AB de Villiers ruled out of PSL games in Pakistan [Update Post #61]

No way would he risk his back when the IPL is about to start. And we know how rigorous the IPL schedule is. Let’s see if he plays in Pakistan next year.

Not been a great tournament for him was it.

Not the best of form, injury, took over as captain, then passed the captaincy on, then decided he's not going to Karachi.

I suppose the recent turn of events about the war like situation between IND vs PAK might have also changed his mind.

Big money signing. I guess the question is, was he value for money?

Depends on how you define 'value for money'.

For these franchises, it could be just the fact that de Villiers was there to be marketed, rather than the amount of runs garnered.

Was seeing a brief interview of Ramiz, he feels ABD pulled off a Topi and is making excuses.

When he took a leave for 'personal reasons' I was pretty sure that his heart is not in this league. He's a very moody person who will only do something if he feels like it. Clearly did not enjoy his little stint in the PSL I feel

In the professional world, if you don't offer atleast FMV salaries, bonuses if not above, people will jump ship and not be motivated.

What a coincidence. IPL starting exactly in 2 weeks.

All good now - fit and raring to go...

Takes a lot for the normally Politically correct Ramiz Raja to come out in the open and hint that he was unconvinced by ABD's reasons for withdrawing from the PSL.

Its a unfortunate truth that players will priortise the league which will pay more.

What do you expect from someone who retired when ODI world cup was just an year away to play every T20 league?

No offence, he is a good batsmen. But i feel their is better T20 batsmen than him. Even the current SA side has some awesome players. Devillers should enjoy IPL thats what he wants and he decided to retire from SA team, never seen any great SA player did that before retiring 1 yr before the WC. Unfortunately u cant stop them, but seeing all the intl players went to Karachi, will open his mind to come and play in PSL next yr.

No offense but other than that one match vs KK, ABDV looked like another one in a long list of overhyped overseas signings who just couldn't find their feet in PSL like Gayle, Mcculum, Roy, Hales etc etc

Needs to retire with at least 1 IPL. He's never won anything for South Africa.

He definitely struggled. Played at a strike rate that you don't normally get from him. He only played one real great knock in the chase of 200 vs Multan.

Sorry, but a completely overrated player. One of the worst players of his generation. Completely a nobody before limited overs cricket rules changed with bigger bats, shorter boundaries and flat tracks etc.

ABD really hurt his legacy and reputation by retiring the way he did. I think it was a huge blunder on his part. Had he retired after the 2019 WC and continued to play T-20 leagues, no one would have said anything.

i know its controversial to say, and granted im no expert, i just don't see the same passion in white south african cricketers as maybe 10, 15 years ago a la kallis, smith, etc.

steyn and faf are perhaps the only one who id fully imagine playing through fitness issues for south Africa if it meant risking a league contract.

I wonder if he actually really wanted to play in Pakistan during the PSL or was it a false promise to LQ?

He had nothing to lose by being upfront as he had been selected anyways. It may have had something to do with the PSL games being shifted from Lahore to Karachi?

The PSL needs to be shifted to after the IPL.

You're right, but I think they don't want to move after IPL probably due to weather?

The PCB plays its national T-20 and ODI tournaments in Pakistan at that time. Why not do it the other way around where you have the domestic tournaments in Feb and March and have the PSL between Summary and August, September

Stop being babies. He didn't want to travel to Pakistan or he wanted to protect himself for the IPL, we need to get over it. PSL isn't the gold standard for every player. Furthmore it shouldn't be the gold standard our domestic cricket.

There is nothing to get over, but people shouldn't be pushovers where they let people screw them over. If he never had any intentions of coming to Pakistan, why not be upfront about it? Why give your word and lie about it? There is no bigger credibility and integrity killer than going back on your word

Yes he shouldn’t have gone back on his word but we need to get over it. Overseas players still turned up to Pakistan. It looks bad on AB not on the PSL. Whilst I agree with you , you have to understand to the average white man they unfortunately don’t trust that Pakistan is safe.

The fact 20 plus international games being held in Pakistan successfully and incident free after 2015 is now significant proof that the average white man needs to back up his claims about Pakistan not being safe.

We might want to move our window to a different time or continue to have the tournament without many big names.

Paisa Phek - Tamasha Dekh.

This is the motto of these T20 tournaments.

When you have a family, people won't take the risk . You don't need to agree with AB but you should try to understand his reasons instead of labelling him a mercenary.

Reasons dont make sense based on recent empirical evidence. One could understand before 2015 but not now.

He had an injury and he had to head back. Simple as that. Unfortunate for ABD and PSL both. Shouldn't blame ABD for purposely getting injured and going back home.

AB wouldn't risk his participation in IPL, simple choice

Miraculous recovery continues for ABdV, 55 off 33 so far in IPL
