Yes, he is past his prime and yes he is struggling. I have been supporting him all these years. Maybe he needs to retire after this Test series.

But that doesn't erase what he has achieved throughout his career. He has been a wonderful servant for Pakistan cricket and has contributed a hell lot for his team. You can dislike him for his current form, but you can never dismiss what he has so far done for Pakistan cricket.

So please, cut down the disrespect shown towards him. Respect him for all that he has done for his team, rather than disrespect him for a few failures towards the fag end of his career.
 
It makes me sick to see all the disrespect shown towards him. It's as if all his contributions towards his team in the past has been forgotten.

BTW, yea he needs to retire after this ongoing Test series.
 
He is a avg player of fast bowling on wickets that have even an iota of pace or bounce.What we are seeing is his actual ability againist fast bowling.So if someone calls him out for that it isnt any disrespect its the truth.

Secondly his tantrum throwing and blackmails make it hard to respect him.
 
Definitely a Pakistani great, but he isn't an all time great.

You are not gettng the point.He is being called out because he is a avg player of fast bowling.That has been hidden becuse he hasnt played much outside Asia.This has nothing to do with the stage of his career.

No one denies he is a Pakistani Great.
 
Yeah they don't. He is the greatest Flat Track Bully in Pakistan's history and that is no small achievement. Runs don't come free on flat decks, you have to earn them.
 
There is no room for fag ends in a proessional cricketers career, you're either good enough to merit your place or you retire / get dropped
 
I agree he needs to retire. But my point is that he has done a lot of good for his team in the past. He deserves respect.

The joke is on me? I'm speaking of the highest Test run scorer and the highest century scorer for Pakistan in Test cricket history. I've already mentioned that he is embarrassing himself and his fans like me, and that he needs to retire. Yes, he is struggling currently. But how does that erase all that he has contributed in the past?

Is it really that difficult to understand that he is a avg player of fast bowling and always was,thats why people are calling him out.Its not disrespect.Its fair criticism.

Fine, but being so doesn't diminish the fact that he is the highest Test run scorer for Pak and the highest Test centurion for them as well.

Doesn't he deserve respect for it?

Yonis is a Pakistani great, I don't think anyone without bias would put him alongside likes of Lara, SRT, Ponting. He's a level below RD/Sanga and alike.

You serious?? How many batsmen that pak produced have gone past 8K runs, forget 9K or 10K. Before 2005 we had just miandad above 8000. That shows you the level of all those pundits/80's ex-players you like to listen to on TV these days.

It is high time us fans & our pundits stop pretending that Pak have had bats like tendulkar ponting lara in the previous generation. We have always struggled outside asia.

Even in the 1990's our lineup would crash. Only saving grace was that we had wasim waqar to revenge the loss later on.Upon which we would forget the embarassing display & pretend we had bradmans amongst our team.

Check the 1995 tour & 1999 tour. Not even gonna mention the 2002 series where these so called legends who talk about fearless cricket & jazba on television bundled out for 100 runs in two innings.

As for the flat track bully labelling, Even inzy & Yousuf will fail on that metric.Inzi is my favourite batsmen but tell me when did he conquer the aussies or the saffers? Same goes for Yousuf. One 2006 Eng series doesn't pardon him for his shortcomings.

Only Miandad & Saeed anwar are Pak batsmen who adapted to foreign pitches & even they had issues with strong attacks.
 
From now with the current form he needs some serious time to get that 10k benchmark

But it's better if he steps back before killing the reputation which is drastically decreasing recently

Weight of runs is certainly no yardstick to judge the best batsman as demonstrated by england's current captain

After this series, the PCB should organize a two test series in Pakistan and label it "The Younis Khan Tribute Cup". Allow him to get to 10,000 runs and 35 hundreds in front of his friends and family and then call it a day. Perfect farewell. Actually, Misbah should also be featured on the trophy and should call it a day after winning it as well.

Inzamam should also play in that series so that he can hit a four and overtake Miandad.

Younis is Batman. Right now, he's had his back broken but he's going to make a comeback, prove everyone wrong, save the day and then give his blessing to Haris Sohail.

Why? He can carry on scoring hundreds on Asian dustbowls until he's 50.

But he's never going to score runs in Australia. Well maybe once Pakistan are 2-0 down and they are playing a dead rubber.
 
I will not blame younis khan, selector should do the job, how Vvs, Dravid and Ganguly was told , that they should announce retirement or they will be dropped, same way Sachin was given hint about his odi career
 
I think it isn't disrespect when people want him kicked out of the team. Tbh, I had similar feelings for Dravid and Ganguly when they started becoming a burden on our Test team.
 
Younis Khan might have better numbers than Miandad, Inzamam, Yousaf, Zaheer Abbass but everyone knows his batting for what it is, he is an over achiever and someone who lucked out massively because Pakistan since 2009 has played most of its Cricket in UAE and Sub continent. Everyone knows he in terms of batting quality is no where near the likes of Miandad, Inzamam, Yousaf, Zaheer e.t.c.
 
I recall vaguely that during the time of Inzi's last few innings, YK gave a taunting statement about Inzi to one urdu newspaper.
(and yes, YK can be very acerbic).

and now looking how YK was dropped from LOI (and there is a chance that he will be asked to retire after this series) ... He has totally spoiled his legacy :obama:

Last time PAK won a test in AUS was 21 years ago. Unrealistic expectation from YK.

Dravid, to be fair, didn't hang around too long. He was outstanding in the tour of England in 2011 but looked out of sorts in Australia. To his credit, he retired immediately when he knew he had lost it. Ganguly, VVS and Tendulkar probably hung around far more than they should have.
 
If Younis fails to perform in the 2nd test as well, then he should really retire before the 3rd test.

Here is my final assessment of him

Biggest FTB, Pakistan ever produced

Contributed in far more losses than wins for Pakistan team.

Most overrated batsman around 10 K club.

Most selfish player in the team at the moment, he knew his time was up years ago, still managed to stay in the team, refused to retire and blocking one youngster to take his position.

I'm afraid his exit from the team will not be pretty.

What a rubbish post. Younis has same number of centuries as Inzamam in matches Pakistan won. Check his average in matches Pakistan has won.

How many more matches we need to lose before we stop saying "one more, one last one for him" He should be dropped from next test, nothing more disgraceful than keep losing.

That's a valid point but saying that Younis contributed in far more losses than wins for Pakistan team is wrong. In fact, most of the wins in the past decade have come due to his batting.
 
Mohammad Yousuf, a far far better allround batsman than YK was rightly dropped at age 36 for not contributing to the team much, why can;t Younis be dropped at age 43 and non stop failure and contributing to team loss one after an other, its getting ridiculous now .

Yousaf was criminally wasted. The likes of Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq and many others would have learn't more playing along side him

You had a feeling for Dravid when after one tour?Bro Dravid didn't let anyone have that feeling about him except one tour after which he himself retired.

Dravid's performance in his last English tour was amazing scored across innings and pitches.
 
Younis can still come good in flat pitches but the bounce has become an issue,if he gets to play in daylight in Adelaide I think he will get a 50 atleast.

Dravid's exit was much graceful, which he deserved, YK also deserved a respectful exit but he is making a mess of it. Selectors just enjoying this humiliation of his.

True he deserves it but selectors can't drop him because YK is a big player in tests and also his 4th inning English heroic have made things difficult,so he needs to speak about his future with the selectors and PCB.

"That 4th inning" turning out to be a curse for Pakistan cricket, Younis Khan cannot be dropped by spineless selectors after "that 4th inning" and he is costing us match after match and series after series. If players like Ponting and Kallis can dropped by a respectful way by the selectors, YK is no match to them.
 
We have to cut thin some slack. He is fighting a lot of things to make a contribution. hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. I usually avoid pp when we have good or bad days. The crowing and the wailing is unbearable
 
Younis is a player that must be examined closely when assessing his career.

Despite his record and statistics, I can't help but feel conflicted from following his career. Did he overachieve or underachieve? Did he or did he not do justice to his talent?

Younis Khan is a curious case in my opinion. His many magnificent single, double and triple centuries in test match cricket are surrounded by acres of mind numbing mediocrity. His many classy, sensible and match-winning contributions in ODI and T20 cricket are shrouded by so many soft dismissals - many of which were crucial.

He's consistently inconsistent. When he does get it right, he reminds the cricketing world of his prowess. The way he could get 50-60 on the board in white ball cricket, rotating the strike without anyone really noticing. I think that's one of the unique things I'll remember about him as a batsman. We just all wished his top form ability would have been displayed more frequently and that he wasn't a complete shell of himself so many other times.

Seeing how foreign players have also struggled in Asia, this point is null and void. YK's 267 at Bangalore for instance likely remains of the best knocks ever from a non-Indian player on Indian soil. His 177* in a record chase against SL in SL also is up there.

I don't see anyone calling out Ponting for never having scored a ton in India for instance and diminishing his achievements.

India and SL belong to Asia.

Ponting has struggled in India but did really well vs Murali in SL and in Pak. Hence, he cant be termed as a failure there.

Kallis, Amla, Cook, AB, KP, Hayden all have done well in Asia. So, its not that non-Asians struggle in Asia.

And Ponting solo failure in India has gone against him or else he was as good as Sachin or Lara.
 
Younis today's knock testifies his grittiness and ability to survive tough conditions.

However, it should be understandable to everyone that his game isn't left anymore for non Asian conditions.

If some other XYZ player would have scored 65 today, it would have been rated as just "a decent inning made on flat deck with the chips down".Same will be applied to YK too.

His knock today won't be enough to give him green signal for this series.

Flat track? This pitch is anything but flat. There is enough pace and bounce here to make any good bowler jump with joy, not to mention that the pink ball, overhead conditions and batting under lights has all made batting even harder.
 
Shame about the silly dismissal but good fifty from him, gives his confidence for the next two matches.

Its not completely flat pitch but the conditions are good for batting and Younis usual hoping doesn't means the pitch is really tough to bat on. If a batsmen could survive the initial phase he would find things easier. Younis didn't scored a single run in lights .So not sure why is that point brought here.
 
It wasn't a big innings, but a very good innings for someone who was struggling. That that haters!
 
Give him batting friendly conditions and he will score, always.

No wonder he is the biggest FTB Pakistan has ever produced, which is also commendable, as Mamoon said, even on flat wickets runs don;t come free.

Conditions were bowler friendly in New Zealand and in first inning of current test and we know how YK performed.

This is the way he has manged to prolong his career, being a UAE King, now again we will be stuck with him for many more tests.

UAE Khan averaged almost 50 in England and 50+ in India and SL. I guess they are also part of UAE.
 
But that is how most people will remember him now.

Very unfortunate, but that's what happens when you do not retire on time.
 
Respectable effort, but that was a shocking dismissal. Continues to make life difficult for his faithfuls with each passing match/series outside the UAE.
 
Alright, I created this thread, and I'm gonna say this now. Younis Khan has been a wonderful servant for Pak cricket. Both him and Misbah have done a lot of wonders for their team.

Time for both of them to retire gracefully.

Looking at the scorecard I could see only two players playing with positive intent in second innings. Younis and Sarfraz.

And overall only 3 batsman in 2nd innings showed any fight ie Azhar, Younis & Sarfraz.


None of them were good enough given the team situation.


All the batting lineup 1 to 11 failed in 2nd innings but only two players showed intent.


You are neither AB nor Faf to block and draw. Exceptions/outliers.

Play each ball with the intent of scoring than you can survive and draw the match. Sami's dismissal set the tone. He lost his wicket because he had no intent to score and when a ball jagged back he was too late to decide to play it hence the half push cost him his wicket.
