so it will be either Pakistan or Netherland? We are knocked out already. How have teams like Japan and South Africa automatically qualified? India and Spain have the easiest matches.

LAUSANNE: Pakistan’s hockey team, ranked 17th in the world, face an uphill task to make it to next year’s Tokyo Olympics after being paired with the Netherlands in the qualifying draw on Monday.

The draws were made at the International Hockey Federation (FIH) headquarters in Lausanne on Monday with Pakistan and India kept apart after hockey’s world governing body dismissed suggestions earlier this week that the two-legged tie could be held in Europe if the arch-rivals were drawn together amid diplomatic tensions bet*ween the two countries.

Three-time Olympic cham*pions Pakistan will instead take on the Nether*lands, the world’s third-ranked side, in Amsterdam on October 26 and 27 in the 14-team final qualification phase for the Tokyo Games which will see the aggregate winners earning a place at next year’s Games.

India, meanwhile, will face Russia while the other ties see Britain taking on Malaysia, New Zealand facing South Korea, Spain playing host to France, Canada hosting Ireland and Germany and Austria going head-to-head.

Japan, Argentina, South Africa, Belgium and Australia have already secured qualification as the five continental winners.

The 2020 Olympic hockey tournament will be staged between July 25 to August 7 at Oi Hockey Stadium.

Japan qualified being host nation and winners of Asian Games 2018, yes they beat Pakistan in Semi and then Malaysia in finals.....do you believe that????

South Africa won African Qualifier in 2019.

Coming back to FIH qualifiers, it's like a sudden death, anyone can win on a given day, no points for consistency. I feel out of the 7 quota, here will be teams going to play Olympic -

1. Spain
2. Holland
3. Canada
4. India
5. New Zealand
6. Germany
7. Great Britain

Pakistan to miss second consecutive Olympic Hockey event, sad state of Hockey.

Our hockey is dead. New government has not taken a single step for hockey, same dinosaurs are running PHF. Pakistan will fail to qualify for any major events (olympics/world cup) for the foreseeable future.

There used to be a town in Pakistan that had produced so many good players, I don't remember the name, maybe someone can point in the right direction. What are kids doing in that town??? Totally in Cricket???

Pakistan were in the bottom pot the draws were done on a ranking based pak was in same pot as Austria and Russia and had to play pot 1 team which could have been Netherland - Germany or India none are easy teams but Pakistan basically got the hardest team from the hardest pot lol

I think it's the city of Gojra and it has a high school that produced a lot of players who played for Pakistan

2019 Test matches GER v PAK

So another loss!

Pakistan hockey team will be looking for Olympic ticket, when they face Netherlands in the first of the double header qualifier.

Pakistan will meet the hosts Netherlands again tomorrow as the aggregate score of both the matches will decide that who would win the right to play in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 hockey event.
Pakistan chances look quite dim after recent thrashing at the hands of Germany last week as they lost the first encounter 6-1 and the second 6-2. Seeing the recent performances of Pakistan hockey team, which have had an unsettled time, only a miracle can help them beat the hosts Netherlands by a good margin to earn an Olympic ticket.

Pakistan head coach Olympian Khawaja Junaid said: “Netherlands have been displaying good hockey tactics and skills recently. We are preparing our strategy to control their strengths.”

The Netherlands side has been enjoying steady success in the past few months. A third place finish in the FIH Pro League came off the back of a silver medal performance at the 2018 World Cup.

The Dutch have played at 18 out of a total of 23 Olympic Games – the last time they were absent was the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Head coach Max Caldas and his men will have the pressure and expectation of a large and vociferous home crowd to contend with.
Netherlands’ Seve Van *** said: “Pakistan are a really good team and we have huge respect for them. They have quality players with some individual skills and we have had some tough matches against them.”

The next two weekends (October 25-27 & November 1-3) will see some fascinating hockey matches taking place as 14 men’s and 14 women’s teams do battle for a place at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The seven winning teams in each gender will join Japan men and women, who qualify as both hosts and as Asian champions. The other four continental champions are also qualified, namely Argentina men and women, South Africa men and women, Netherlands women, New Zealand women, Belgium men and Australia men.

Participants in the Olympic Qualifiers booked their places through one of three avenues: nations that finished first or second in the FIH Series Finals that took place earlier in the year; nations that finished in the top 4 of the inaugural FIH Pro League but did not win their Continental Championship; or by virtue of their FIH World Ranking.

Within each gender, the 14 teams have been drawn into seven pairs, and they will play a double header over two consecutive days with the scores from both matches added together. As French player Charles Masson pointed out: “It is two times 60 minutes, so we must be patient.”

Wow what a result first leg ends 4-4 what a good result for Pakistan depending on how the second leg goes Pakistan might have a chance to qualify

Pakistan did have the lead 4-3 but give up a goal towards the end regardless what a performence proud of the boys I was thinking easily Netherlands would win like 5-1 or 6-2 or something come on boys lets pull the upset tmr

Ofcourse that is unfortunate but they have to take the positives into the next game

For sure brother end of the day amazing result but Dutch will come harder in second game Pakistan need to be ready and need to be better on defense too inshallah expecting a good result again

Congratz to spain as well for advancing against France

Last game today Canada will take on Ireland

CANADA men's field hockey team will be going to the Olympics woot woot ;)

After winning the match 3-1 they were tied an legs (6-6) and both teams faith would be decided in a penelty shootout after being down 3-1 in the shootout Canada came back to make it 3-3 and ended up winning in sudden death shootout.

The heartbreak came from Ireland as the last shooter McKee while trying to attempt a play had the ball and his feet and what not able to complete his attempt which led to a golden opportunity for Canada and they converted

Congratz Canada hard luck on Ireland both teams played well

India get passed Russia winning game 1 4-2 and the second game 7-1

And have qualified for the Olympics

But to think that Pakistan was 11 seconds away from victory before the Dutch tied it up on a penelty corner but regardless both teams played well

Seems like the Pakistani team has the skills but not the stamina. That explains why they collapsed in the second leg.

Seems like the Pakistani team has the skills but not the stamina. That explains why they collapsed in the second leg.

They lack a bit of skill to if we compare them to the top teams also stretegy and game awareness is lacking but big issue is the fitness that's true also the goalkeeper wasn't that great either to be honest

New Zealand advance to Olympics by defeating South Korea 6-2 on on aggregate

Germany advance to Olympics by defeating Austria 10-3 on aggregate

Great Britain advance to Olympics by defeating Malaysia 9-3 on aggregate
