Our journey for the World Cup T20 did not start in 2022, but it started from the 2021 T20 World Cup.
This journey started with us beating India by 10 wickets. A streak that we finally put an end to, after which we would play some quality cricket with a good squad and reach the semi finals. Eventually in the semi finals we would lose and not win the cup. The lost helped us. It allowed us to remove the weak links and strengthen the squad more. So out went Hassan Ali.
Than came the Asia Cup, we entered this tournament with Shaheen being injured and Naseem Shah being bought in to replace him. While Shaheen was out and being rehabilitated, focus was on Naseem and Waseem jr to step up their game. Naseem finally proved his worth. Mohammad Nawaz would also show up aswell with his batting and bowling. This time, Pakistan would reach a final and lose the final. Again, we would make mistakes and than learn from them.
Eventually, when the team was ready for the World Cup 2022. We had now bought in Shan Masood, Mohammad Harris, Naseem Shah and Mohammad Nawaz. Yet, the right line up was still not being picked. The loss against India and Zimbabwe helped us to change our way of playing. We decided to go with 4 pacers and 2 spinners, Harris was bought in to give us an attacking option on top and Shadab was relied more with the bat. The semi finals we lost was because Babar didnt utilize any other bowler and had to go with a set plan. Today, he had more options and was able to choose his bowlers and change bowling plans accordingly. Thus, this team evolved.
We could had batted better in this final, but oh well. One team had to win and one had to lose
A beautiful journey that Shaheen would start with his inswinging deliveries comes to an end
