You will be fed and hydrated intravenously, the room only contains a toilet and a carpeted floor. Why or why not would you do it?

You will not have access to ANYTHING else.

There are huge health implications for this, you could suffer from mental health and other health issues. I would do this, maybe get some practice first and then do it. The human body is great at adaptation. I think I'd prepare a will handing my $$$ to my fam if I don't make it out in 30 days :afridi

No I wouldn't do it. It'd be traumatising, I couldn't live in the dark for that long. That would seriously affect my mental health, and will probably cause some further mental health problems.

You definitely wont be the same person once you come out, isolation to that extent is torture. Youd probably go crazy and start talking to yourself.

On the other hand, it would be different than a jail prisoner being put into isolation. In this situation it would be voluntary and you have something to look forward to once you get out (being filthy rich). That hope would go a long way in keeping you sane.

For prisoners who are put into isolation against their will lack that hope and that makes the isolation 100 times more mentally traumatizing.

True, there is the idea that you can get out and be filthy rich. But regardless of promised riches, I don't imagine you could keep sane for very long.

This would drive many people mad, and it could extend to well after the time you come out. It's not only that it's pitch dark, but the fact that there will be complete silence, it's sickening to try and imagine that over a long period of time.

I think Its only for mentally strong person. darkness is my ally.
I can do it, its easy peasy.

What makes it worse is you would have no track of time. 30 days could feel like 6 months.

If you turn on the lights I could do it for 60 days

Easy.

Give me the money before I go in. Then, I break the window and run for my life with 1 billion in my pockets.

You could probably have the best naps of all time in there.

30 days is a lot, but it's doable.

You'd likely die during or after the ordeal, the creators of the game are smart enough to know that won't have to giveaway a billion dollars. They wouldn't offer this challenge if they were sure beyond any reason of doubt that would win.

This is not an actual contest.

I couldn't be able to withstand darkness. I could make noise but cant help the darkness. It would drive me mad and i would start seeing things that are not there.

I don't think it would be anywhere as traumatizing as some are making it sound for the following reasons:

1) $1 billion is a lot of money.
2) This is voluntary.
3) You know beforehand how long you will be in there.
4) You will be given proper food and water.
5) You know that your family knows that you are in there.
6) 30 days is not a terribly long time.
7) You have a toilet and a carpet, which means hygiene levels will be decent.
8) Most people are worried about the darkness but the fact that you know everything that is in the room makes it less daunting.
9) If you're like me, you already spend around 6-7 hours (4-5 during exam season) in near-total darkness anyways.
10) This will be the perfect opportunity to heighten your other senses.

I would do it for all the reasons above, provided that this experiment is conducted by trained professionals and they take me out if it does get unbearable.

Why? Is there some sort of evidence that being in total darkness and isolation for 30 days leads to death?

I know Yogis and monks who would smash this challenge.

Have known yogis and monks who even survive with little amount food for much time. Yogis and monks can do meditation for months without opening eyes...

Anyway i can do it.its not that much difficult for me. I will probably sleep 14-15 hours a day and do some excercise ,will do imagination for hours and planning of life that what i would do with billion dollars and then i may be meditate for some time ,and also can have lustful thoughts ,that would help me to get tired all the time......
There are many things to do .

You will not have access to ANYTHING else.

No way, Intravenous hydration long term potentially opens you to alot of infections compared to oral feeding. I would never do that, this is equivalent to killing yourself :))

If you have enough imagination, you can spend your time fantasizing about what you will do with the money. 30 days will go quickly.

When you start to feel and hear every heart beat, every little twitch of your muscles, seconds will feel like years.

You should raise the stakes to maybe 5 years. Then you will get the right results.
99.9 percent will do the 1 month easily for 1 billion
