Quite proud of the boys.

4 South Africans also in the list. Congratulations to South African cricket also, they also took away #1 spot. Well done brothers.

The list makes sense. Du Plessis marathon innings to save the Test was really special.

Even Cook once batted on last two days to save a Test, guess that's the innings on Number 16.

Dravids innings is also rated correctly at Number 3

India, England, South Africa apart from Australia - the only 3 countries that did anything good on Australian soil. Not surprised.

None of the other test nations have done anything remotely well down under.

Can we have poster's lists for England, South Africa and India as well? Will be an interesting read! We can limit it to just 10 knocks.

Pretty sure India and England lists will have a few Pakistani knocks there. We generally do well in these two countries.

Du Plessis inning deserved no.1 spot. What a legendary knock by the debutant!

Because of that knock from this young little guy, I couldn't even celebrate AB's 33(220) on the same day.

IMO the Salman Butt hundred deserves a mention but I guess I don’t mind if it isn’t.

Most of the knocks were on the Adelaide.
I found some of the knocks better than on that list

137 Asad Shafiq at Gabba 2016.
104 Quinton De cock at Hobart 2016 where Australia were bowled out at 85,it was difficult pitch
151 Sehwag at Adelaide 2008 match saving knock

Don't agree with a lot of this. The pre-day night Adelaide ones are worthless, those pitches were ridiculously flat. The knocks I believe are overrated are:
Ponting 257
Dravid 233
Sachin 241
Lara 226
KP 227
Cook 235. Not even the best innings from that match, the pitch good so flat

Underrated/Absent

Pujara, Kohli 123
Warner 123
Smith 141
Khawaja 140
VVS 167, one of the best displays of pure batting talent
Sanga 192

Even if India traditionally don't get wins in Australia, the Indian batters still play some good knocks over the series.

On a second look, seems to be a lot of pandering to the Indian audience. Quite a trend these days in Australian cricket

The Asad Shafiq one also, how was that left out?

Probably because it was meaningless to the overall result. Plus it was a truly unbelievable knock by Pakistani standards but unspectacular under a general parameter.

Any mention of Pakistan on the list would do a significant injustice to how embarrassingly bad we've been on Australia soil. We don't deserve to be anywhere near it and i'm glad there's no pandering here.

India, England and South Africa tour most frequently to Australia, that too makes a difference in these lists. Eng weren't good there except in 2010-11, so not represented well. SA was always good but their bowling had a big role. India competed mainly due to batting.

Will be interesting to see the top 20 bowling spells in Australia, I will include only 2 from India then, Agarkar's Adelaide 6fer and Kumble's 8fer in SCG (12 in match), both came against Australia's best batting line up unlike 2018. Ishant had a dream spell in 2008 but wickets column was underwhelming.

Last paragraph is irrelevant. You have a man on a mission trying to chase 489 in the 4th innings, and he was well on course to actually chase it down. Had Pakistan chased this score down with the help of Shafiq’s ton, it would go down as the greatest knock in cricket history let alone one of the best knocks played in Australia.

Agreed fully and had same thoughts. Bit weird numbering of knocks.

From India's perspective, Kohli's Adelaide effort is too low, it's an ATG level knock. Definitely should have been Too 5 at least if not Too 3.

Personally speaking VVS Laxman's 160 something at Sydney in 2000 is the best knock played by an Indian in Australia in this century. What an unbelievable display of strokes against a Brett Lee aided film strength Aussie attack atthe peak of its powers.

I agree brother. I think if you have to put Sangakkara 190 something at #7 then Shafiqs knock had to be Top 20 at the very least.

Quite an odd list anyway.

Tendulkar's 241 is one of the greatest test knocks ever played in context of it being in a series decider and him being completely out of form/unlucky going into that test match having vowed not to play a cover drive at all. It's an unbelievable display of perseverance from someone already acknowledged as one of the very best cricketers ever. It's a knock that kind of defines Tendulkar's legacy as a test cricketer. A player who mixed freakish talent with discipline and perseverance for 24 years of service to Cricket having played with 3 generations of cricketers

Quite sure Bumrah makes that list.

It was one of the borest innings, his 116 at MCG with great bowling attack was much better.

You mean Michael Hussey in the same match? Definitely way better knock

Although we did love seeing Mitchel Johnson getting whacked to all corners :yk

Wish Rahane could match 60% of the batsmenship that VVS had. He was so special.

1999 Sydney
2003 Adelaide
2003 Sydney
2007 Perth
2007 Sydney

It's test cricket not T20 slogfest. Even the #1 knock on this list is all about a blockathon.

Surprised no Kallis, probably his best knock in Australia at MCG was in 1997.

All the 3 Aussie triple hundreds hit in this century have been omitted from this list.

Quite a shame on the bowling attacks that received those phainty. They were so god awful bad CA did not even consider knocks against then worthy enough.

Just realized Australian batsman only have 6 entries in this list. What a remarkable achievement for Indian cricket to have as many knocks as Aussies in this list.

Ideally they should have separated Aussie and Non Aussie knocks though.

By the way, am i the only one here who feels Ganguly's Brisbane century in 2003 first test was the best by Indian batters during that series in terms of quality and impact. Probably the best Ganguly test century

Quality- Yes
Impact- No

Impact wise, it's Rahul Dravid 233 at Adelaide playing that knock after India were 70-4.

Brisbane 2003 was Ganguly's best test inning ever.

That one knock by Ganguly laid the foundation for the rest of batting performances in that series.

Very important knock by the captain in the first test itself . It made a huge statement that Indians meant business.

Some more good knocks
Kane Williamson 140 at Gabba
Chris Gayle 102 at Perth(it was one of fastest century)
Graeme Smith 108 at Perth while chasing
Michael Vaughan 183 at Sydney

Murali Vijay 144 at Gabba is underrated.

Duminy innings should have been at 1. iirc, He wasn't the first choice and played the match only because Prince was unfit, then SA were 160/6 something and Duminy batted with tail. His paetnership with Steyn helped SA to score 400+.

Will do one for India. Some knocks I think of are

Laxman Kolkata 2001
KP Mumbai Knock 2012
Younis 270 Bangalore 2005
Amla 253 at Kolkata 2010
Sachin Chennai 1999
Sehwag Chennai 2008

There will be more, these are just top of my head. Let's see how many non Indians can be considered.

How can you forget your favourite player scoring 217 at Ahmedabad?

Very good inning but not among the best. That Delhi 2015 Blockathan would have been special if he had saved the test.

Rishabh pant only Asian Wicketkeeper batsman to score Test Century in Australia

(159* at Sydney)

Highest Test Score by Asian Opener in Australia

Ravi Shastri - 206
Azhar Ali - 205*
Sehwag - 195
Gavaskar - 172
Laxman - 167

Ross Taylor's 290 @ Perth and Kane's knock at the Gabba should be there.

The highest score in Aus by a touring batsmen didn't even make the list.

Ah I see. Taylor did deserve a mention regardless of pitch conditions. 290 at Gabba by a touring batsman is no mean achievement. Aussies generally bury their opponents there.

Very interesting list! The ones you mentioned are indeed iconic - especially Laxman at Kolkata and KP at Mumbai.
