Fakhar Zaman, the hero of the Champions Trophy final against India, revealed that he loved going after Ravichandran Ashwin during his outing at The Oval.

Fakhar received a hero’s welcome on his return to hometown and talked to media at his residence.

“I loved smashing Ashwin because he is one of the best bowlers of his country, in fact he has been one of the top bowlers of the world. I really enjoyed scoring boundaries against him,” he replied to a question regarding which bowler he loved hammering. “You always enjoy scoring against quality bowlers,” he added.

The aggressive opener also talked about his lucky escape in the final, where he edged one off Jasprit Bumrah to MS Dhoni behind the stumps when he was just on three runs, but it turned out to be a no-ball.

“It was my dream to score a century in the final, when I edged it and started walking off the field, I was shattered, I cannot explain how I felt at that moment” Fakhar told. “When umpire asked me to stop for checking no-ball, I saw a glimpse of hope and prayed for an illegal delivery, it turned out like that, then I tried and GOD helped me,” he added.

He also shared that after the humiliating defeat against India, the coach and captain told that they have to change their style of play to proceed in the tournament and it worked.

Ahead of the big clash against India, the team was thinking of winning the trophy as an Eid gift for the nation.

“We were thinking one day before the final that we have to give this win as an Eid gift to the nation,” he shared. “This is an Eid gift for the people and there cannot be a better gift,” he added.

“I realized it seeing the excitement among Pakistanis in UK that how big this victory was and seeing people gathered here, I am sure fans are overjoyed,” he told.

Fakhar Zaman further told that he was in contact with his parents while on the tour and his mother advised him to not play lofted shots.

“I used to talk to my parents before every match, my mother specially advised me to play grounded shots only, do not play lofted shots,” he shared with a laughter.

Good on you Fakhar, hopefully you can smash him out of the Indian team too in future. Complete load on the team to be honest. :afridi

Glad Zaman's mom didn't say beta slog mat karna.

On a side note looks like a happy chap, nice to see him enjoying his cricket.

That's the attitude to have. Go against the best if the best and don't let their stature frighten you.

LOL mom being mom. Always overprotective and cautious.

Ashwin is not great LOI bowler to brag about, well played in Final. Luck favored brave, instead of 3 got 100 +, kudos to him for making India pay for the indiscipline.

Wrong to play two spinners by ind and pak on flat decks jadeja ashwin gone for 137 runs & shadab tonked by Hardik

Ashwin sometimes thinks he's too clever and over analyses his LOI game. He's also quite stubborn and doesn't seem willing to bowl attacking, like he successfully does in Test cricket. To a certain extent he may have picked up this habit from years of Dhoni using him in powerplay situations and as an opening bowler in the IPL. But someone who's intelligent like him should by now have worked out his LOI game.

You could see how he seemed obsessed with Fakhar stepping down to him and was firing it wide on either side. Zaman to his credit did step out occasionally and connected well some of those wide deliveries. So yeah, he earned the bragging rights for this game.
