The 23rd March Celebrations for Pakistan Day

Looks like a big one for Pakistan with a lot of emphasis on fighting terrorism etc. Also the parade is supposed to have Chinese troops also.

It wasn't always so. People used to actually tune in to watch the parade in its entirety, and having a ticket or an invitation to watch it in person was a boast-worthy feat. I guess ever since the parade started being cancelled due to security reasons, the fervor for it went away.

Of course, those of us who are historically inclined know the day for what it is: based on a false pretext to cover up for the fact that the first Martial Law abrogated the very constitution the passage of which this day was supposed to mark, complete with the symbolism that is jackboots romping down Constitution Avenue marching straight towards the rightful seats of power.

so if an arm leadership comes in place, then does the Pakistan Day become an ironic day?

I like Pakistan day as it reminds us why Pakistan was formed. We need to be reminded of all the sacrifices our ancestors made for the Pakistan we today take for granted. Nice to see China and Turkey join the party as well.

does anyone even watch the parade anymore? most people are happy for the holiday, thats about it

Some people probably find PTV's coverage boring because they are still using the cameras they bought in 80s. Watch North Korean or old German Parades, they know how to make them exciting.

The Pakistan Day started with a 31 in Federal and 21 Gun Salute in Provincial Capitals.
