26 years since Pakistan last played a five-match Test series

Ehsan Mani the new Chairman PCB has take this matter into consideration that Pakistan is a major Test playing nation with incredible records, however since the Summer of 1992, Pakistan has not played in a single 5 Match Test Series. That is 26 years.

Back in 1950’s-early 1990’s, regular 5 match Test series involving Pakistan were common.
India England Australia South Africa regularly play 4/5 match Test Series.

Pakistan is a proud Test Cricketing Nation, Muhammad Yusuf still holds highest Calender year runs scorer 1788 (2006) despite Kohliz, Smiths, Pontings, Laraz, Tendulkarz and all, Yusuf’s record is still there.

Pakistan did not lose a Test Series on Home soil from 1980-1995.
And designated home ground UAE/Eng/Nzl
2007-2017.

This year Pakistan has not lost any Test series ( Ireland England Aus) so far. They won the mace the biggest Test prize in 2016. Won away at West indies in 2017 for the first time.

Yet PCB is disregarding Test Cricket. Our youth and kids do not even know the rules of Test cricket.
Our future tour test program is disappointing. Not even a single 4 match test series in next 5 years. That is Sad.

You mean to say since Summer of 1992, no team has ever desired to play 5 match Test Series with Pakistan. That is a lame excuse and joke.

England played 5 Test matches v West indies in 2009. I am sure pcb is richer than Windies cricket board.

True we could have had 3 tests against Australia and skipped the 3 T20s. Australia wouldnt have had the problem with that. However I feel like major teams dont give Pakistan enough time in the calender where we can accomodate enough tests and limited overs cricket.

We should atleast try to schedule 3 tests. 2 is criminal. Unfortunately, upcoming FTP is loaded with 2 test series, many of which are between Pakistan and another team

At the very minimum Pakistan should be playing 3 test match series Yes there’s financial implications to consider but an extra test per series won’t break the bank

This does them no favours as they play very little anyway and hampers results and progress of players You can never become a top tier test team playing a test here and there and the same applies to players

Look at the likes of Azhar who has struggled this year because of the lack of playing time and the lack of experience in the current team

The only time 5 match test series makes sense if it's between very strong and evenly matched teams with big followers of test cricket. India, Australia and England. Even between them it becomes boring in the end, but at least ground is not empty.

From the summer of 1992-2009 for 17 years Test Cricket was played in Pakistan. Yet no 5 match Test series home or away.

In UAE pakistan only started to play in 2010.

26 years no 5 match Test series home or away.

There isnt a single series in world cricket that should be 5 tests long, let alone involving pakistan. Even the ashes has seen to many 1 sided beat downs recently. 3 tests per series should be standard for all series unless your playing ireland, Afghans, W.I, bangladesh then it should be 2 test series.

Yes, PCB can try for a 4 match series against ENG, but not against AUS or SA.

Obviously the other financially viable (cant vouch for quality of cricket) 4 or 5 test series would be vs India, if the political stuff is resolved.

PCB can't even organize 3 test match series . This series with Australia should have been a 3 test series . Same with Lankan 1 last year. Also the England one too.

Don't think any board wants to play Pakistan for a 5 test match series tbh.

Every major test series should be 5 tests. It is even more important in modern era where home team takes full advantage of opposition not getting comfortable in alien conditions. Teams used to reach a month in advance in past and play 3-4 tour games before first test. Nowadays even most high profile test series start with just 1-2 useless tour games inside 7-10 days. Result? Visiting team loses first 2 tests before getting settled and the series is already lost. India in particular missed out on away test series wins in Australia 2007-08 and South Africa in 2018 because they were too short. Had there been 5 tests India would have come out on top in both series or at least managed a draw.

The Ashes get a lot of viewership, and lots of people in the stadiums.

Pakistan don't deserve 5 tests. They almost lost to Ireland. They will be exposed against any team with our pathetic squad selections in 5 test match series. It's our good luck India Pakistan is not playing, the Indian batsman would be wiping the floor with our bowlers and would score 1000 runs in 3 days and bowl is out twice in one day.

I don't think Pakistan need to play 5 match test series, unless it's a landmark series against India perhaps. Otherwise 3 or 4 tests are more than sufficient. I hope Mani keeps his word and doesn't accept any more 2 match test series in the future. This series against Australia would have been way more interesting if we had a third test scheduled instead of the useless T20 internationals.

5 match series are just unsustainable in the modern era. Even against India - more emphasis would be given to the shorter formats.
