Speaking in an interview:

“I still believe the PSL should have its own set-up, its own chairman, who could run it. And if it is not separate so at least its working style should be completely different,”

“If our TV rights are sold, how are they are sold? Secondly we go to sleep for a year. Eleven months are barren; there are no activities. It’s a big science which has developed everywhere and especially in the IPL. We wanted to replicate that if not at that scale but at a small scale."

“There are several things which can be corrected. I pray whoever comes as new PCB chairman should bring in a policy that could work for 25 years. I pray for the betterment of Pakistan’s cricket and the people who are in the Board should be for long term which could help Pakistan cricket."

“The big issue in Pakistan is that there is no continuation of policies. The PSL is our big brand and we are fighting about how to take forward such a big brand."

“There should be a written document which should state how we can take PSL forward. We have invested a lot and still we are in wilderness.

“Once the broadcast rights are sold and the tournament is over, there is no activity in PSL. In Quetta we can play in summer and there should be a T20 in Quetta. All six franchises are ready to play there."

“It will help you get a new window and build the excitement. This will also give our sponsors more incentives. This will not dilute the brand, but it’s important as you can also engage sponsors for longer times."

“As far as PCB Board of Governors is concerned so yes it becomes a bit unfair when there is no representation of big cities like Karachi and Lahore and according to the overall rotation policy Karachi and Lahore are waiting for their turns. But you know vital decisions are taken at the platform like who will become as PCB chairman and other policy decisions so big cities should have their input in them."

Well what exactly is the PSL suppose to do in off season?

The off season branding should be done by the franchise not by the PSL management.

Nadeem Omar loves to talk, but few weeks ago he was critical of Lahore Qalanders doing player development program and gave an excuse that franchises purpose is not that( this was to justify why his franchise failed to get balochi players).

LQ does alot of off season work. PZ keeps doing its branding work. Maybe Quetta should start doing some of it aswell

Sindh Premier League is currently underway in Karachi, with several PCB centrally contracted players including Iftikhar Ahmed, Salman Ali Agha, Shahnawaz Dahani and Tayyab Tahir are participating.

Interestingly, the board itself had previously prohibited its contracted players from participating in such leagues. This issue came to light a few years ago when Wasim Khan was the CEO. On July 7, 2021, he had confirmed to PSL franchises via email that no contracted player would participate in such leagues.

When PSL teams expressed concerns about the centrally contracted players participating in SPL, then on October 6, 2023, league commissioner Naila Bhatti informed via email that the management committee had decided that no centrally contracted player would participate in the Sindh league. Players engaged in domestic cricket or PCB duties will also not be available for the event as well.

Additionally, no franchise can use half a name resembling a PSL team's name. The board will keep an eye on anti-corruption matters, and event timing will also be considered.

However, many claims remain unfulfilled, as several centrally contracted players are still participating in the Sindh Premier League. Due to this, the board has also postponed the final of its departmental first-class President Trophy tournament. Now, the election day has been announced for the final, but it will also need to be changed.

I am sure the Franchises wouldn't mind spending more in the off season if the leagues financials were solid and if the Pakistani Cricket economy could support such spending. The reality is our cricket economy sucks badly and is a reflection of the overall state of the Pakistani economy.

IPL Franchises can comfortably afford to operate 365 days a year because there are billions $ involved and the owners have deep pockets to sustain losses if necessary.

A full time PSL chairman is not a bad idea.

Someone who can liase with other boards to identify windows/talents, work with player agents to identify top talent and how to bring them to the league and also work alongside the PCB.

Quetta is the worst run franchise sticking with a useless captain in Sarfraz and doing literally nothing for player development in Balochistan. What is PSL supposed to do in off-season anyway?

Agreed, what has he done for Quetta and local development? He couldnt get the karachi franchise and so just put all his local boys in the Quetta team. Never heard of them doing anything substantial in Balochistan to improve cricket there and develop atleast ONE local player. Makes Lahores efforts even more commendable. QG and KK seem to be the worst run franchises.

He had the gul to bash islamabad

It is not the job of PCB to keep these franchises activated throughout the year. PSL is their job and they do it, rest of the activities should be performed by the respective franchises. Have some competition arranged, and have trials to find talent.
