What's new

2nd 4-Day practice game between PCB Green & PCB White ends in a draw

May be bowl all the 4 pacers in the first 15 overs to utilize the new ball and continue with the bowlers who gets more swing from both ends..

Ok but what happens when the ball stops swinging and it's overs 35-80

Yasir will go at 4 an over if there is no spin ( which is likely on 1st morning)

Sohail can't really bowl in those conditions.

Sohail doing what imran did prior to Australia test series, making case for selection. But i think misbah now has been in this situation and therefore would really not make fool of himself again.
Imran khan proved to be a disaster so is Sohail going.....

Update: Imam-ul-Haq has been declared fit to bat by the team doctor.

The left-handed batsman took part in warm-up session prior to the start of the second day's play.

PCB Whites' Imam was hit on his left-hand while batting against PCB Greens' Naseem Shah on day-one of the match - Friday.

Sohail has always been more of a wicket taling option than Imran, and Imran if I remember had only one good side match, whilst Sohail has had all matches good or fair. Sohail also has bowled well in England b4 and taken wickets. It is another matter with three established pacers there will not be a place to fit him especially if Pak only go for 4 bowler option.

Update from Derby: Rain has stopped, outfield is wet due to rain. No play expected till lunch.

Pakistan have been frustrated by the weather on the second day of the intra-squad match at the Incora County Ground, Derby.

A torrential storm 15 minutes before the scheduled 11am start left large pools of surface water on the outfield and prevented any play before lunch.

The umpires will inspect after the interval but more showers are forecast throughout the afternoon which could further disrupt the tourists preparations in the final warm-up game before the First Test Match at Emirates Old Trafford.

The position in the game is that Team White are 88 for 3, 25 behind Team Green who were bowled out for 113 on the first day with experienced paceman Sohail Khan taking 5 for 37.

I would say rain delays are also part of preparation for tests in England.

There will be an inspection at 2.30, the pitch is very wet according to the umpires.

I live in derby it's very cloudy but not raining at all for the last couple hours

Nice one bhai. I looked on google to see the weather and it says it’ll be cloudy for the remainder of the day, good weather tomorrow and last day might be a washout

Yes bro may get 1 session in today if it doesnt rain again

Pakistan have been denied valuable practice after rain washed out the first two sessions of the second day of the intra-squad match at the Incora County Ground, Derby.

Torrential rain shortly before the scheduled start prevented any play before lunch and despite extensive mopping-up work by the groundstaff, the outfield was too wet for any play in the afternoon.

The umpires have decided to take an early tea at 3.10pm with another inspection planned immediately after although more rain is forecast for the Derby area later this afternoon.

At least there was some encouraging news for the tourists with opening batsman Imam Ul-Haq cleared fit to bat when the match eventually resumes.

Imam was struck painfully on the left hand by 17-year-old fast bowler Naseem Shah yesterday and had to retire but he took part in a warm-up session this morning and has been passed fit by the team doctor.

Will be interesting to see how Fawad Alam does on this pitch. If he manages a big score here Misbah will have another luxury problem.

To be honest what he’s doing right now is exactly how you should be playing the dukes ball. You have to start slow and as the ball gets older then you can cash in unlike the kookaburra.

Anyways boooo rain

It's raining once again. During the 7 overs of play, Sarfaraz was put down at first slip off Abbas' bowling.

Nice to see that all facets of our game are coming together nicely - Batsmen struggling against the back up bowlers, fielders regularly dropping catches and grandad Sohail being the star bowler :))

Add to that England are finding their form. We may be in for historically disastrous series

Pakistan’s preparations for the Test series against England have been badly hit by rain on the second day of the intra-squad match at the Incora County Ground, Derby.

Only 35 minutes play was possible after a downpour shortly before the scheduled start washed out the first two sessions.

Umpires Steve O'Shaughnessy and Alex Wharf decided play could begin at 4pm but after seven overs, more heavy rain set in with Team White 108 for 3 in reply to Team Green’s 113.

This is the tourists final scheduled warm-up match and with the First Test starting at Emirates Old Trafford on August 5th, the loss of virtually all day two is a blow.

At least there was some good news with opener Imam ul Haq cleared of any serious injury after he was forced to retire hurt on the previous evening.

He was struck on the left hand by a ball from Naseem Shah but was able to take part in a warm-up session in the morning and will resume his innings on day three.

Imam might have been back in the middle immediately after play finally got underway but a catch went down off the first ball.

Sarfaraz Ahmed edged Mohammad Abbas to first slip but a routine chance was fumbled and Team White added 20 runs before another downpour ended play.

Five of those came in wides when Naseem speared his first ball way down the leg-side and his second went away for four leg byes.

The 17-year-old, who is expected to play at Manchester, adjusted his radar after that and Sarfaraz and Fawad Alam had to work hard for every run before the weather ended what promised to be an intriguing final session.

With two days remaining in the game, the tourists will want the batsmen who are expected to play in the First Test to spend time in the middle after they failed in Team Green’s first innings.

Abid Ali, Shan Masood and captain Azhar Ali were all dismissed in single figures by experienced pace bowler Sohail Khan who took 5 for 37 in 16 overs.

Only Babar Azam batted for any length of time on the same pitch that was used for the first warm-up match, facing 77 balls for his 32.

At least the outlook is better for tomorrow (Sunday) which is set to be mainly dry but more rain is forecast to arrive on Monday.

I’m baffled by the idea of picking a 35 year old Fawad Alam at Number 6.

If they are in such a defensive mindset that they want an extra batsman, why not take the gloves off Rizwan and promote him above Shafiq to Number 5, and recall Sarfraz Ahmed at Number 7?

Sarfraz on current form is no better than Fawad. Shadab or Fakhar would have a more chance at 7.
It seems today is the only day this match can be played as tomorrow will be a very rainy day. They should continue playing beyond allocated 4 days as its not a first class game.

This is how it should be played, I’d rather have a batsman take their time rather than make nothing and get out. The pacers will always be in business with the dukes ball, you need to let the ball get older and then cash in.

Abbas has bowled 27 of the 60 overs so far with immaculate discipline - I think, his spot is confirmed; mean it’s Naseem or/and Sohail. Yasir hasn’t bowled since day 1 - must be fitness issues.

Shadab hasn’t bowled either though.

So in this game:

Faheem 12-5-16-2
Abbas 28-11-42-0
Sohail 16-4-37-5

I’m more worried about Mohammad Abbas than you. Fourteen wickets have fallen for 257 runs.

And Abbas has bowled 168 deliveries without taking a wicket!

So Fawad Alam has scored 1 run in the last 11 overs.

And Mohammad Abbas is wicketless in 29 overs in a low scoring match.

Brother it’s not all about bashing. You’ve gotta take your time in England just go look at the SRs of the current England XI against WI
I grew up in England.

The Duke's ball moves for a long time. You have to at least take singles, because wickets can fall in a heap.

Abbas couldn’t buy a wicket in Australia or South Africa either.

On the basis of this match I would seriously consider shortening the tail by picking:

6. Rizwan
7. Shadab
8. Faheem
9. Sohail or Amir
10. Shaheen
11. Naseem

Dropping Abbas means only having two Number 11’s instead of three!

Yep but look what happened in the first innings against a trundler like sohail Khan. You can’t just give your wicket away for free, you have to have someone who will grind hard for runs.

Bowlers will get tired and frustrated after a while

What was Dom Sibley's SR for his hundred in the last Test ?

Sibley scored a hundred.

Fawad scored 15 runs in 25 overs today, then got out. He’s probably sunk below Imam-ul-Haq in the queue now.

This is Misbah batting at both ends for all 11 players for both teams.

Zero scoring rate, prize your wicket and all that.

Pakistani batsmen will take the field with defense first, sorry defense-only mindset which will be a recipe for disaster - because not everyone's game is built upon Misbah's.

Junaids Faheem clearly can’t bat. Assuming Amir refuses to play, would you play Sohail over Faheem at 8 now after Shadab at 7?

Why isn't abbas getting wickets, he has the quality to do so? Can't understand.
He lost his nip before the South Africa tour 18 months ago.

He was never quick, but he used to be medium-fast and now he is military medium.

I watched him at Adelaide and he was accurate but very very easy to bat against.

Number 8 worries me - you can’t pick Faheem or Yasir or Sohail that high.

I’m currently thinking

6 Rizwan
7 Shadab
8 Amir
9 Sohail
10 Shaheen
11 Naseem

Fawad Alam.... 43 runs 150 balls, 28 Strike rate..
In eleven overs he scored 1 run
So goodbye you are not suited for no. 6 position.

Faheem 2 wickets in 72 balls
Shaheen 2 wickets in 84 balls
Naseem 1 wicket in 90 balls
Sohail 5 wickets in 96 balls
Abbas 1 wicket in 180 balls.

Abbas looks unselectable to me.

Markhor Fawad will be in the final XI by the final Test at the very least

Looks good on paper but theoretically Amir and Sohail can both break down by the second innings — that won’t be pretty

Pakistan absolutely need 4 pace bowling options in England, it seems Sohail will play without a doubt; so Pakistan will either play all Shah, Abbas, Naseem and Sohail or one of those blokes will be replaced by Faheem. The predictable selection though will probably be 3 pacers and a spinner :salute

Philander used to be around the same speed and would get wickets even during his end period of the career. But it might be the reason as well.

People criticising Fawad need to be aware that bad weather means not easyto bat, coming on and off. Also Fawadis trying to puthis case forward by staying in as li g as he can. Strike rates of Sarfraz was lowish as well he usually bats at a good strike rate.

It is useless to play yasir, we should go with iftikar or imam and 4 fast bowlers.

For me Sohail gets ahead of Abbass for wicket taking ability, but itwould mean we would haveno bowler who can contain England batsmen if they survive long.

Naseem 1 wicket in 90 balls

Your every argument is to some how make a space for your two stooges - Shadab & Faheem, which unfortunately somehow always comes to my radar. Honestly, in two hours first time browsing PP and it popped up like a flash light.

What about Abbas 53 runs in 30 overs with 11 maidens - I guess this time Strike rate fits the bill. Also, what about Faheem Ashesf’s 0 (1) and Shadab Khan not being given a single over out of 67 bowled so far?

Kashif bahtti, asif ali, faheem ashraf, iftikar ahmed etc. Has misbah been doing virat kohli/dhoni,that is if you are in my ipl team, you are in my Indian team.

So this is the Misbah strategy - block 70 overs straight for 160 runs and lose 6 wickets in the process? A proper winning formula.

Faheem 2 wickets in 72 balls
Shaheen 2 wickets in 84 balls
Naseem 1 wicket in 90 balls
Sohail 5 wickets in 96 balls
Abbas 1 wicket in 180 balls.

Faheem can't bat anyway and Abbas is the superior bowler, Pak may as well go with Shah, Naseem, Sohail and Abbas. Then in the ideal scenario if Shadab was capable of doing his bit with the ball to exploit favourable conditions then he could bat at no.7

Exactly, he got going just before he got out. He batted well in my eyes. In English conditions it's not easy to bat and in my eyes he's done well.

Yea Iftikhar i wanna see his dismissal, he got stumped. He's not a test player in my eyes, you'll have another walking wicket with him

There is anyway not anybody getting runs to be at that spot.

Fawad has us in this place, we had him in England to fill this one batting spot. He has pretty spoiled it for management.

Then only opton is to get imam in and drop other down by 1.

It is useless to play yasir, we should go with iftikar or imam and 4 fast bowlers.

Ifthikar I think has scored more runs then Yasir, Shadab and Faheem in the practice games thus far although hasn't bowled a lot, if he can at the very least hold an end he could get in. Not sure how effective Imam is with the ball, Fakhar apparently can roll his arm as well but again not sure of his effectiveness, at the FC level Ifthikar has a reasonable record, might be the only option for Pak in the circumstances potentially.

Shah
Sohail
Abbas
Naseem
Ifthikar
