After the recently concluded test series against Australia, Pakistan retained the same place however they gained few extra points and jumped from 88 to 96 as per ICC Ranking system.

Pakistan currently ranked at No.7 but, can they climbed up and gain higher position in the ranking system?

The answer is a probable yes!

Following are the current and upcoming fixtures during month of October and November 2018:

Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe - 2 match test series

Sri Lanka vs England - 3 match test series

Pakistan vs New Zealand - 3 match test series

Bangladesh vs West Indies - 2 match test series

Looking at the fixtures, the Bangladesh test series against Zimbabwe and West Indies is irrelevant for Pakistan as the result has no impact on their place but Sri Lanka vs England series result will matter.

Besides Pakistan own series against New Zealand will play an important role.

If Pakistan wins 3-0 against New Zealand, they will gain 7 points with 3rd place in the charts even Sri Lanka wins 3-0 against England as well.

However if Pakistan wins the series with 2-0 or 1-0 they will stand at number 5 or 6 respectively.

Series result with 0-0, 0-1,0-2 or 0-3 will not demote Pakistan from No.7 however they will loose significant points.

What are your view, looking at the current Pakistan form what are the chances for Pakistan. Can Pakistan redeem themselves? Discuss.

Pakistan has done far worse against New Zealand in the UAE than other touring sides.

That's because Trent Boult and Southee have always managed to generate movement with the ball in the UAE.

If they're able to do it again, Pakistan CANNOT whitewash them. Our own win will look unlikely.

Winning 3-0 will he difficult.

NZ are a brilliant fielding outfit. Williamson and Latham are good players of spin. Taylor is an experienced player. Also Wattling is a stubborn character and will be an underrated threat. We have had issues against leg spin and NZ have selected Sohdi!

This is a good test for our test team, I am excited for this series. Don't expect us to so much outside of Asia, I'll be happy with competing there for now. But in UAE I want us to beat all teams. All test nations are winning at home yet we are struggling to do that recently. Dropping tests to Sri Lanka and West Indies is unacceptable. Also that draw against Australia was a poor result imo. Need to win this series to show signs of progress in UAE conditions.

Hope we select 2 specialist spinners.

New Zealand are a far better test side than Australia, especially as tourists. Pakistan will have to be at their best to win 3-0.

I could agree no less however its the best chance for Pakistan for redemption.

Sure..

Counter Boult, Southee, Latham, Williamson.

And we can convincingly whitewash them. But, it's hard.

Wagner as well, his numbers are surprisingly well and he'll bowl well in UAE. Kiwis actually might drop Southee if they go for 2 spinners. But, their overall batting is too much Will-Tayl dependent.

Tom Latham has been very good in SC conditions

Would be a shame. This team is unworthy of a top five spot.

He did score a hundred in last tour of UAE. He can do well, but this time PAK has 2 bowlers in Abbas & Bilal for left-handed batsman. I think, if Kiwis bat first, they'll trouble PAK with their swing bowling & fielding.

Haven't seen him bowl, but looks like an interesting prospect.

Pak vs. current Aus team - who's better?

The team has changed since long.

No Misbah, No Younis, No Afridi, No Shezad, No Akmal....different coach, different chief selector and even a different captain.

Full strength Australia would smash Pakistan into smithereens in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, while Pakistan will do better in Asia. It will be very close in England though, but Pakistan will have the edge in the London venues.

We should beat them 3:0 if the pitches are not completely dead. Shah needs to get his mojo back.

If England beat Sri Lanka, would that stop our charge to the top three?
