Salman Butt speaking on TV

"It all depends on how you think you have become a star"

"If you are a performing player then you are a genuine star"

"You have some people thinking that they are stars based upon social media followers, ads and which dress designer you associated"

"You have some people thinking that they are stars based upon social media followers, ads and which dress designer you associate with"

"Stars are those whose stats tell you everything such as how in difficult conditions he has won the match for the team"

"Your social media following does not make you a star"

"What you are wearing, who you are meeting etc does not make you a star"

"If you look at the previous generation of players, you will find that they are true stars because they have fans amongst the young people and the elderly as well"

"Contrast that with todays players and you will see that the older generation doesnt know you"

"Even today, you ask some people and they will say best 'keeper was Wasim Bari or they will talk about Wasim and Waqar or Azhar Mahmood"

"To be a star you need to have an appeal for 3 generations"

"When SRT retired, kids were crying, elderly were crying and people of his own age were sad too"

"Unfortunately, some have come to the conclusion that the only way to be remembered is via media and thats it"

Hahaha

I wonder who he's taking shots at here...

Otherwise a meaningless statement by a meaningless player

Salman Butt had it all, remember the first time he gave an interview after a century in his first game against India, a one off match at Eden Gardens.

His English speaking and good looks sparked him to instant stardom, was even invited to meet George Bush accompanying Inzi.

Salman Butt of now is only a bitter old man, bitterness for probably letting all of it go. But he had it all, and he cashed it in when he had the chance, he rode the waves, the perks when it was his time in the sun. Alas he didn't have to throw it away but he did. The captaincy, the star that he wore on his shirt.

The only star that matters, and is loved is the guy who respects the 'star', plays for the 'star'.

However I only don't hold him responsible for this, I hold all 3 equally responsible for what happened.

Very well said!

He has a point.

Some Pak players think they are superstars even though they have done nothing major in international cricket.

One thing for sure is that Shoaib Malik is the most popular player on Social Media, probably the most aesthetically unpleasing superstar in Pakistan's history

fan following makes you a star.

SOcial media following represents your fan following.

DOnt know what he is on about

Fixing makes you a star mate.

In 30-40 years, most of the players having a decent career will be forgotten. But a fixer will be remembered for the rest of his life whether he was a decent player or a failure. Butt is a star and will remain one for the rest of his life.

Re his comments; well most of the Pakistani players are pretty unprofessional. These guys still act as if they're representing their gully mohalla team.

i don't think thats a trait limited to Pakistani cricketers. That's human nature in general and Butt himself is guilt of the same- how many times has he given interviews asking why he wasn't selected even thou he hasn't done anything to warrant selection

in his international cricket days, he was an extremely mediocre batsmen who was propelled to captaincy because of his english/education, his looks and a few adds

Same goes for himself.
He better stay quite on such topics.

I think he is entitled to his opinion.

I think what he's doing is having a dig at some of the players who think they are world-beaters just because they have a lot of followers on social media.
