I am livid at the awful team selections and strategies used but one aspect has been overlooked in the discussion of this series. When you lose two key players and are transitioning into a new era, you need to be playing as much cricket as possible to settle on a new combination. Yet for THREE months after the Champions Trophy we sat on our backsides doing NOTHING after PCB foolishly and spitefully cancelled the Bangladesh tour without any replacement series.

They then shortened this Sri Lanka series to a 2 Test series so there's no margin for error, one bad day and the series is gone. Our next test assignment is SEVEN months from now in England next May. How can you improve your Test team playing such little Test cricket ?

When you play such little long form cricket, the players' fitness and stamina is also affected. We've seen Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali pull up with injury having not played any FC cricket for five months.

Sethi and the PCB were hell bent on their vanity project which was the World XI series ensuring preparation for this series was shortened and totally inadequate. Someone remind them that the national team is our bread and butter.

Who can forget the drama of the PCB recalling the players from their CPL and T20 Blast stints for "fitness tests" only to U-turn and cancel the National T20. They cram in the World XI series in this time leaving just 13 days to fly out to UAE after the matches in Lahore, adapt to a different format, introduce new players, acclimatise to conditions and prepare for the opposition before the start of the 1st Test.

Only in Pakistan do we repeatedly shoot ourselves in the foot like this.

Performance has been below par

The team selections have been atrocious. It's really simple formula in UAE but our team management has somehow messed that up

Tactics are nonexistent. There was no need to drop azhar to 3 when he has been putting world class numbers as an opener.

Bowlers aren't much asides from Yasir

Senior batsmen such as Shafiq aren't taking responsibility

It's a shambles

Unbelievable that we we loss 3 out of our last 5 matches in UAE despite playing only #7 and #8 ranked teams

The CT win looks more and more like a fluke and we have an epic choke by SL to thank for even progressing beyond the group stage in that tournament

Yes but we're not going to get our new Test team, have the time to develop youngsters and the combination right if we're playing a measly 4 Tests (2 away to Zimbabwe) in the next TEN months !

Apparently we might play Ireland for a one-off Test before England. So that's a grand total of five. Is this really adequate for a top Test playing nation ?

Obviously PCB is to blame there

The problems in the team have been apparent since WI series last year in UAE. But you and everyone had their heads in the sand when I was pointing them out

Inactivity is a bit lame. The players had been on the road for quite a while up to the CT and deserved a break. The team just played badly and got outplayed by a team which was whitewashed very badly in their home country. No excuses

Not saying its the only reason, I give FULL credit to Sri Lanka who've completely shown us up.

But our preparation and lack of Test cricket is wholly inadequate for a side transitioning into a new era needing to blood new players and find the right combination.
