15th match of 2019 World Cup between South Africa and West Indies abandoned due to persistent rain

Its always fun to see WI do well but hoping for a SA win tomorrow to keep Pakistan in the hunt for the Semi Final

After a chastening first week and a half at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019, South Africa will be eyeing their first win as they take on West Indies at the Hampshire Bowl, Southampton on Monday.

Dale Steyn ruled out due to injury, Lungi Ngidi unfit, an uncertain batting line-up and three losses on the trot- South Africa have had a tough start to their 2019 World Cup campaign. The fast bowlers' performance in the 6-wicket loss to India must be heartening for the team management, but it's the batsmen who need to step-up against an aggressive West Indies pace attack on Monday.

With Ngidi still in doubt, Du Plessis might look to draft in Beuran Hendricks, who came in as a replacement for Steyn, to add some teeth and variety to the bowling attack. The Proteas desperately need a win to stay in contention for a spot in the semi-finals.

The West Indies will look to rise up after their narrow defeat to Australia at Trent Bridge, a game they would have felt was under their control for most part of the day. While the aggressive opening burst from the fast bowlers in the first two matches reminded us of their glory days of old, failure to consolidate on the start and poor shot selection by the batsmen in the run-chase, hurt them dearly against Australia.

However, having won their opening fixture and having pushed Australia close, they will be the happier of the two teams heading into this match.

Key players

Quinton de Kock (South Africa): Runs early on in the innings has been sadly lacking for South Africa so far this tournament, with the highest opening stand for the Proteas at this World Cup being just 49. The wicket-keeper batsman, currently ranked fourth in the in the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Rankings, will aim for a match-winning performance against a potent West Indies attack.

Andre Russell (West Indies): Quick runs down the order and wicket-taking abilities with the ball - Russell is an integral part of this West Indies team. While he has been a big part of their success with the ball so far, the all-rounder, with his ball striking abilities, is capable of producing match-winning performances against any opposition on his day.

Conditions:

With even chances of rain, a few showers might be expected in the afternoon at The Hampshire Bowl. With cloud cover expected to remain for most part of the day, fast bowlers might once again play a decisive role on Monday.

We need South Africa to win. Also them winning would keep the tournament more intriguing.
 
I like both the teams they are my favourites but I think south Africa will win this one.I hope it will be a good game.Rain needs to stay away
 
SA will be fired up for this one. I feel they will win it if rain doesn't spoil it.

AB de Villiers would´ve come in handy today. From what I remember, he had made three centuries against the West Indies in all three world cup matches that he had played against them, in 2007, 2011 and 2015 respectively. Still though, the senior batsmen from this current South African batting line-up always have had a liking for the West Indies bowlers. I´ve a feeling that they´ll bounce back today.

The Gayle Force might´ve some other ideas mind you. I think it´s him who stands between the two teams.
 
They should leave Hashim out for this one. Russell, Oshane will bombard him with short stuff and it could get ugly.

At least the game's started. Usually would support WI in this clash but as already acknowledged, SA victory would be better for Pak. Edit: Out!
 
Amla has always had the spine of a jelly, but he is technically finished as well. He is a spent force and South Africa should drop him after the World Cup even if he doesn’t retire.

J. Malan is a far better player at the moment.
 
Amla's contribution this WC does not warrant a selection. This is what happens when you play past your sell-by date. All those players that go out on top make the right decision.

good to see roach, windies were desperately needing him. would have easily won against australia if he played. roach is a must in every game, he is the most experienced bowler

Hope wet indies goes deep into the tournament , the most exciting team of the tournament by a country mile.

He was involved in a car accident a few years ago and lost his pace due to injuries. He's now more of a line and length swing and seam bowler than the tearaway fast bowler when he debuted.

I can't understand that why Amla isn't batting in middle order? He is struggling against movement of pace bowlers. He plays spin well. So he should have batted at no 4.

Could be, but they haven’t had many successful white ball players in the past, especially not to Amla’s extent.

He has the fourth most hundreds in ODIs, and is only three shy of Ponting.
 
On these wickets SA are really missing guys like Morne, Olivier and even Philander. This is really sad for both SA cricket and international cricket. Not to mention Steyn.
How can you compete with the best when you don’t have players of that calibre?

Just imagine India without Bunrah, England without Archer and Woakes, Kiwis without Boult and Ferguson, Australia without Starc and Cummins...
 
Good start by SA after Amla's wicket. Anything over 250 will be tricky because of the way WI play.

275 and beyond will take the game away from WI.

Just play cautiously for another 8 overs. Wickets in hand are key.
 
SA batsmen can’t play bounce?! Wth they grew up on such wickets , they dishb it to asian teams in SA but here they’re gettinf a taste of their own medicine from Windies Cottrell!
 
Markram was touted to be big hope for SA but he has only flattered to deceive till now.
 
SA are pretty much the whipping boys in this world cup.
 
SA didn't win with their lot better squad in previous world cups ,how do we expect to win with this weakest team?
 
SA are a perfect Bilateral Series team. But they s.ck at the icc events! This WC proves further

Little bit of drizzle and here they come off. Worst WC, just ahead of 2007. 2011 was still the best till date. 2023 will be the best ever as its held in Asia and asian teams will be even stronger.
 
Sadly I don't see this match being completed.

Instead of having match after match at the same venues, you run less risk of running foul of the weather if you spread the venues out across the country.

The forecast is clear at Old Trafford today...

Neither do I. I don't even believe they are chokers either because they did win 1998 CT and numerous tri national tourneys.

Just because they did not win a WC people call them so. Even ENG/ NZ have not won the WC but they escape that tag.
