At least 14 passengers were offloaded from a bus on the Makran Coastal Highway in Balochistan's Ormara area and shot dead by unidentified assailants early on Thursday.

According to Levies sources, around 15-20 unidentified armed assailants in camouflage uniform reportedly stopped five or six buses travelling between Karachi and Gwadar.

In the Buzi Top area, between 12:30am and 1am, the gunmen stopped a passenger bus, checked the identity cards of passengers, then offloaded at least 14 of the 16 passengers and shot them, the sources said.

Two passengers managed to escape the massacre and made it to the nearest Levies checkpost. They were shifted to Ormara Hospital for treatment.

Levies and other law enforcement personnel reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. The bodies of the victims were recovered from Noor Baksh Hotel.

The motive behind the killings and the identity of the victims are yet to be ascertained.

A similar incident took place in Balochistan's Mastung area in 2015, when armed men kidnapped about two dozen passengers from two Karachi-bound coaches and killed at least 19 of them in the mountainous area of Khad Kocha.

Within the past week, Balochistan saw a terror attack targeting the Hazara community in Quetta which left at least 20 killed, and a blast in Chaman which targeted security forces.

Oh my God!!! What is happening Pakistan

Indian elements in play here. They can not take the humilation that they recently got handed. Hopefully, Indian proxys are quashed in Balochistan soon; as they were in Karachi.

Considering Pakistan has a long history of military intervention, is it not concerning that you get atrocities committed by 'unidentified gunmen' periodically in some areas of the country? Seems like intelligence is very lax for a security conscious country.

BLA has claimed responsibility as per sources and we all know who controls those terrorists. Looks like India is trying to take revenge for attacks carried out by local Kashmiris. Didn't Indian defence minister threaten to attack Pakistan after Pulwama attack and said we will choose place and time to attack Pakistan?

There is a clear design to destabilize Balochistan which Indian ministers and advisor proudly claim. Should Pakistan create same drama India did on international scene?

India gave absolutely no proof of Pakistan's involvement in Pulwama attack so if terrorist organisation is only proof then clearly India is responsible for this attack?

By the way, received notice on sm about Lahore being on high alert for possible terrorist attack.

This is turning into a very serious situation. I don't recall these many people being killed IN balochistan all at once. Pakistan needs to act quick.

Really? Any proof? On which passport?

Its pakistan that keeps meddling in India. Your PM's statements are a proof.

He's already been caught with a fake identity issued by the Indian government. That is the primary evidence against him.

Even if assume that India is behind this attack, ultimately, this is a result of two critical mistakes on our part.

(1) interfering in J&K after Hari Singh ceded control to India. That was the moment when our business in J&K ended. Yes the majority of the people of Kashmir do not believe that it was valid, but nevertheless, it was and is a matter between the people of J&K and the Government of India.

We had our hands full with our country, but our misplaced priorities and our inability to mind our business has allowed India an opening to give us a taste of our own medicine in East Pakistan and Balochistan. We lost East Pakistan, and the chances of us losing Balochistan are higher than the chances of India losing J&K.

(2) There is no need of blaming RAW, CIA or Mossad. This tragedy is rooted in Musharraf's critical mistake of killing Sardar Bugti. The Baloch will never forget that show of bravado by our government and we pretty much killed our chances of improving our relationship with them. Had we avoided that blunder, we could have hoped of bringing the people of Baloch on the same page as everyone else in the country.

One thing to note that here is that the militants based in IOK has never killed innocent people and never done attacks like these.

Who was Sardar Bugti? Why was he killed?

I think he's talking about akbar bugti. He was like some important baloch figure and was accused of waging war against the state. Apparently he was accidentally killed in 2016.

My view is that regardless of Indian involvement - which I have little doubt is there - Pakistan is still responsible for security of it's own citizens. If it is BLA claiming responsibility then they are enemies of the state and need to be pursued and shut down with the killers brought to justice.

I note that there is no official statement yet blaming India directly or indirectly, for that Pakistan govt deserves some credit for not jumping the gun. Pakistan should not try to follow India's lead and act like a third world country by refusing to take responsibility for security within it's own borders.

I am surprised nobody has pointed out the Sunni Militants in Pak killing the Shia in Pakistan. Let the details come out and you will know that it will be a Sunni Militant outfit.

BRAS claimed it.

This is one of the most alarming piece of news to come out recently. I hope law enforcement, or military take care to treat this as one of the most important security concerns for our country. I have no doubt that if we can battle against other terror groups in Pakistan and on our borders, then this is also able to be dealt with.

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad on Saturday lodged a strong protest with Tehran over the country’s inaction against the group allegedly responsible for the attack on Makran Coastal Highway which killed at least 14 people.

The protest was lodged through a letter sent to the Iranian embassy in the federal capital and demanded action against banned outfits operating across the south-eastern border.

“Several times in the past, demands had been put forward to Iran to take action against the banned outfits,” the letter stated.

The letter further alleged that Iran, despite being informed by Islamabad’s intelligence apparatus, took no action against the terrorist entities.

Pakistan Navy personnel among 14 massacred execution-style near Ormara

At least 14 passengers, including Pakistan Navy personnel, were offloaded from buses and were shot dead by terrorists on the Makran Coastal Highway on Tuesday.

A passenger bus – travelling between Karachi and Gwadar – was stopped by around 25 unidentified attackers in the Buzi pass area near Hangol after midnight.

The terrorists – wearing Frontier Corps uniforms – checked the identity cards of the passengers before offloading and abducting the victims.

They seem pretty happy now coz they've carried out the dead. When their 30 or something soldiers or whatever they were, were killed they blamed pak. Now when pak is saying Iran is behind it, Iran wants friendship. Smh

Balochistan is not adjacent to India. Only one for way for weapons to come in: whether it was during insurgency during zia’s time or now. It doesn’t matter who supplies this weapons, Iran should allow its territory to be used as a conduit by friends abusing the privilege of access

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday said that Pakistan expected both Iran and Afghanistan to take action against the terrorist groups behind the Ormara massacre.

While addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Qureshi said that the whole country was "angry and upset" over the incident and wanted to know why this incident had taken place and who was behind it.

At least 14 passengers were picked out with the help of their National Identity Cards (NICs), forcibly offloaded from their bus and then shot dead by unidentified assailants on the Makran Coastal Highway in Ormara, Balochistan early on Thursday.

Qureshi today confirmed that "BRA" — an alliance of a number of Baloch terrorist organisations — had come forward and claimed responsibility for this "ghastly event".

He stated, "on the basis of verified information", that the training and logistical camps of this new alliance were based inside Iran's borders.

Qureshi added that following investigations and confirmation, this information has been shared with Iranian authorities.

He said that the location of the camps has also been identified.

The foreign minister said that Pakistan expects Iran to take action against these outfits. Additionally, he said that Pakistan also expects action to be taken by Afghanistan as the BRA's presence and leadership has also been identified there.

Qureshi said that Islamabad expected Kabul to help the country with the same spirit that Pakistan was working towards establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan.

He shared that specific forensic evidence was available, which he said could be shared to trace these "criminals".

"They're criminals who have done this incident," Qureshi reiterated.

The foreign minister shared that he had spoken to his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, prior to the press conference and shared the sentiments of the Pakistani people as well as the expectations of the government.

According to Qureshi, Zarif too had condemned the incident and said that it was not just an attack on Pakistan. Additionally, he ensured Qureshi of his full cooperation and assured him that Iran would help Pakistan trace the terrorists.

Zarif added that with Prime Minister Imran Khan arriving in Iran tomorrow, there would be a chance for further conversations to discuss mechanisms that could further be put into place to avoid such incidents.

Prime Minister Imran is set to visit Iran for a two-day official visit starting tomorrow (Sunday) on the invitation of the President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani.

While addressing the press conference, Qureshi shared six steps that have already been taken, keeping the sensitivity of the border in mind, in order to make it a "border of peace" and to ensure stability.

A new command has been formed to create ease in vigilance and prompt action. The command will be headquartered in Turbat and has been formed so that the border can be manned more effectively than previously.

A new Frontier Corps has been raised so that the border can be managed better than before.

Based on the consultations between Iran and Pakistan, Qureshi said that joint border centres are being established.

According to the foreign minister, it has been decided that the border with Iran will be fenced the way the Pak-Afghan border was being fenced. Qureshi added that the process has started and is being started from the most frequently exploited points.

Qureshi said that it was decided that border patrolling exercises would be synchronised.

Heli-surveillance would be done between the two countries to prevent further incidents.

Qureshi added that while speaking to Zarif, he had reiterated that whenever an incident took place in Iran and they had expectations from Pakistan, Pakistan did not disappoint.

"We also expect that our brother and friend will take visible action," Qureshi said, adding that, as a result of such visible action, Pakistan will be successful in eliminating elements that have intentions of conducting terrorism in Pakistan.

A day earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif had publicly condemned the attack. In a post shared on Twitter, Zarif wrote: "Strongly condemning the recent terrorist attack in Pakistan, just as PM [Imran Khan] embarks on his first, historic visit to Iran."

"Terrorists, extremists and their sponsors are terrified by close relations between Muslim states," Zarif wrote, adding that Iran stands with the Pakistani people and government.

Ormara Levies registered a first information report today in connection with the incident.

A Levies officer, who wished not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter, told DawnNewsTV that an FIR has been lodged against unknown terrorists for the murder of 14 people on April 18. The case has been registered on behalf of the government, the officer added.

Terrorism, murder, attempt to murder and other sections have been included in the report, according to the Levies personnel.

Levies officials said security had been beefed up in the area and passenger buses were being strictly checked in the aftermath of the cold-blooded murders.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohsin Hassan Butt said that the investigation has been transferred to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

Pakistan lodges protest with Iran on 'inaction' against terrorist groups
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) earlier the same day lodged a strong protest with Iran regarding its inaction against terror groups believed to be involved in the Ormara massacre.

In a letter written to the Iranian embassy on Friday, the MoFA stated: "Killing of 14 innocent Pakistanis by terrorist groups based in Iran is a very serious incident that Pakistan protests strongly."

As per a copy of the letter received by DawnNewsTV today, 15-20 terrorists camouflaged themselves in Frontier Corps (FC) uniform, barricaded the road and stopped 3-4 buses travelling from Ormara to Gwadar on the coastal highway at Buzi Top before dawn on April 18. On the identification of the passengers, 14 personnel belonging to the armed forces were shot dead, the letter recalled.

Earlier, it was reported that of the at least 14 people who died in the incident, 11 were personnel of the Navy, Air Force and Coast Guards.

According to the ministry's letter, "BRAS", an alliance of three Baloch terrorist organisations, claimed responsibility for the terrorist act. Following the incident, MoFA said that the terrorists, who had arrived from the border region, returned to that area.

MoFA stated that Pakistan has "repeatedly" shared intelligence about these activities. The ministry added that in the recent past, as well on numerous occasions earlier, "information about the hubs of these Baloch terrorist organisations in Iran, having training camps and logistics bases across the border" was shared with the Iranian intelligence.

"Unfortunately, no action has been taken by Iran in this regard, to date," the letter stated.

While lodging Pakistan's protest against the deaths in Ormara, the MoFA added that Pakistan was awaiting Iran's response to its "request for action against these groups based in Iran, whose locations have been identified by Pakistan a number of times."

The ministry called on the embassy to convey the concerns to the relevant authorities in Iran for "prompt action".

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the esteemed embassy the assurances of its highest consideration," the letter concluded.
