Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that chances of a person recovering from coronavirus were at least 98 per cent.

Addressing a press conference, she said: "The media should also highlight those that have recovered from the virus, so that the panic and fear that has spread among the people can be eradicated."

They must be informed that you can live after contracting the disease because it is not life-threatening, she added.

She's right.
But it depends on many factors.

2% is an average figure. It varies depending on the age of the person and whether or not they have pre-existing medical conditions.

She needs to make this clear.

This 98% is a wrong figure mainly because of China's efficiency in capturing it and then providing adequate facility to all infected to treat it.

Italy has a MUCH higher mortality rate and I'm afraid Pakistan's mortality rate will be closer to Italy's than China's God forbid

Maybe some doc can confirm if true or false

I have doubts over China's figures.

The mortality rate in Italy or china cannot be taken at face value. The mortality rate is higher than what it really is. Since there is a large number of people who only have mild symptoms never get tested for the virus and hence never end up in the data. There is a difference between number of people actually infected by the virus and number of people tested positive.

Most German virologist say that the actual mortality rate is around 1%. Nobody knows what the mortality rate would be it can only be evaluated after the pandemic.

20% of Italy population is above 65.
90% of dead in Italy were over the age of 70

It is an established trend that the young people only have mild symptoms.

5% of Pakistani are 65+

We can't say how bad it will effect Pakistan and it is a big concern since we don't have the best medical resources.

However at this stage we need to encourage people to come forward and get tested and try to limit the panic and fear as much as possible. Yes at the moment majority of the awam might be feeling confident but I am sure those who start to develop fever might get in a shell and try to hide and down play their condition.

I am seeing videos from Iran where people are coughing to death on the streets with noone available to tend to them. The health facilities are super stretched and the hospitals are going to eventually refuse to provide treatments to people 70 plus in favor of younger infected people.
