2nd 4-Day practice game between PCB Green & PCB White ends in a draw

Faheem 2 wickets in 72 balls
Shaheen 2 wickets in 84 balls
Naseem 1 wicket in 90 balls
Sohail 5 wickets in 96 balls
Abbas 1 wicket in 180 balls.

Abbas looks unselectable to me.

Abbas is absolutely fine mate, especially in a 5 man attack (which I feel is a must)

England hate being tied down(root stokes pole butler)

In this match:

Mohammad Abbas v the reserve batsmen
30-11-53-1

Faheem Ashraf v the top batsmen
14.2-5-20-3

I’m really struggling to see how Abbas is selectable. He was great until two years ago, but he’s been terrible since mid-2018.

Faheem 2 wickets in 72 balls
Shaheen 2 wickets in 84 balls
Naseem 1 wicket in 90 balls
Sohail 5 wickets in 96 balls
Abbas 1 wicket in 180 balls.

Sir, this is from the Match Report

After losing all but seven overs of day two, it was a relief for the tourists to see patches of blue sky over the ground when play began on time with Mohammad Abbas embarking on an unbroken spell of 12 overs.

The former Leicestershire fast bowler gave an object lesson in control with his relentless accuracy contributing to the success of Naseem and Afridi.

His one success came when Alam, who is a candidate for next week’s opening Test, was beaten by a full length swinging delivery that plucked out middle stump.

Abbas was certainly the pick of the attack with Naseem and Afridi both struggling with their line at times although they were better after lunch when the innings quickly folded.

It's a shame that you think Abbas is unselectable but thankfully you won't be able to select the team

Tbh there is not much between Imam and Fawad both grinding batsmen and even in tvis match performed similarly.

Everyone was consistent in the SR dept more or less. No 50s which is shocking. Still think Fawad merits a go, you sometimes need a grinding batsman in my view. Iftikhar’s dismissal was just plain stupidity and impatience something that isn’t needed.

I agree and I would opt for Fawad, he is someone who would play a substantial inning after grinding as oppose to Iftikhar and Imam, who normally throw away after hard work as they often done.

Pakistan’s final day of the second intra-squad match at the Incora County Ground in Derby has been hit by the wet weather.

Rain in the morning prevented any play before lunch and prospects are not encouraging for the final two sessions.

It is the tourists' last scheduled warm-up game before the first Test against England at Emirates Old Trafford a week on Wednesday (August 5).

The position in the game is that Team Green are 133 for three in their second innings, 48 runs ahead of Team White who were bowled out for 198 yesterday.

With further showers forecast this afternoon, it could be the last action in the game which would deprive leading batsman Babar Azam, who is unbeaten on 25, the chance of playing a substantial innings ahead of the international series.

Ground currently very wet. Umpires will inspect again at 2.30 pm local time.

Match drawn.

They don’t relocate to Old Trafford until Wednesday. The umpires leave this evening, but there’s nothing to stop further match practice tomorrow.

Derby, 27 July 2020: The four-day intra-squad first-class practice match between PCB Greens and PCB Whites ended in draw at The Incora County Ground, Derby on Monday, as the fourth and final day was washed out without a ball being bowled, due to rain and wet outfield.

Earlier, the second day’s play was also disrupted due to rain and only seven overs were bowled in the day.

PCB Greens ended day three at 133 for three in 48 overs, leading by 48 runs with seven second innings wickets remaining.

Team Green had won the first four-day match at the same venue by six wickets.

The players will now undergo practice sessions on 29 and 30 July at Derby, before departing for Manchester to feature in the first Test match against England starting from 5 August at Old Trafford, Manchester.

Scores in brief:

PCB Greens 113 all-out, 47.1 overs (Babar Azam 32; Sohail Khan 5-37, Faheem Ashraf 2-16) and 133-3, 48 overs (Shan Masood 49, Azhar Ali 28, Babar Azam 25 not out)

PCB Whites 198 all-out, 78.3 overs (Fawad Alam 43, Imam ul Haq 41 not out, Sarfaraz Ahmed 26, Fakhar Zaman 22; Naseem Shah 4-52, Shaheen Shah Afridi 3-47)

Result: Match drawn

Pakistan were denied the opportunity of some final match practice ahead of next month's three-Test series against England after the final day of their intra-squad warm-up match in Derby was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Most significantly Pakistan's front-line batsmen missed the chance for one final hit out after failing on the first day at the Incora County Ground.

Team Green, which featured 10 of the 11 players who appeared in their most recent Test, were skittled for just 113 on the opening day and were unable to progress beyond 133 for three in their second innings due to the weather.

Persistent rain in the morning prevented any play before lunch and more showers in the afternoon forced the umpires to call the game off at 2.45pm.

Team selection for the second and final warm-up match of the tour perhaps provided an insight into the Pakistan management's intentions ahead of the first Test at Emirates Old Trafford in nine days' time.

The Team Green XI was missing only Haris Sohail, who opted not to tour due to concerns over travelling during the pandemic, from the team that defeated Bangladesh by an inning at Rawalpindi in February.

But the poor weather and a tough opening morning for the Pakistan batsmen may have opened the door for those looking to force their way in.

Opener Abid Ali failed in both innings and although Shan Masood scored 49 for Team Green yesterday, he was dropped twice.
Masood was, however, a centurion in that most recent Test win over Bangladesh with Abid Ali arguably the least secure of the incumbent openers after he also missed out on time in the middle during the first warm-up match after being struck on the helmet while fielding close to the bat.

But even his possible replacement, Imam-ul-Haq, missed time in this match after suffering a hand injury before returning yesterday to finished unbeaten on 41. Fakhar Zaman made 22 in his only opportunity after a polished 99 in the first warm-up match.

Captain Azhar Ali and Mohammad Rizwan made centuries in the opening match while Asad Shafiq showed his class with back-to-back half-centuries.

Babar Azam also reached fifty in the opening match - he was due to resume this morning alongside Shafiq - to ensure the engine room in Pakistan's batting line-up has at least enjoyed a good chunk of time in the middle despite their frustrations in this match.

The pace attack which is expected to play at Manchester looked in good shape with former Leicestershire bowler Mohammad Abbas impressing along with left-armer Shaheen Afridi and 17-year-old Naseem Shah.

Naseem and Afridi shared seven wickets to bowl out Team White while Sohail Khan pressed his claims with a five-wicket haul on the first day.

The squad is now due to have training sessions on Wednesday and Thursday before leaving Derby, which has been their bio-secure base for the past two weeks, for Manchester on Saturday, August 1.

Hard to imagine a spinner being selected for the 1st test after this practice game. Lead spinners bowled a combined 5 overs out of a total of 173 overs. Not to mentioned the abysmal form Shadab and Yasir are generally in

They should quickly organise another 2 day match.

They should quickly organise another 2 day match.

Even if they do a 1 innings /1 day - 100 over innings with the predicted top 7 batting against all the bowlers, it would be decent practise. The batsmen definitely need a run and the main bowlers can bowl 50% while the reserve can cover the rest.

The key is to do it as a game where losing your wicket counts - rather than just a net session or scenario based game.

A lot of hoopla created over Fawads SR for nothing really. Anybody whos been following the current Eng Vs WI series wouldve noticed that teams are only scoring at around 2 to 2.5 rrp in the first sessions with the new ball.. Even the Eng side with all those attacking batsmen. They make up for it later once the Duke ball becomes 30 odd over old.
With our abysmal batting line up and rich recebt history of <200 scores in first innings, SRs should be the last thing we ought to be worrying about.
