“There are players who don't want to talk to each other": Wasim Akram alleges issues within the Pakistan side

In a couple of months that new lot will become and tried and tested as well, would you chip them again? Replacing an entire lot has never worked before and will never work now. Pakistan has tried this experiment many times and result has been a failure every time! The process should always be gradual! Right now replace Chacha, Imad, Shadab and Azam. Saim and UK should be sent to a high performance camp.

This is Cricket, if you don't perform for a while, you get dropped and go back to domestic cricket, academy to iron out your flaws, weaknesses and prove yourself again. Right now the vast majority of the players playing in the team deserve the axe and their NOC's scrapped.

New lot if always good for a bit though, then success gets to them.

New lot as in when PCT did well in 2017 CT, 2021 T20 wc..
2017 CT was a combination. 7/11 were senior players. You need a combination. Combination works the best. 2021 team had been playing together for a while back then.

I agree but the handle of the team is given to new lot.

I recall Afridi (before) and Shehzad being booted in 2017 final.
2021 as well many new faces.

By all means individual and or a small groups can be replaced but dropping 7-8 players would be a disaster and nothing good will come out of it. Saim, Azam Khan and Usman Khan were our top players in PSL, and look at them at international stage. These three looked totally out of depth in international cricket.

Need to get Rid of the rizwan babar clan first
They have had the longest run in the history of pakistan cricket. In 5 years they have produced 0 results and have developed 0 players

These are the PSL captains, they are gatekeeping their spots and the others in the team and decide who gets gets the limelight and who doesn't. Need to dismantle this mafia.

if we start replacing players based upon the trophies they won then Pakistan would be chopping players every two-three years. In any case we played semifinals and finals under Babar and Rizwan so they haven’t done that bad. Need to get rid of deadweights like Azam Khan, Iftikhar, Shadab and other over the hill players.

'Three groups in the team; Afridi unhappy, Rizwan unhappy, Babar unable to unite players': Pakistan's recipe for World Cup disaster

Pakistan's shock early exit from the ongoing 2024 ICC T20 World Cup is being attributed to internal team "groupings" and the underperformance of senior players. This situation may prompt significant changes not only within the team but also in the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Sources from the PCB reveal that a major challenge for Babar Azam upon his return as captain was to unify the team, but he struggled due to these internal divisions.

haheen Shah Afridi was reportedly unhappy about losing the captaincy and felt unsupported by Babar, while Muhammad Rizwan was dissatisfied about not being considered for the captaincy.

"There are three groups in the team, one led by Babar Azam, the second one by Shaheen Shah Afridi, and the third one by Muhammad Rizwan. Add to this mix the return of seniors like Muhammad Aamir and Imad Wasim and the recipe was ready for a World Cup disaster," a source close to the team told PTI.

The source continued, "The return of Imad and Amir added to the confusion as it was difficult for Babar to get any worthwhile performances from both of them as they had not played top-level domestic or international cricket for a long while now except in franchise-based leagues."

"There were even instances where some players were not talking to each other and a few of them even tried to appease all the group leaders in the team," added the source.

A senior PCB official mentioned that chairman Mohsin Naqvi was aware of the team's problems even before the World Cup, as he had been briefed by national selector and senior manager, Wahab Riaz.

"Naqvi held two meetings with all the players in private and gave them pep talks asking them to put their issues aside and focus on winning the World Cup and he would remove all misgivings in the team later on but apparently things didn't work out."

"I am not defending Babar but what is a captain supposed to do when your premier bowler can't even defend 15 runs in the final over against a weak USA side and concedes a boundary and six on full tosses. Or when an all-rounder brought out of retirement to help win the World Cup sits out with fitness issues," the source added.

Naqvi has suggested that he may make changes to the national team, but sources indicate that there will also be changes within the cricket board itself."The chairman obviously is going to clean up things in the team but already he has started a process of performance-related appraisals of senior and mid-level employees in the board," the source claimed.

"You will see major changes in the team and at management level in the board now," he said.

"Naqvi is himself facing problems as he is not the ruling government's choice to head the board. He is also now facing criticism for the World Cup debacle and there are calls for his head as well," said another PCB source to PTI.

Wahab Riaz, Mohd Yousaf, Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq were part of the selection committee who recommended to Naqvi to have Shaheen replaced by Babar. Why? Because they were following orders from Javed Afridi?

These people need to be held accountable

The difference this time is the new players will know the slap is there. Someone has to be made an example of this time. Shaheed Afridis arguement that not better players available is the same that’s always used.
Emotional blackmail. Too bad this time. Fans have had enough.

If Pakistan have to do their time in the wilderness to recover then so be it.

The whole culture has to change and the results will take time. But now is the time to grasp that nettle.

Azam Khan. Seriously? You don’t see that he has problems?? Cricket is a professional sport. If you want to beat the top teams you have to do what they do at the very least. To compete.
Not be obese. Not forgo fitness and diet. Not ignore training. Not bully team mates. Not ignore coaching and training staff. It’s A TEAM GAME.

i think you misunderstood. I’m saying Azam Khan was one of the best batsman of the PSL but he has been awful in international cricket. That’s the kind of talent we possess at domestic where people like Azam Khan are standouts. He should definitely be replaced but I’m against replacing the whole team. I believe Azam Khan, Usman Khan, Shadab, Iftikhar and Imad Wasim should be dropped. Rizwan should be rested for a few series.

Azam Khan offers nothing. Set yourself standards and stick to them. He fails on fitness. That’s a basic. He then becomes a liability and breaks down team cohesion. Never mind if he’s Don Bradman. Which he isn’t. Get the basics right. Fitness, running between wickets, fielding, all can be improved with application.

If anyone can name some decent replacements, I am on board. The freezing in the headlights act has gone on for too long. But each time we have a clear out, we end up worse and all those cleared out are brought back.
You dont get the point. This lot needs to go. Its like a spreading desease.

Forget the next 3 to 5 years, it will take a long time.

After being removed from captaincy not long ago, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Babar to take back captaincy or the PCB reappointing him after removing him from the post in the first place.

Both parties here have seriously embarrassed themselves, more so Babar who should’ve gracefully declined the captaincy and made clear he was happy to play under Shaheen or any other captain.

Whatever the underlying issue with this team, one thing is sure: just as the West Indies loss to Kenya in the 1996 World Cup heralded decades long death of the west indies cricket, Pakistan’s loss to the United States portends a very dark period for Pakistan cricket.

Absolute and ruthless purges should be happening to avert such eventuality.
???
They still made the semi final and lost only due to a massive choke.

And you think the new guys will be guys will be better? You forget the 20 or 40 years. It's a structural problem and until that is fixed it makes no difference

As per media reports, It is possible that Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi will be rested for the Test matches against Bangladesh whereas Haris Rauf’s inclusion in the squad is not even being considered.

Its not about being better or not, its about change. you need to change this lot, and yes I agree the fix if it ever will happen will take years. I do not think it will get fixed anyways.

This is all so childish.

Many players in professional sides despise each other but once they cross the line of play they work together to win games.

Two examples
1) Warne is open in his autobiography about how much he despised Steve Waugh and Adam Gilchrist. Didn’t stop them working together to win games for Australia (all related to previous perceived slights)
2) In football, Teddy Sheringham and Andy Cole would not speak to each other off the pitch. But on the field of play they worked together in the best interests of Man Utd.

Time to grow up kiddies.

Pakistanis, and desis in general, especially those from the sub continent are highly emotional. Their life hinges on “izzat” and if that is ever challenged or in their own mind put at risk, they will behave irrationally to try to find this mental peace and get back to their own definition of izzat irrespective of what is actually happening in the real world. You can see this unfolding in the Pakistan team for various reasons i.e. lack of education, personal upbringing, poor monetary backgrounds, etc. If you compare this to Australia, you will see their only focus is on winning. Despite personal likes and dislikes, they know their teammate can win them a match, and they respect this above all else. It’s the same in the professional world, you might not like someone but there is a minimum level of respect given to each other mutually to accomplish you organization’s goals and achieve great outcomes. Diverse opinions and challenging is valued, and seen as a competitive advantage. In the PCT, they want to run it as a country club where you only hang out with your friends.

The problem with pcb is that the selectors don't even watch the games. They look at the scorecards and are like yup he's the one.

Anyone who watches the game can tell abrar is > Usama mir even though usama got more wickets in PSL.

Similarly anyone who watches the game can tell tayyab, Abdullah, Shabzada farhan and Saud shakeel are leagues > azam even if Azam has finn Allen statistics in PSL.

It's about technique and if they actually watched the bloody game they'd be able to tell who's superior.

Abdullah technique wise is solid from all fundamentals. His weakness is that he lacks any unorthodox strokes which is crucial for t20 and he gets caught napping which is why he gets lbw'd or miss timing. However when it comes to pull shot or lofted strokes he's 100× superior to babar, Although babar is stronger on front foot and has a better cover drive.

Similarly saud technique wise struggles against bounce but otherwise he's extremely free flow and has all the shots.

Azam technique wise looks ugly. He has very slow reactions and looks more like a baseball swinger. No unorthodox strokes, no proper strokes such as drives or scoop or cut shots no inside out drive, no ramp shot no nothing. All azam does is swing for the stands which obviously won't work in international if that's all you know how to play. Infact his baseball swing for the stands won't even work against spin.

If the selectors actually watched the games they'd know this, Same way they'd know that abrar has variety in spin while usama can't spin and is one traditional awkward bounce hence he wouldn't function in international.

But nope, selectors are morons.

I agree with this and another issue with our PSL selectors/owners is they don’t know how to select the team. Their first priority is pack the batting with foreign players assuming Pakistan batsmen suck and cannot win them matches on their own. Their second priority is to select batsmen who they believe can hit a lot of sixes instead of batsmen who can play proper shots. This is the reason why for many years we kept seeing Khushdil Shah, Shoaib Maqsood and many other hacks.

Danish Kaneria speaking during an interview:

"Wasim Akram and other people can only preach from the outside. Why don't they come help the Pakistan side? Why did Wasim Akram not pose the question about Mohammad Amir's selection immediately? Shoaib Malik is a better player than these guys (the current squad),"

"They (Pakistan) should've picked 20-22 players in the camp, and then picked the best 15. Where were Mohammad Amir and Azam Khan six months ago?"

"They will wake up in the morning and say one thing, and then take a U-turn in the evening. They're the masters of the U-turn. They're egoistic and think they cannot make mistakes,"

As much as I love the guy, last thing PCT needs right now is Akram (another big ego) coming in some sort of administrator role and the return of Shoaib Malik.

Real problem is Pakistan abhi bhi ek daira se nikal hi nahi paye. In politics it's the same old faces coming back again and again and so too in cricket. No inventiveness, no innovation, nothing.

Everyone else took a back seat so he could develop

What an incredible picture.. three guys who were fighting for the reigns, two of which had their shot and have had their pathetic cricketing leadership exposed have finally come to grips with reality. Former PCB head Zaka Ashraf refutes claims of groupings in Pakistan cricket

Zaka Ashraf, the former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman held responsible for starting a slide in the fortunes of the national team, has denied any groupings in the dressing room.

Ashraf also brushed aside that his decision to appoint Shaheen Shah Afridi as the national T20 captain and Shan Masood as the Test captain after last year's ODI World Cup had sparked a rift in the dressing room.

There were no differences between Babar Azam or Shaheen even after I decided to have the latter as the T20 captain, Ashraf said on a local news channel.

"No, the unity didn't end (after removing Babar Azam as captain). In fact, the unity improved. When we told him to play as a player, which is his talent, but as a captain, his performance is not good, he agreed.

Shaheen was sacked as the national T20 captain after just a series in New Zealand and was also dropped for the second Test against Bangladesh last week due to poor form.

New Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reinstated Babar as the T20 skipper, while he has also been struggling for form and faced intense criticism after Pakistan's lacklustre show in the T20 World Cup this year.

Ashraf also defended his decision to appoint Shan and Muhammad Hafeez as the team director.

Hafeez is "a very honest man" and no, there was no grouping. The team was good. And, we brought Shan Masood as the captain.

"He was a very good captain. He is still a very good player. He is still a captain in England's counties.

"And, I made Shaheen Shah the captain of the T20I team. That was also a very good decision, he said.

Ashraf, who headed the interim cricket management committee appointed by the government from June to January, said he had taken the right decision to bring in Hafeez as team director.

Mohammad Hafeez is an excellent cricketer and a very honest person, we brought him along. Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, and these players, we brought them along so that the coaching staff is with the team, he added.
