"4-1 was a flattering score line for England (in the Test series vs India)" : Sanjay Manjrekar

Vaughan lost this one so badly. Nonsensical to drop Broad and open the bowling with Curran. Regardless of the final result, allowing Holder to hit a blazing 200 is unforgivable. I know he’s talented but 200 is a big deal in the sport.

Curran averaged 38 with the bat and 23 will the ball in the India series.

not really. winning the toss help England win. they got extremely lucky. he isn't wrong. had india won the toss it could very well have been 4-1 to india.

pakistam will give them a phainta again anyway.

Not really, winning or losing the toss had nothing to do with India's inability to finish England's tail off, England were not even 100% on form in that series and still the scoreline read 4-1

I am sure you didn't watch that series.
The only problem this indian team has is chasing in 4th innings, we have won all matches except one when we batted first in this overseas cycle.
We don't have a vvs laxman in there to help us in 4th innings.
Yes some of our batters are not good against seam but that is adjusted by the fact that even other teams have only one or two batsman who can hold their own against seam/swing.

Problems weren't just in batting only. The amount of hype Bumrah, Shami, Bhuvenshwar, Pandya, Ashwin get for being a world class bowling attack, there was no excuse for them to continously let England recover to more than par totals after getting the first 5 wickets early

We don't expect more from our bowling they did a good job.
Compare this to how our bowlong attack got shredded in 2011.

Lol, you don't expect your bowlers to wrap up the final 2-3 wickets quickly and conceede 200 runs for them ?

To be honest Batting in England is a lot tougher than bowling, the bowlers failing to finish the tail and allowing England to consistently post 300 plus is what put pressure on the batting line up

Bear in mind that the England batting line facing the Indians in 2011 was formidable - Strauss, Cook, Trott, KP, Bell, Collingwood, Prior - while that of 2018 is arguably the weakest in England’s history.

toss made the difference. Yes india should have done better but kohli dint pick pujara and then bhuvi was Injured. bhuvi suits english conditions perfectly. Not to mention india had walking wickets like vijay and Rahul. Shaw and Mayank should have always started but kohli is biased towards his buddies. In the end the better team dint win in my opinion. The conditions made the difference. Test cricket needs to sort that out. Both teams don't get to bat on the same surface. It's a joke.

2011 english team was one of the best well rounded teams I have ever seen. They did beat india when the players were on the decline however beating india in India is a phenomenal achievement regardless. Funnily enough panesar and swan won them the game.

I would have liked to see the 2011/12 English team vs 2005-07 English team. I will give a slight edge to 2005 cause they beat the Aussies.

2005 team beat the Aussies due to pitches. That same team got manhandled against Pakistan.

2012 team was better. they won in Australia and India.

So the toss made the difference, but conditions made the difference, but injuries and bad selections made the difference? Surfaces change during a test match, that’s why it’s a test.

India believed their own hype and got found out.

Compare to India 1986, who beat an England with Gooch, Gower and Gatting 2-0 in England. Good leadership and excellent batting by a bunch of players who knew how to play in England.

What, the pitches that the 2005 Aussies had all played on loads of times before?

England won because their pace bowling attack was stronger than Australia’s, and because they had momentum from playing highly aggressive and confident cricket and winning consistently for the previous 18 months under the excellent skipper Vaughan.

Yeah - the pace bowling was as good in 2011 and could get exposed when it didn’t swing, but the batters piled up so many runs so fast that the oppo crumbed under scoreboard pressure.

Swann should have played in 2005 but Fletch didn’t like him.

in England toss really does make a difference. I get that test cricket will assess your ability to perform under various conditions but losing the toss 4 times is just terrible luck. india have not lost a single test match when they have won the toss under kohli. I do get your point though and india should have done better as they were in winning positions quite often during the series.
However curran stepped up when it mattered. Quite an impressive effort. single handedly won England the series.

Poor selection from kohli cost india but I guess it is what it is. if you call yourself the best team then you should win in any given condition. India failed to do so.

yea I like the 05 one better hey. Although that batting depth of 11/12 for subcontinent conditions was insane.
