Pakistan chief selector Inzamam ul Haq on Saturday said that veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez might be brought back into the team if the need be.

“We can bring Hafeez back into the team if we need him,” said the 46-year-old while talking to media in Karachi.

Not looking to revive career by clearing bowling test: Mohammad Hafeez

Pakistan is currently on a tour to New Zealand for a two-Test series where they are close to a defeat in the first match after two batting collapses.

Inzamam, when asked about what went wrong against the Kiwis, said: “We were hoping for a good performance from the team but they couldn’t deliver. However, the New Zealand wickets are different and we should give some time to the team to adjust.”

Pakistan managed a lead of 62 runs against the Black Caps after the third day but lost seven wickets in the process. They will be looking to stretch the lead to 150 if they are to give their bowlers any chance to defend.

Nevertheless, Inzamam was optimistic that the team could “make a comeback” in the next match.

He also said: “Players who will under-perform consistently will be removed to make way for others.”

Earlier, after the end of the third day, Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur also expressed hope that his team might be able to turn the game in their favour.

Can see him coming in for babar if babar fails next game and he passes test

Only if he comes in as an A/R and at no. 7, otherwise what is he going to do?

If he bats in the top order, then don't be surprised if he opens up a duck farm again and gets humiliated in the way Steyn did to him.

Btw, his bowling is useless on these green tracks anyway.

Another U turn? Hafeez despite being failed in practice match against WI 2nd string team is ready to be back. What happened to our A team players? If you do not give them chances in main squad and recycle seniors again and again than don't bother with our A team tour to overseas

Oh for the love of god please don't do this Inzi. We don't need Hafeez man. Its time to blood and groom new young players. I know he hasn't done enough has a allrounder but I would prefer someone like Mohammad Nawaz or even a young pace bowling allrounder. Just not Hafeez, his failures against England should be the final straw in his "illustrious career"

Don't think he will. Just seems like a measured response. In the current match even if Hafeez batted at number ten he wasn't going to score anything

U turn = Hafeez back in team

Khuda ko maan Inzi... Allah Allah karke tou Professor se nijaat mili thi..

Why not give some performing youngster a chance, atleast there might be some hope that he will perform, with Hafeez you can bet your bottom dollar that he won't last long on surfaces like these.

If ur really desperate for a 5th bowling option take nawaz or imad and give em time to settle...move forward please.

Playing Hafeez will be a big mistake , Pakistan have better players who can do that job.

Hafeez can play in the middle order at no.4 or 5 and resurrect his career... for that he has drop the ego and admit he is not a test opener which I doubt he will.....

So, if a youngster like Babar or Sami fail then instead of playing another promising youngster, Inzy wants to go back to TTFs like Hafeez? Inzi is proving to be as worse as Haroon Rasheed as a selector.

Hafeez in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2016-17:

5 matches - 9 innings: 273 runs @ 30.3

Does ANYONE seriously think Hafeez is the solution to our batting collapses on a green pitch?

The same Hafeez who averages 20 outside Asia... after SEVENTEEN matches.

People are overreacting. Inzi can't make wholesale changes and he knows Pakistani culture well enough to not publicly criticize players like Hafeez or Afridi. He is just giving measured responses. He isn't as dumb as people make him out to be. Him and Micky Arthur have a good relationship. And If we are patient, in the next year or so we will see good results and selections.

They have to think rationally. Not every player is as useless as PP keyboard warriors think, nor is every youngster as great as people on here think. Changes happen through phases, and are usually one or two players at a time.

No sane person can (and nor does Pakistan have the available talent to) discard 7-8 players at once and bring in their fresh young replacements.

Judging from the statements of the coach and chief selector, we can be rest assured that no one is simply going to walk into this team based on their reputation. Expect some changes though after the end of the Australia tour.

A/R is badly needed in this team

Hafeez is quite possibly the worst player of swing and seam bowling that Pakistan has ever produced. Atleast a player who has played more than 10 matches.

Honestly HE is going to be the saviour in those conditions? We might as well pack our bags and call it a day as far as these tours are concerned then

Also. He is an off spinner who wasn't really ever a frontline bowler by any stretch anyway. What exactly will be his utility in Australia and New Zealand of all places which have a history of being unforgiving to finger spinners

Only way is if he plays at seven and plays as a fifth bowler. Otherwise I will give the spot to Babar and chalk it up to a learning experience for a talented, albeit raw young player.

Pakistan fans worst nightmare is watching hafeez bat in conditions that favour either swing or seam.

With reports that Misbah is unlikely for the next test, I would not be surprised if Hafeez is flown in as replacement because of his "experience". If no replacement is sent, then I guess Sharjeel will be debuting

Do you really see Sharjeel surviving more than 3 overs on a green top?

Mr Chief selector, do you really care about performance ( or lack of it ) of a player in domestic FC season. Forget about Hafeez's age and his pathetic record outside Asia, just look at his form in ongoing QA trophy, scored another duck today.

Yeah, Hafeez is an ALLROUNDER, equally bad in bowling and batting.

Imad Wasim
Aamer Yamin
Ammad Butt

Man, I'd even take Hammad Azam...

Ideally Pakistan play a batting A/R at #6 (if Asad in not in top 5 batting positions then drop him).

For a batting A/R I am open. Select Aamer Yamin if Pak is playing on seaming wickets. Or Select Mohammad Hafeez is Pak is playing on dead wickets.

Hafeez unlikely to be recalled

http://www.dawn.com/news/1299050/hafeez-unlikely-to-be-recalled

Mohammad Hafeez is highly unlikely to find a place in the national side for the upcoming Test series in Australia when the selectors name the Pakistan squad, sources told Dawn on Sunday.

Former captain and batting great Inzamam-ul-Haq, who heads the four-man National Selection Committee, has reportedly decided against making changes to the squad which is currently engaged in the final Test of the two-match series in New Zealand.

According to sources, Inzamam, who was in Karachi on Sunday, will consult Pakistan captain Misbah-u-Haq in Lahore on Monday before announcing the squad for the Tests in Brisbane (Dec 16-20 day-night fixture), Melbourne (Dec 26-30) and Sydney (Jan 3-7).

Hafeez’s lack of runs in the ongoing Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship and inability to bowl until he clears the ICC biomechanic test are the reasons that have gone against him.

In six championship games prior to the current Super Eight tie, the 36-year-old has accumulated just 287 runs for champions SNGPL.
