I was watching an old clip of new chief selector Muhammad Wasim and this is what he said:

6 players he believes are ready for Pakistan are:

Khushdil
Saud
Rizwan Hussain
Ali Imran
Hasan Mohsin
Nabi Gul

These are his thoughts regarding each one of them:

1) Khushdil Shah. He scored 3 centuries in a row in domestic. Can hit sixes effortlessly through midwicket and straight. Plays spin very well and uses his feet well. His base is very strong and he can hit sixes stood in the crease. Great power hitter. Can keep wicket and can bowl

2) Saud Shakeel. According to Wasim hes best batsman in domestic including old and new players. (Must rate him on par with Babar)
Technically correct, good square of wicket, cover drive, cut shot, midwicket. Cant hit sixes but makes up for it with boundaries. Good fielder and left arm spinner too. Wasim unhappy he was taken on a tour as a number 3 but was put lower down the order.

3) Rizwan Hussain as opener. Young and strongly built. Can hit sixes. Plays with aggressive mindset and better technically than fakhar. Can take advantage of power play

4) Nabi Gul. Plays fearless and is young. Whenever wasim watches him hes impressed. Can hit sixes and finish a match. Very powerful. Needs minor adjustments in batting but players like him are needed in a lineup ( who are dimagh say tagry)

5) Hasan Mohsin. Best modern batter in Pakistan 🇵🇰. Great improviser. Sweeps and reverse sweeps, scoops etc. Can play every shot. Can win matches at the end and score centuries. Fantastic fielder. Bowls beautiful out swing.

6) Ali Imran. Very aggressive and can make use of power play. Can play long innings and score centuries. Bowls in 130s which is more than enough for an all rounder.

He said we need to bring new players and not bring back the ones that have failed in international cricket. From this comment i think he will discard Asad Shafiq.

Wasim says these are ready now. Your thoughts?

I think his opinion might have changed regarding some and some others might have taken their place because, as you said it was an old clip. I dont think Rizwan Hussain, Hassan Mohsin and Nabi Gul are ready currently. When he would have said it, they might have been developing well but as of now they havent done much in domestic cricket.

Still I am pretty sure he will have certain players in mind and hopefully he will do a decent job. However, how team management utilizes his selections is something we will have to wait and watch.

1 year old clip. I can see him selecting Saud immediately and A tours for Hasan Mohsin and a few others. He won't recycle non performers.

Super excited for Mohammad Wasim, lets hope hes allowed to spread his wings.

That's the problem with the Chief selector role: you need to work with the captain/coach regardless of differences in vision.

He will have to compromise in order to keep things stable and cool. In a squad of 21 there will be 16 selections of Misbah/Babar and the rest will be Wasim extra's who will most probably get ignored. Everyone at PP will be bashing Wasim for those 16 Misbah supported players.

Obviously Wasim is still a better choice compared to some other candidates, but I feel his potential is going to be wasted in this ceremonial role. Inzi also would have been more effective as a batting coach.

1. Saud Shakeel
2. Khushdil
3. Ali imran
4. Hammad Azam
5. Mabasir khan
6. Nauman Ali

But he has downside as well as like he backs Azhar Ali like hell always whatever happens as he is his mentor and the other one is Sohail tanveer.

I'd be worried if he still rates Rizwan Hussain.

His comments were an older point in time reflection, back when Rizwan Hussain actually seemed like a promising young player. The Rizwan Hussain we see today has greatly stagnated, and thus wouldn't merit selection.

Wasim, in his opening statement, mentioned that selections would be based on meritocracy. Thus the prior praise for Rizwan Hussain is irrelevant to the here and now

i know its just 1 innings for them both , majorly, but y not throw Mubasir and Danish Aziz in there as well. they might not get games but with --- hang on lol .. realised midway u already have them lol

What's Mohammad Wasim's view on fast-tracking of players into international cricket ?

I hope Wasim will set a clear criteria for national selection and pick proven domestic performers. To be in contention, a batsman must score 900+ runs for two seasons and a bowler should be in top 5 wicket-takers for two seasons IMO.

I think any asian batsman would struggle if their first tour was against New Zealand 🇳🇿 against Boult and Southee etc ..as fans we need to be patient and not over hype after 1 or 2 performances or completely think they are mediocre after a few performances.
PP members think Haider Ali is another Afridi or Umar Akmal. What if India 🇮🇳 thought the same about Rohit?
Similarly after a few innings we expect them to be world class from the 1st tour like Abdullah Shafiq.
I prefer young players to play for Shaheens first or a tour at home. Abdullah hasn't even played under pressure with crowdz or even PSL.

Why would 16 be misbah choice when wasim will choose the squad in which misbah will choose the tesm with the captain isnt that how it works

Also akif javed and dahani

The issue is Misbah will not select any youngsters selected in the squad , instead will go for safety first approach and still plays Wahab riaz and Sohail Khan.

Under Misbah nothing will happen, just keep losing that is what is destined for Pakistan

In cricket the coach and the captain are responsible so every CS will discuss the final squad with these pillars of the setup, be it Inzi or M Wasim. Otherwise conflicts end the partnership early.

So basically coach/captain get their important boys in and the CS is allowed to make a few extra selections of his own.

People expected wonders from Inzi but that's how he worked as well. Like Inzi Wasim will also select a few new players here and there but don't expect all the senior players to be dropped from day 1. It will take time to mold a new team as Misbah will try to save his Azhar's Yasir's.

This.

Misbah will demand his Azhar's, Yasir's of the team. Also if M Wasim selects five new players those players will either get ignored or only get one game in the whole series.

M Wasim could have contributed a lot more as coach/selector of the Potahar/Northern region. There is a bulk of talent coming out of that region which will get wasted now because of the return of Parchi-ism in the side.
