14-man World XI squad announced, to face Pakistan in Independence Cup - Faf du Plessis captain

A far better squad than I imagined.

Very good squad.
Andy Flower has done a commendable job with the help of ICC.

Wish the world XI and PCB best of luck, hoping the tour goes as planned.

Enjoy the t20 series, and i wish Pakistan hosts many more series in the near future.

Excellent squad, nice to see the haters get triggered :yk

Looks a strong squad. It's great if you can manage to bring in such top players. I know players will agree if top level security is always provided.

I think even despite the costs this series will churn out some profit. The challenge ofcourse is whether PCB can ensure much profit in the long run especially with BCCI not agreeing anytime soon

Much stronger squad than I expected, should be a competitive series. Badree, Tahir, and Miller are top quality T20 cricketers, and Amla and Du Plessis aren't bad either. I guess Paul Collingwood is the only dud selection, but is probably just there for the sake of having an Englishman. Thisara Perera raises some eyebrows too, hasn't done anything of note for a long time

the intl xi looks very strong. pleasantly surprised didnt think the likes of Amla and Faf would come.

Whatever people think about Sethi being a political appointee but he has done a great job in trying to bring intl cricket back to Pakistan. First the PSL final and now this.

Props to him.

Excellent squad filled with brilliant players from around the World, a very competitive series on the cards.

My World XI team for 1st match:

H Amla
T Iqbal
F Du Plessis(C)
G Bailey
P Collingwood
D Miller
G Elliot
D Sammy
S Badree
M Morkel
I Tahir

This is very exciting. They did a fantastic job getting quality players. This will be a competitive series. Assuming all goes well T20Is Sri Lanka will get their series set and I think you will see regular T20I tours, which is a good first step.

The next step is to develop security plans and to reopen Karachi and Rawalpindi or Sialkot for international matches.

That's a very good team. Kudos to Sethi, he has really done a lot for Pakistan cricket in such a short time.

Good strong squad. Well done PCB.

Great Squad must say! Really looking forward to the series!

The World XI team is okay.

Not bad but not great either.

Too many TTF's and no bodies such as Bailey, Collingwood, Paine and Ben Cutting.

Bowling attack also looks weak with only Morkel and Tahir being world class.

The star attraction has to be Amla in that team.

Bailey and Collingwood are no push overs and have been world class during their careers and more recently in excellent form in the Natwest Blast, as a unit their bowling is fantastic lead by the dangerous Morkel with two excellent T20 leggies in Badree and Tahir; these guys are supported by the dibbly dobbly of Sammy and Elliot; as a captain I'd be happy with my resources, execution will be key. Then with the batting there is fire power at the top with Amla and Tamim, down the order you have fire works from Miller and Sammy. Overall an INCREDIBLE squad 9/10 mostly jealous Indians are angry and disagree :(

There got to be something seriously wrong with you to even remotely suggest "too many TTF's", not even one in this XI:

H Amla
T Iqbal
F Du Plessis(C)
G Bailey
P Collingwood
D Miller
G Elliot
D Sammy
S Badree
M Morkel
I Tahir

Absolutely moronic and ignorant to suggest otherwise. Jealous Indians always trying to give pakistan a bad-dua

Exciting time for Pakistan cricket. I can;t fly to Pak on such a short notice but will take day/time off to watch this live.

I disagree.

1) Bailey is not a TTF :))
2) Mornel + Tahir + Badree + Sammy + Elliot is a solid bowling attack
3) Du Plessis, Amla, Iqbal, Sammy, Tahir, Morkel, Miller are well-recognized stars

You're doing a real disservice with your assessment.

Bailey is rubbish - only good against India lol Convict

Badree, Sammy are decent but only as support bowlers - nothing else. Their bowling is Morkel/Tahir or bust.

Bailey and Collingwood do not belong in any World XI team lol

^^ This would have been the best World XI squad for Pakistan to play.

1) De Kock
2) Shikhar Dhawan
3) Kohli
4) Joe Root
5) Shakib Al Hassan
6) Jos Buttler
7) Ben Stokes
8) Andre Russell
9) Starc
10) Hazlewood
11) Tahir

Instead we only have 1 of these players (Tahir) playing in the World Xi

Now the responsibility is on security agencies to avoid any lapse from now on until the tour is completed.

You have to start somewhere, come on.

I was expecting the team to be full of players that can be classified as mediocre at best. Instead, the fact is that this team has the ability to beat us. The games should be competitive. World XI does not necessarily have to consist of the best available cricketers.

Most of these players have pedigree. Amla is a South African great and a former captain, Tamim is a top quality opener and possibly Bangladesh's best ever batsman so far. Faf, Collingwood, Bailey and Sammy have all led their international sides and all have a lot of achievements. Tahir is a top bowler, Badree has also been highly ranked, often #1 in T20I cricket (insulting to call him a support bowler) while Morkel is a great addition as a tall fast-bowler.

Honestly the team looks pretty good overall. Far exceeds my expectations. The only complaint I have is that there is no quality pacer alongside Morkel.

Really impressed, big names from every country (except India, but was expected I don't care). All of them are pretty well known except for maybe Cutting, who still played a few internationals.

Especially SA's contribution, they've sent 5 of some of their best players who are all part of the starting XI.

Bit surprised at Tamim playing though I'm happy he is. I thought he was one of the guys who were a bit wary of touring Pakistan before (when the board tried to push the series and without consulting the players about their concerns). If true, wonder why he changed his mind.

That is fine but I still disagree that Collingwood and Bailey are anywhere near "World XI" material. Collingwood was an average player at best during his prime and retired a while ago. Bailey had one good tour of India in 2013 and has been mediocre ever since - I don't even think he is in Australia's starting XI anymore. Grant Elliot and Sammy have no place being there either.

On the positive side - Tamim Iqbal is top class along with Du Plessis and Amla. Miller is a hard hitting lower order batsman so he adds value as well. Morkel and Tahir are the only star bowlers that I see.

The rest are average.

It's not about how good they are currently, it's about the fact that they are established cricketers in the international arena. Both Collingwood and Bailey have led England and Australia in the past. They're good cricketers but their presence is not for their cricketing prowess, it's for the message. They've played 400+ games for England and Australia and are now coming to Pakistan when teams have been unwilling to visit. That's the point.

Tamim regularly visits Pakistan personally. Just felt you should know

Back in 2012 the situation in Pakistan was far worse and touring Pakistan was out of question. The situation has improved.

But speaking of which touring alone and touring as a group is different. the latter is risky

Yeah they are better players than the draft pool of the PSL final :stokes and on paper seems like a decent team.

Not sure how much of an effect this will have on the perception of foreign teams willing to tour Pakistan but as you said it is a start nonetheless.

However, hopefully there are no more terror incidents between now and the World XI game - otherwise all of this effort will go to waste. IMO - the SL and WI tour are the big fish and if we host them successfully - it will go a long way to convincing SL and Wi to tour us regularly.

NZ Cricket delay, late schedule change costs Jimmy Neesham a spot in lucrative World XI team

A delay in New Zealand Cricket issuing clearance to Jimmy Neesham appears to have cost the allrounder a spot in the lucrative, hastily arranged World XI series in Pakistan next month.

Neesham's name was missing from the 14 read out by Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi just before midnight (NZT), a team including former Black Caps allrounder Grant Elliott to be captained by South Africa's Faf du Plessis.

NZC confirmed it advised the New Zealand Cricket Players Association (CPA) on Thursday it would grant the required no objection certificate to clear the way for Neesham to play in the three Twenty20 internationals where players are being paid a reported US$100,000 (NZ$138,000).

Big-hitting allrounder Jimmy Neesham was keen to accept an invitation to play in the World XI in Pakistan next month.

But that was apparently too late, leaving NZC, the CPA and Neesham surprised to say the least.

"I was expecting to see Jimmy in the side and I just think it's taken a little while to get his NOC there, which has meant he's missed the cut-off for selection in the team which is disappointing for him," CPA chief executive Heath Mills said.

Mills said he and Neesham were unaware of any cut off time for an NOC to be issued. Neesham spoke to World XI coach Andy Flower on Wednesday and he hadn't yet picked the team.

Things changed rapidly this week and NZC was also unaware of any deadline.

NZC chief executive David White said earlier this month it would not issue NOCs for any of its 21 contracted players due to other yet-to-be confirmed international commitments in late September. Non-contracted New Zealand players were free to accept any offers.

Then Sethi confirmed the series on Monday with new dates for the T20 matches, on September 12, 13 and 15 in Lahore, which was earlier than previously pencilled in.

"When that [series schedule] was cleared up during the past week, we put it in front of our board yesterday [Thursday], at which point approval was granted," said NZC's general manager public affairs, Richard Boock.

Elliott, who is retired from international cricket, will be the first New Zealand cricketer to play a top-level match in Pakistan since 2003 when Chris Cairns led an under-strength ODI side.

It is understood at least 15 top players turned down Flower's offer due to security concerns, including former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori.

Zimbabwe and Afghanistan are the only international sides to tour Pakistan since 2009 when Sri Lanka's team bus was attacked by gunmen on the way to Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium. The Black Caps abandoned their last test tour of Pakistan in 2002 after a fatal bomb blast outside their Karachi hotel.

Mills had confirmed Neesham's willingness to be part of the series, and said security expert Reg Dickason had given the Pakistan Cricket Board's "presidential level" security plan the thumbs up.

"In terms of our advice, we've just passed on the information from Fica [Federation of International Cricketers' Associations] around the series and the fact that Reg Dickason is providing the security for the team.

"He is comfortable with the security plan at the moment. We're not making any recommendations to the players as to whether they should go or not."

Neesham - just back from a T20 stint with Kent in England - was required to make his own insurance arrangements for Pakistan, which was understood to be one condition of NZC granting the NOC.

The International Cricket Council this year backed the return of top-level cricket to Pakistan, which hosted its Twenty20 Super League final in Lahore in March without incident. Several internationals including New Zealand's Nathan McCullum opted out of that match, after the rest of the tournament was played in the United Arab Emirates.

Very good team than expected. Hope all goes fine to revive cricket in Pakistan. Congrats to all Pak people. I am happy to see Tamim there to make the team stronger. Though many Pak poster think that BCB is a bad boy. Hope all goes without any hiccup. Best of luck shaz619 Markhor MenInG

Honestly I feel like they're playing because both Australia and England couldn't get many of their current cricketers to tour, they were probably unwilling. Still their good names, and it's nice to have a mix both former international players and present.

I've got to be honest I'm a bit taken back by how many South Africans are playing. It's half their international team. Really surprised, I didn't expect that.

I'm not sure what people expected. Sure its a world XI but that is because it draws a team from players all around the world. Not because its the best possible world XI.

Team is actually much stronger than I was expecting.

Tamim has three hundreds and a fifty in his last four one-day innings against Pakistan. No one has dominated Pakistani bowling like Tamim in recent times. He should absolutely be in a World XI against Pakistan.

Tamim Iqbal is bihari-origin so he may have some family/relatives in Pakistan.

Yes, Tamim is of Indian origin and probably has family in Karachi.

He also visits Pakistan to get his bats custom-made.

TIGERS gloveman Tim Paine will put full faith in the ICC security as part of a World XI that marks the return of international cricket to terrorism-ravaged Pakistan after an eight-year absence.

No international cricket has been held in the subcontinent country since a terror attack against the visiting Sri Lankan team in 2009 forced international scheduling to be relocated to the United Arab Emirates.

Paine, 33, said he had to have a good think before deciding to travel with the world team.

“I was contacted two or three months ago about playing and when [team coach] Andy Flower put together the team I ummed and aahed with it being it in Pakistan,” Paine said.

“I think there’s some really tight security and I trust the people that are employed to make these decisions.”

Paine will again team up with Tigers skipper George Bailey in the World squad, which will be led by South African Test captain Faf Du Plessis.

“We [Bailey and I] were both on a preliminary list of players selected to play, so we were both happy to receive the news,” Paine said.

Paine’s inclusion in the 14-man squad follows a successful period for the wicketkeeper, who was recently named in Australia’s T20 squad to tour India.

Paine admits his selection in the national squad came as a surprise to the right-handed batsman.

“It was a little bit unexpected when I received the call from Mark Waugh telling me I’d been selected,” he said.

“I’m really excited to have my glove work recognised, and to play among what looks to be a full strength Australian side.”

Paine will enter his 13th year with the Tigers for the 2017-18 season after contracts were announced last week by Cricket Tasmania.

Speculation grew earlier in the year whether Paine would recommit to the state after coach Dan Marsh was sacked and Victorian keeper Matthew Wade made public his desire to return to Tasmania.

The three-game T20 series between the World XI and Pakistan will begin on September 12.

World XI squad: Faf du Plessis (c), Hashim Amla, David Miller, Morne Morkel, Samuel Badree, George Bailey, Ben Cutting, Grant Elliot, Tamim Iqbal, Tim Paine, Thisara Perera, Daren Sammy, Imran Tahir, Paul Collingwood

Cheers buddy, am one of Tamim's biggest fans and have been for a long time; glad to see him come to Pakistan and he fully deserves to be in the World XI fantastic batsman, didn't know he has relatives there as well

msb314 Not only will this World XI compete and potentially win a game, they have a serious chance to win the series to, can't wait to see all the untah on your face :broad Hater ! :lara

The occasion is far bigger than the game itself, it doesn't matter who is playing. PCB could have bluffed with 14 players from SRL, ZIM, BD, AFG & ZIM - still it would have been a world XI.

Now the bigger challenge is to make sure that this series doesn't shut it down for another decade.

Are you going to watch the matches personally if tickets available?

Batting is world class by T20 standards but bowlig is weak. Only one specialist fast bowler in Morkel, Sammy and Elliott will have to bowl four overs each and that will benefit Pakistan. And then Tahir and Badree are world class T20 specialist bowlers.

Ben Cutting is a good option. Very good addition to this squad. Might play all the games

haha man this time is worse than India's that played the CT final - are we gonna beat them by 200+ runs if we played an ODI?

Yes but he is not better than De Kock or Dhawan.

Dhawan is in the best form of his life - scoring runs for fun...

I disagree. In 2012 a world xi came to Pakistan with not so great players and there wasn't really any hype about it. In fact, I bet many posters don't even remember that it happened. So I think getting high quality players who are well known is more likely to bring cricket back to Pakistan

I myself didn't know that there was some team touring PAK in 2012. What I can recall is AUS army team & a Kenyan team sometimes in 2014.

Now, for this World XI, I give you some names - pick any 14 from those

Tamim, Sakib, Mushfique, Mashrafee, Mustafiz, Mathews, Dilshan, Sangakara, Malinga, Mahela, Sammy, Gayle, Narine, Pollard, Bravo, Sikandar Raza, Imran Tahir, Hashim Amla, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Khwaza .... don't you think that these players would have pulled bigger or equal crowd? But, does it serve PCB's purpose?

An International XI captained by Jayasuria toured Pakistan in 2012. It consisted of primarily retired and minnow nation players and therefore failed to revive cricket in Pakistan. However, to make it clear, the International World XI was never brought forward with the aim of reviving international cricket in Pakistan.

The sole aim of the International XI was to bring some good quality cricket to the passionate fans of Pakistan who had abandoned stadiums for a good 3 years.

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Thursday no country had an authority to accuse or make undue demands from the Pakistani nation under the garb of support. “Pakistan is a fully sovereign and independent country, and its prestige and national honour are most dear to us,” he said.

Shahbaz expressed these views during a meeting with Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, as they discussed different matters of mutual interest, including the prevailing situation in the country, political affairs and international issues.

The chief minister said vibrant nations face challenges with bravery and the existing challenges had created many new opportunities. “They have provided the nation with an opportunity to make the country a great state,” he added.

He said, “The Pakistani people have the potential to change their destiny on their own. Hard work, zeal and courage are prerequisites to take the country to the heights of development.” He said Pakistan’s immortal sacrifices in the war against terrorism have no similitude in the comity of nations. Pakistan had achieved wonderful successes in war against terrorism and the sacrifices made the country more prosperous and secure, Shahbaz added.

“Pakistan’s invaluable sacrifices will be written in golden words in the annals of history,” said the chief minister. “Pakistan’s sacrifices and steps against terrorism should be fully acknowledged at the global level. We have to foil the nefarious designs of the enemy by maintaining unity in our ranks as its time to maintain unity and national cohesion rather than to divide the nation.” All the people were required to move forward in unison for the sake of the country,” said Shahbaz.

On the other hand, the chief minister, who presided over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, approved the plan to hold cricket matches between the World XI and Pakistan in Lahore, promising 100 per cent security for the World XI tour.

He also ordered foolproof security arrangements on Eid-ul-Azha, with special attention to be paid to bazaars and parks. The chief minister said the defunct organisations won’t be allowed to collect hides and ordered the officials to implement the ban strictly. Meanwhile, Shahbaz expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives in Karachi due to heavy rain and the unprecedented floods.

Najam Sethi, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Military are working together on this project. It will go nice and smooth without a doubt.

World XI visit: Gaddafi will light up with glee, says Waqar

Only the strongest survive trying times, and when they do, they emerge stronger than ever. Same will be the case with Pakistan in general and Lahore in particular, which in former coach Waqar Younis’ words will be ‘lit’ when true international cricket makes its way back to the country after eight long years.

Although a short tour featuring Zimbabwe did materialise back in 2015, the cricket-mad country’s fans wanted to see a sizable, substantial opponent on home soil. They demanded a tour where top players from major cricketing nations visited the country and faced their local heroes as opposed to minnows and castoffs.

Their wish was finally granted when a South Africa captain Faf du Plessis-led World XI team was set up to play three T20Is in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

With every single cricket fan in Pakistan happy and waiting anxiously for the tour, pace legend Waqar Younis’s case is no different as he too is cherishing the return of international cricket to the cricket-famished country.

“It has been nearly 10 years since international cricket was played on this ground [Gaddafi Stadium],” he said while talking to the Pakistan Cricket Board. “A few matches were played here before but it is great to see [true international] cricket returning to the country. Of course, it is a huge deal for the fans; it is a moment of great glee for all of us.”

The 45-year-old feels the grandeur of the World XI tour will not be any less than India’s historical visits to Pakistan.

“I hope the fans will enjoy as much as they used to enjoy when India visited this place,” he said. “I hope the fans will celebrate the return of international cricket with fervour and the air of Gaddafi Stadium will be filled with colours of happiness.”

‘Gaddafi will be full’

Waqar, while recalling his Gaddafi Stadium memories, claimed the ground would seem to shrink when cricket-hungry spectators flood in for the matches.

“Our generation was lucky; we lived in a time when international cricket was played regularly in Pakistan,” he said. “Now, when the new kids will see cricket happening in the country, it will be a moment of great pride for us.”

He continued: “The stadium will be full. When World XI will visit, other teams will start to come too, and this stadium will not be able to take the toll of fans. People are hungry to watch live cricket, to watch their heroes play in front of them. Those were good days (when cricket was played in Pakistan), but better days are coming soon.”

‘Thanks to people who made it possible’

Like all other former cricketers and analysts of Pakistani origin, Waqar did not leave the opportunity to thank everyone involved in making the World XI visit possible.

“I want to thank all the international players, the coaches, the management, whoever is coming on the tour, whoever is coming and supporting us,” said Waqar. “It is a big thank to them.”

He concluded by telling the World XI players to get ready for a grand reception.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to express our happiness in front of them. They’ll see. The Gaddafi Stadium is going to light up and things are going to start moving in the right direction,” he said.

World XI tour to Pakistan a milestone: Younus

ISLAMABAD - Former Pakistan cricket team captain and winner of 2009 World T20 Cup Younus Khan has said that the tour of World XI team to Pakistan is a milestone and help the country in reviving international cricket.

Talking to The Nation, Younus termed PCB chairman Najam Sethi as saviour of Pakistan cricket and hoped after World XI, more international teams and players would continue to come and play in Pakistan. “It is a great omen that with the star-studied World XI is touring Pakistan. Najam Sethi should continue to work on bringing more teams to Pakistan, as it should not be the end of the road. More international teams should come thick and fast as it will provide long-deprived Pakistani cricket fans opportunities to watch international stars playing in front of them.”

The former captain said he would like to give credit to Sethi for hosting the PSL-2 final in Lahore. “It was due to his all-out efforts and support of the armed forces and security agencies that international players trusted in our abilities and played in the PSL final in Lahore. According to my opinion, Sethi has fulfilled all the promises, which he had made so far.

“The tour of World XI is not a joke, as all the players, who will travel to play in the Independence Cup, are world-famed and mega stars and their presence will definitely give huge boost to Pakistan cricket and involve more and more youth in cricket. Pakistan cricket badly needs that boost and I am sure after World XI successful visit, Sri Lanka and then West Indies team would also come and play in Pakistan,” he added.

When asked whether he would be able to watch World XI matches, Younus said he would be very busy but tried his best to spare some time to witness highly entertaining matches. About his future plans, the former captain said: “My services are always available for Pakistan and for this, I don’t need any particular roles. I have met with Najam Sethi and informed him about my commitments, upon which he gave me too much respect.”

When asked how Pakistan team would cope without him and Misbah, the former cricketer said the green caps must have to come up with wonders. “One day, we had to leave the field and others had to replace us. I feel we had the depth and talent to replace anybody, but boys’ had to work very hard. For next few months, the team has to play matches against top Test playing nations, so I can see the head coach and PCB have enough time to prepare Test squad. Pakistan is blessed with so much talent and I am sure if the PCB and selectors should find out fresh talent and groom them well to fill the void.”

“The Champions Trophy victory had given Pakistan cricket a new lease of life and it was very important for Pakistan cricket to win that mega title and that too against India. Nothing could replace that and green caps proved their mettle and Sarfraz led the team from the front. I am sure he will be able to lead Test team with same zeal and take Pakistan cricket to next level. My best wishes are always with Pakistan team. I will decide about my future role soon,” Younus concluded.

Massive security for mega series

LAHORE - Police have mounted one of the biggest security operations in Lahore for the next week’s mega cricket matches to be played between Pakistan and World-XI at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Security has been heightened across the metropolis amid Taliban threats. Hundreds of paramilitary troops will also join hands with the provincial law enforcing agency to ensure best security arrangements for the rare event.

Police commandoes, patrolling squads, and anti-riot units will also remain on-guard on important roads and around the stadium. A goon number of plainclothesmen will also deployed at various points to keep a vigilant eye on the activities of the suspected persons.

Capital city police officer Muhammad Amin Wains has approved the security plan with massive deployment of force all across the provincial metropolis. The police chief Friday took a round of the city and reviewed the security arrangements for the visiting players. Wains last week chaired several meetings at the Lahore police headquarters to discuss and finalise the security strategy. The police chief directed the field officers to follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) with regard to the security plan.

The visiting players will be enjoying the status of “state guests” in the country, officials said. Dozens of police companies will work in two-shifts to guard stadium, hotel, and the travel route of the players.

In an exclusive interview with The Nation on Friday, Lahore’s SSP Rana Ayaz Saleem said the players will be given six-layer security at the stadium and the hotel during their stay.

“More than 1000 police commandoes will be deployed around the hotel with extraordinary police patrolling in the entire locality. Special teams of Nadra (the national database and registration authority) will assist police during security checking,” the officer said.

The paramilitary troops, intelligence operatives, and foot constables are also engaged in the security operations. Also, police commandoes and snipers will be deployed on the route during the movement of the players from the hotel to the stadium.

“This will be a joint (security) operation since Pakistan Rangers, and security and intelligence agencies are part of our team. We are working together to make the event a success,” says Saleem who leads the major police operations in Lahore.

On the other hand, city police have intensified security sweep in Lahore ahead of mega series. Hundreds of police are taking part in the search operations launched in the surrounding areas of the stadium and the hotel.

During the latest security sweep, officers were seen using biometric machines to verify the particulars of individuals. Police are searching hotels, inns, and different residential areas to hunt down suspected elements. At least three helicopters will continue hovering over the sky for aerial surveillance during the matches and police will continue patrolling on gun-fitted vehicles on all the roads which lead to the stadium.

According to SSP Saleem, a record number of police will guard the route while aerial surveillance will be ensured with the help of helicopters. The security situation will be monitored with the help of hundreds of CCTV cameras installed on the route.

“We will put in a place a proper system of close monitoring. We are taking multiple steps to ensure smooth and safe passage for the motorcades of the cricket players (from hotel to stadium and back),” the SSP said.

The police will also provide complete security cover to the cricket fans. “They (spectators) will be given shuttle-service and they will be allowed to enter the stadium after thorough searches at four different points,” the officer said.

On the directions of the city police chief the policemen would be provided water bottles and food at their duty points. Police and other security officials are expecting huge rush of cricket fans in Lahore since tickets for the mega matches are being sold like hot cakes.

Its going to be funny if we get rolled over by World XI

Guys like Iqbal, Cutting & Sammy can certainly hit. Any of those 3 could put on 40 runs in 3 overs all on their own and it wouldn't surprise me at all. Pakistan look to have the bowling edge but since the pitch is going to be a high scoring carnival road it might not matter as much.

World Team is actually pretty decent (better than I expected).

A sprinkling of current, quality internationals (Iqbal, Morkel, Amla, Tahir etc) and everyone else is still a very solid franchise t20 player in domestic leagues (Cutting, Collingwood, Sammy types).

Why no Indian? Since this is not a bilateral series, India should have no problems sending in a player, and considering Pakistan has been overly enthusiastic in trying to get a match with India, they must have approached Indian players The hypocrisy of BCCI is evident yet again. I would have loved to see Piyush Chawla or Stuart Binny.

All the posters writing off Paine and he ends up being selected as the keeper for the ASHES!
