A somewhat remarkable PSL 8 has given the right impetus to Zaman as he starts his international career in the first T20I against Afghanistan

Zaman Khan in PSL 8 was outstanding with the new and old ball in the Powerplay and death overs and he is expected to execute the same role in Pakistan colours on Friday. He moves the ball in the air at the start of the innings and keep the batters guessing in death with his wily variations.

He defended 13 off the last over to help Lahore Qalandars to their second straight HBL PSL title and took 15 wickets at 23.60 runs per dismissal and an economy of 8.53 in the recent season. “It was my goal to play for my country and I am about to achieve it,” Zaman, who hails from Mirpur, said. “I am very excited and will give my best for my team. I have had a good HBL PSL 8 and that will definitely help me a great deal over here.

“The presence of Umer [Gul, bowling coach] bhai has helped me immensely. We discussed how every pitch is different and spoke in detail, about the behaviour of Sharjah wicket. He told me that hitting the hard length will be helpful. I will definitely keep that in mind.”

Looking forward to seeing how he gets on

Why was he asked to bowl with the new ball? Is that his forte?

He did his best in the 2nd T20I and understandably disappointed

Zaman has a very good slower one up in his arsenal. He needs to be persisted with as he has all the ingredients to be a good LOI bowler.

I am not impressed by this guy, very short and can’t swing an inch all he relies is on mixing slower balls with pacier ones , don’t think he will last in International cricket with this lack of variation and skill

Impressed by him. Although I do not see how he can get a batter out in the PP. He does not get hit but doesn't really move the ball or ball attacking lengths. Very Very good death bowler would keep him at the back end.

Zaman Khan speaking to the media

“I’ve followed and watched Sri Lankan legend Lastith Malinga, because my action is similar to his, and I have learned a lot by observing him"

“My aim is to perform well for Pakistan for as long as I play and make the country proud. Whenever I get the opportunity, I will try to give my 100 per cent and win the match for Pakistan"

"Since last year, I have been with Shaheen Afridi at Lahore Qalandars, who has been guiding me on everything and since I came under his wings, I have learned a lot."

Hope he does well in the NZ series, he can equally be competing with Naseem, Rauf, Ihsanullah, Wasim Jr for white-ball spots in the future

Looks like an honest trier - the Aaqib Javed kind - but not the one that who can win matches on his own. Needs to improve on his pace for sure.

Good speeds from Zaman in the 1st T20I vs New Zealand - 140.4kph

Good ball and good review as well! Zaman has his first wicket of the series.

Zaman Khan has only picked 2 wickets in his last 9 games against domestic teams. I find it to be mind boggling that he's been selected based on his recent performances especially given the so-called fast bowling "riches" of Pakistan. If someone isn't getting domestic batsmen out then how do you expect him to perform on the international level. Even his PSL stats are not impressive.

Selectors have got some serious explanation to do. What do you guys think about this and what other options does Pakistan have?

You were right.

He bowled with the new ball and I didn't see the ball swing at all. And that's in a tournament where the Kookaburra has swung early on.

He looked every bit a T20 specialist.

Strictly t20 material , should had tried Arshad Iqbal instead of him , Arshad is a proper new ball bowler who can swing it both ways with good pace

Well he is the last over specialist - should be bowling.

Not sure why it took so long to bring Zaman Khan on during the last few overs ?

I think Zaman showed his worth tonight. Quality bowling at the death and under tremendous pressure in his ODI debut. Can you imagine Rauf and Zaman bowling at the death for us. Most good teams would struggle

T20 material only. You need proper bowlers from FC for ODI cricket these days. These new Kookaburras do a bit in the first 10 overs and we needed a proper new ball bowler like Arshad Iqbal here. In what world is Zaman Khan a replacement for Naseem. No one in the current pool is but at least Arshad would've given you some threat with the new ball.

He is a good bowler to have on the sub's bench. Not a starter yet with Rauf, Naseem and Shaheen all rightfully in line before him.

He was ok. He actually adds something different to our attack of Haris, Shaheen, Naseem that guys like Wasim or Faheem don't. If he could bat, maybe we'd use him as the pace allrounder. Then again the pace allrounders don't really bat either. But looking at this guys domestic stats he seems like an actual no.11. If he could improve his batting he could really be useful.

But I don't mind him on the bench. I assume Haris Rauf will get injured from time to time, and him coming in for Haris ain't too bad.

I was surprised he was only given a 2 over spell today against Sri Lanka at the end when that period is where he is most comfortable and effective.

He is good in the death overs but toothless with new ball and also not good enough to bowl in the middle overs when batsmen are looking to milk runs , you can’t have him in the playing XI for his specialized death over role only

yeah he is only good for T20s i dont see any specific reason to add him in ODIs, he never gets any seam movemant neither any swing in the initial overs so only because of his death bowling capabilities we cant keep him in 11.

I agree good for t20 but not odi

He is fine for t20.
He isnt ready for odi. His list A stats aren't impressive either.

His body doesn't seem to be able to handle the workload of odi.

Give it time.

He did the best he could today. If he's in ODI plans for the future, simply put he needs to play more List A games to get a better feel in the 50-over world. Right now, he's only t20 material.

Zaman Khan is good, he'll come good eventually, he was doing well on a flat pitch.

Ihsanullah is the peak option however. A pacer who bowls at 150kph and at awkward line and lengths for the batsmen, along with haris Rauf who's one of the most intelligent bowlers I have ever seen, with shaheen 's inswing and naseem's Glenn mcgrath Level line and length

Babar Azam in his post game presser praising Zaman Khan:

"He showed great character and has also done well in the past where two times in the PSL finals he has bowled in the last over so he had a lot of confidence in him for this task but bowling in international games is a different thing"

Shoaib Akhtar regarding Zaman Khan:

"You've seen the match. Pakistan is out of the tournament. The match that was made in favor of Pakistan, it was all done by Zaman Khan. Whatever chances Pakistan had of winning the match were all because of him. Shaheen Afridi also got a few wickets, but credit goes to Zaman. He bowled really well,"

Would you have liked Zaman to pull out a mankad here?

Overstatement here but Zaman did ok. He bowled fast and more accurate than usual.

I watched him live in a few Hundred games and he sprayed it everywhere, no idea why Buttler persisted with him lol But he was good here and is probably a solid back up along side Dhahani.

I'm more worried by Wasim Jr being given just 3 overs while he has about 15 ODI games under his belt and averages about 25.

Zaman Khan part of the travelling reserves for the ICC World cup squad

Pity he's not in the squad.
Quality bowler at the death which I think we lack.

In his short international career, he hasn't performed badly but he should have played more List A games before playing the ODI cricket. So far, he has only played 8 List A matches in which he has taken 6 wickets with an average of 62.

i dont know why Zaman Khan is in the reserves and flying hairs beauty Mohammad Waseem is in the squad.

Zaman should be included in the playing XI along with Shaheen and Haris because he can bowl effectively in the death overs.

Well zaman unfortunately doesn't lick babar's boots on twitter like hasan Ali does.

Hopefully he will given games in that NZ tour and no dosti yaari chumi muk muka will be proffered, I believe he is a better bowler than Haris spank Me Rauf

Does the team mgmt. Know that Zaman is also in squad, why is he not getting chances

Zaman Khan is quite an exciting cricketer.
Don't think he should open the bowling - should have the role of a finisher, similar to Umar Gul.
He's performed decently well this PSL and think he deserves a place in the T20 WC squad but only if he's used as a finisher.

Due to poor performance against New Zealand, Zaman Khan has been dropped form the 18-member squad Announced for series against England and Ireland.

I guess he exclusion was pretty much on cards, but do you think he should have been given another run?

That's its case of most Pakistan cricketers, picked on some performance gets some games gets a dip in form ousted and left in obscurity.

The guy played BBL surely he must have something to impress the Aussies who were spending $$$$ on him.

What's the role of NCA in Lahore , what are the dummy selectors doing ain't there any tracking program.

As if there is some.lottery or lucky draw system in PCB and some players are picked for couple.of tours and then left out to make way for others
