The Asad Shafiq one also, how was that left out?
Probably because it was meaningless to the overall result. Plus it was a truly unbelievable knock by Pakistani standards but unspectacular under a general parameter.
Any mention of Pakistan on the list would do a significant injustice to how embarrassingly bad we've been on Australia soil. We don't deserve to be anywhere near it and i'm glad there's no pandering here.
Laxman's 167 was scored in 1999.
Don't agree with a lot of this. The pre-day night Adelaide ones are worthless, those pitches were ridiculously flat. The knocks I believe are overrated are:
Ponting 257
Dravid 233
Sachin 241
Lara 226
KP 227
Cook 235. Not even the best innings from that match, the pitch good so flat
Underrated/Absent
Pujara, Kohli 123
Warner 123
Smith 141
Khawaja 140
VVS 167, one of the best displays of pure batting talent
Sanga 192
Last paragraph is irrelevant. You have a man on a mission trying to chase 489 in the 4th innings, and he was well on course to actually chase it down. Had Pakistan chased this score down with the help of Shafiq’s ton, it would go down as the greatest knock in cricket history let alone one of the best knocks played in Australia.
India, England and South Africa tour most frequently to Australia, that too makes a difference in these lists. Eng weren't good there except in 2010-11, so not represented well. SA was always good but their bowling had a big role. India competed mainly due to batting.
Will be interesting to see the top 20 bowling spells in Australia, I will include only 2 from India then, Agarkar's Adelaide 6fer and Kumble's 8fer in SCG (12 in match), both came against Australia's best batting line up unlike 2018. Ishant had a dream spell in 2008 but wickets column was underwhelming.
Tendulkar's 241 is one of the greatest test knocks ever played in context of it being in a series decider and him being completely out of form/unlucky going into that test match having vowed not to play a cover drive at all. It's an unbelievable display of perseverance from someone already acknowledged as one of the very best cricketers ever. It's a knock that kind of defines Tendulkar's legacy as a test cricketer. A player who mixed freakish talent with discipline and perseverance for 24 years of service to Cricket having played with 3 generations of cricketers
It was one of the borest innings, his 116 at MCG with great bowling attack was much better.
By the way, am i the only one here who feels Ganguly's Brisbane century in 2003 first test was the best by Indian batters during that series in terms of quality and impact. Probably the best Ganguly test century
Quality- Yes
Impact- No
Impact wise, it's Rahul Dravid 233 at Adelaide coming to bat at 70-4.
It was Ganguly's best test inning ever.
Some more good knocks
Kane Williamson 140 at Gabba
Chris Gayle 102 at Perth(it was one of fastest century)
Graeme Smith 108 at Perth while chasing
Michael Vaughan 183 at Sydney
Can we have poster's lists for England, South Africa and India as well? Will be an interesting read! We can limit it to just 10 knocks.
Pretty sure India and England lists will have a few Pakistani knocks there. We generally do well in these two countries.
Will do one for India. Some knocks I think of are
Laxman Kolkata 2001
KP Mumbai Knock 2012
Younis 270 Bangalore 2005
Amla 253 at Kolkata 2010
Sachin Chennai 1999
Sehwag Chennai 2008
There will be more, these are just top of my head. Let's see how many non Indians can be considered.
How can you forget your favourite player scoring 217 at Ahmedabad?
The highest score in Aus by a touring batsmen didn't even make the list.India, England, South Africa apart from Australia - the only 3 countries that did anything good on Australian soil. Not surprised.
None of the other test nations have done anything remotely well down under.
