Your views on PSL teams being forced to release players every season?

You look at other sports leagues and you see how teams build their dynasty by making a team of same players that last 10 to 15 years. Be it premier peague or NHL.

Than we have PSL where evry season, teams are required to release their players because PCB wants new faces in teams...

Now with 2 new franchises coming in, Imad revealed that Psl managment might only allow 3 players to be retained while franchises are fighting for 5.

So with this releasing of players every season, doesnt it effect the branding of the frnachise and league itself?

I think it’s a good idea limiting it to 3. Even 2 would be fine. It makes the league more exciting with teams having to build a team.

I think it’s been a problem in many PSLs where teams have continuously been bad because they can not improve their squad because the best players are retained by other squads. Karachi definitely had this issue.

I think actually centering franchises around one or two players who are retained makes branding stronger.

I think it a move like this would increase entertainment and excitement of the league, as well as more attention in the auction stage creating hype for the tournament. I think it will also improve competitiveness between franchises. And players will learn to play on different teams and hopefully become more well rounded players as a result with a greater motive to keep their game and fitness at their best in order to keep attracting other teams attention.

Nothing wrong here IMO... I think it makes the things even for every team to build a team that they would think is the eight one from scratch. Not releasing players is gonna mke things kind of boring and same.

This is the reason T20 leagues are still not taken seriously.

Teams like Mumbai, Chennai have earned some reputation over the years for keeping their core intact for years. Rest are all non serious opportunistic franchises.

Firstly your example of other teams is flawed because they have long term years contract and even then every new season they have to release few players.

Now this is because performers get upgrades in their categories for next season.

Hassan Nawaz will be in Diamond category next season. Quetta can't keep him in lower categories. That's why they will need to release some players.

Otherwise bring Auction system. But even then Auction will be capped. A single team won't be able to retain 6-7 of their players who may demand $200-300K or more.

Nonetheless I still want an Auction system in place. To know the true worth of a player in teams eyes.

You are correct. Franchises need to keep a core of the team, thats the way you build brand identity and fan loyalty. Right now it is just players randomly popping up on franchise to franchise. It will be difficult of course to peg international players to teams but they should certainly ensure that Pakistani players are identified with certain sides.

if you are going to change the players because it becomes boring, then go all the whole way and just change the team name too then and make it even more unpredictable.

There are other ways to improve the squad, such as scouting emerging players and really investing in Player development progs.

Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United are the two best managed franchises in the competitions. All the players are lining up to play for these franchises because of the culture these teams have cultivated and the amount of support they provide to the players. Even the notoriously difficult to manage Shakib after his stint with Lahore Qalandars commented that LQ was the best franchise environment he ever experienced and he wishes BPL franchises would follow their footsteps.

What are the salaries actually for the players in PSL?

It is an issue. Maybe atleast let teams keep their own finds. For example lahore will be forced to release naeem or haris or salman mirza but these players are their own products.
Maybe let team have players for 5 years if they want.
3 is too less of a number.
Dont force teams to change the core
If quality is an issue let franchises bring their marquee players outside of the auction.
Let them bring players at whatever price they are willing to pay. In this way maybe we ll see better players play for them as its literally half the length as compared to ipl. Harry brook is banned try to bring him in.
