Pakistan has played most T20 intentional (130). Yet no one has managed to century against them and only one Pakistani batsman scored century in T20I.

wonder if Finch or anyone could get 200 in a T20 game!

Pakistan has played most T20 intentional (130). Yet no one has managed to century against them and only one Pakistani batsman scored century in T20I.

Finch ran out of runs in the last game against Pakistan. If Pakistani batsmen had scored, say about 160 instead of 117, Finch would probably have got his century instead of ending on 68*.

WOW. Damn Finch, I was expecting such an assault. Great display of powerhitting in T20I

Amazing hitting
3 batsmen in top 12 who learnt to play in Pakistan yet team Pakistan can't find big hitters from Pakistan

Always thought this guy is a better player than warner. Seems like real finch is back.

Pak should try to get him out early.

Hamilton Masakadza admits there was little his side could have done with the Australian captain hitting out the way he did.

“We've come here to win the series” – Aaron Finch had made his stance quite clear after smashing a 33-ball 68* against Pakistan on Monday to lead his side to a nine-wicket win.

On Tuesday, he backed it up with one of the finest innings seen in recent times in a Twenty20 International. Finch smashed 172 in just 76 deliveries, the highest score in the shortest format of the game, breaking the record he had himself set in 2013 against England.

Finch added 223 runs for the opening wicket with D'Arcy Short (46), which is also the highest partnership in a T20I for any wicket, as Australia piled on 229/2 in their 20 overs. In reply, Zimbabwe were restricted to 129/9, as the visitors romped to a 100-run win.

“Just one of those days where a few things went my way,” said Finch after his record-breaking knock. “The wicket played a lot better than we thought (it would). Good to get a few out of the middle and break a record. Any time you have a day like this, you need to reflect on it. These might not happen often, so it's special.”

Chasing 230 against Australia has was always going to be improbable, and wickets at regular intervals did not help Zimbabwe's cause. Andrew Tye returned figures of 3/12 in his four overs while Ashton Agar chipped in with two wickets.

Finch lauded the effort of his bowlers but admitted the fielding on the whole needed to be a bit more efficient.

“I thought we were a bit sloppy in the field early on,” said Finch. “Zimbabwe came firing on all cylinders and that was expected. But, we could have been more polished in the field. Short (left-arm wrist-spin) showed some skill, so did Agar and (Glenn) Maxwell in the middle overs. Tye was exemplary.”

For Hamilton Masakadza, the Zimbabwe captain, everything that could go wrong on the day did.

“We thought it couldn't get tougher after the first game, it did here,” said a dejected Masakadza. “Credit to him (Finch), he struck it hard from the first ball. Tough to stop a player when he goes like that.”

Having lost both their games, it will be a long road back for the hosts but they will hope to turn things in their favour when they take on Pakistan on the morrow.

“I think we can bowl a bit better first up,” said Masakadza. “We have conceded too many in the Powerplay in both the games. Apart from that, we've done decently. Hopefully, we can turn things around tomorrow against Pakistan.”

The highest individual score in T20Is, the best partnership, and more.

On Monday 2 July, Aaron Finch smashed 68* off 33 balls in the win against Pakistan. But, chasing a small total, Australia needed just about half their overs. Then, on Tuesday against Zimbabwe, with no constraint of a total to chase and all 20 overs ahead of him, Finch upped the belligerence of his batting and tonked the ball to all quarters of the ground – and beyond.

He made 172 off 76 balls, dominating the batting and lifting Australia to 229/2, breaking a slew of records in the process.

His own competition

Finch’s 172 is the highest score in T20Is, breaking the record of 156 set by … Aaron Finch! Not only does he have two hundreds now, he has the top two scores in the format. The previous record had come in 2013 against England in Southampton and he’d taken 63 balls for it.

Player Score Balls Fours Sixes Match
Aaron Finch 172 76 16 10 Aus v Zim, Harare, 3 Jul 2018
Aaron Finch 156 63 11 14 Aus v Eng, Southampton, 29 Aug 2013
Glenn Maxwell 145* 65 14 9 Aus v SL, Pallekele, 6 Sep 2016
Evin Lewis 125* 62 6 12 WI v Ind, Kingston, 9 Jul 2017
Shane Watson 124* 71 10 6 Aus v Ind, Sydney, 31 Jan 2016

This is also the second-highest score in all T20s, behind Chris Gayle’s 175* off 66 balls in the Indian Premier League 2013. Finch, as captain of the opposition, was on the receiving end of that one.

A league of doubles

He is the second Australian after Glenn Maxwell to have two hundreds in the format. He joins Maxwell, Evin Lewis, Martin Guptill, Rohit Sharma, Brendon McCullum, Gayle and Colin Munro as the only batsmen to make two T20I centuries. Of them, Munro is the only one with three to his name.

One-man-show

Finch’s 172 made up 75.11% of Australia's total of 229/2. No other batsman has contributed such a large proportion of his team’s runs in any international match.

The corresponding record for other formats in men's cricket:
Tests – Charles Bannerman's 165* was 67.34% of Australia's 245 against England in 1877 in Melbourne
ODIs – Viv Richards's 189* was 69.48% of the Windies' 272/9 against England in 1984, Manchester.

The silent partner

Finch and D’Arcy Short added 223 for the first wicket. It is the first 200-run stand in T20I cricket.

Players Partnership Wicket Match
Aaron Finch, D’Arcy Short 223 1st Aus v Zim, Harare, 3 Jul 2018
Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson 171* 1st NZ v Pak, Hamilton, 17 Jan 2016
Graeme Smith, Loots Bosman 170 1st SA v Eng, Centurion, 15 Nov 2009

Last month, Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates added 182 for the first wicket in New Zealand Women's T20I against South Africa Women at Taunton. The Australians went ahead of this record as the highest partnership for any wicket in all T20Is, men's or women's.

Short, though, was a bystander to the Finch show. When Finch got his 150, his partner was yet to reach 50.

A leather chase

Finch's innings included 16 fours and 10 sixes. Nobody has hit more boundaries in a T20I innings. In his previous record-breaking effort, he had struck 14 sixes and 11 fours.

A captain's knock

It was Finch's third fifty in a row, and fourth consecutive one as captain.

Leadership seems to sit well with Finch: he averages 64.60 as skipper in 12 matches, as against 47.81 otherwise in T20Is.

Ahan, cuz' cricket works like that, right?

Incredible innings.

When this guy is on song, nothing can stop him.

Such a clean striker of the ball and someone who can hit it to all areas.

Let's see if Pakistan can come up with a plan for him next time around.

I would say Rohit has more chance than Rahul although i like Rahul more than Rohit but i feel the guy rohit has more chances to beat this score.

I was of course referring to the game played yesterday when Rahul matched Buttler's 69 (S/R 150) with a 101* (S/R 187).
