A British couple could face the death penalty after allegedly attempting to smuggle £2m worth of drugs into the UK.

Mohammed Tahir Ayaz, 26, and his wife Ikra Hussain, 20, of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire have been named by Pakistani authorities after their arrest at an airport.

The couple were planning to fly from Sialkot airport in Pakistan via Dubai to the United Kingdom.

They were arrested as they attempted to board the Emirates Airlines flight on Thursday.

I wonder if Priti Patel will intervene.

They don't look like they are drug dealers. Were they framed?

If they are truly guilty, they deserve harsh punishments.

I expect drug dealers to look ghetto and aggressive.

I must say I am very shocked.

Drug dealers ain't this dumb. They are drug mules desperately trying to cash in a few quick bucks. That poor girl is just 20.

West Yorkshire is always in the news for the wrong reasons. Perhaps they should hire some PR folks.

Both these people live around the corner from me and I feel pretty sorry for them both tbh although I understand those who have no sympathy. The girls only 20 years old! It's not a huge surprise when looking at the drugs problem in the area, I found the lack of trying to conceal the drugs the only shocking thing in all of this.

Both individuals travelled to Pakistan using overseas Pakistani identity identification. Does that impact what the British government can do in this case? Or is it irrelevant anyway?

Don't quote me but I dont think the British Embassy/govt gets involved if the travellers do not get a VISA.

This. The British Consulate can not get involved when someone travels on NICOP because you are effectively a PK national. If they'd invested in a visa, the UK Government would have had no choice but to get involved as they'd be classified as UK nationals.

As for the poster stating they dont look like drug dealers, these guys would be low level mules. All the risk for very little money. I have an office in Huddersfield, and its fast becoming the H capital of the UK. And unfortunately largely controlled by British Pakistanis. Naam roshan karo.

Sad state of the affairs.

All wrath of the law and peoples angers are always towards drug mules.

The actual people who profit from this, (and from weapons dealing etc), will never face anything

If you are a dual citizen then yes it impacts what help the Brits give you.

As a dual national you cannot get diplomatic help from the British government when you are in the other country where you hold citizenship.

For example, if you hold both British and Chinese citizenship you cannot get diplomatic help from the UK when you’re in China.

The drug dealers look normal, it's the druggies that look abnormal. I have a drug dealer in my class and you wouldn't be able to tell he is one.

£2m worth of drugs into the UK?

There is no death penalty in the UK.

That's the intention of the headline to get readers to think like that.

TBH if proven guilty they deserve the punishment they are owed.

I remember some Australian drug smugglers got executed in Indonesia and how their case was publiciszed.

Ha these two are diots.

It shouldnt matter the girl was married and is an adult. She made the choice to be invovled for some quick cash.

These two are some dumb low level mules.
