Abdul Razzaq - Pakistan’s best player in high intensity chases? (ODIs)

Both have won a T20 World Cup. Hardik is a much better player than Razzaq in ODI tournaments.
But as usual, some Pakistani fans have a habit of overhyping.

is this the same guy who claimed Bumrah is a baby bowler in front of him? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Yeah no, I’ve seen both pretty closely and Hardik isn’t better than Razzaq.

Management of talent could have been better for obvious reasons in those days but not development of talent, the 90’s set-up was good at throwing new players at the deep end / and having an uncanny ability to address team requirements through utility. Azhar Mahmood, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, etc wouldn’t have much of a career now because they’d either be ostracised constantly / sent to domestic cricket as punishment or used very defensively. The method then was to quickly identify raw talent & giving them full responsibility to bring them up to speed, Razzaq is a good example because by putting him that spot, he understood his ceiling, gained great experience & we developed one fine all rounder and never got close to that again.

Agree.

I feel like Pakistan were selecting and managing players much better in the 90's. There was stability in selections.

Modern day PCB tends to chop and change more. For example, they dropped Hassan Nawaz. Very bad move.

I saw Abdul Razzaq from his debut till his retirement.

He started off as a bowler. After that, Pakistan decided to play him at #3 for some reason. He was batting at #3 in 1999 WC. He was a very slow batter in 1999. He later on improved his hitting and he became the all-rounder he was known for.

His job was to hit well during the final overs and also bowl economical overs.

He was a good utility white ball cricketer.
He started off as a bowler in the Pak team but at age level and otherwise he had been playing as a pure allrounder and performing wonderfully well. I still remember a tour by the England U19 team (featuring the likes of Flintoff and B.Hollioake) where Razzaq singlehandedly held back the English from crushing the Pakistan team. He was a pure allrounder from the start and only got better with time. Had it not been for Pakistan's batting depth, bowling options, and his own laziness he could have achieved much more.

He was a brilliant batter. Could stonewall and go bang bang. His bowling fell away after first 5-6 years.

He was most complete all rounder at one time...proper batsman and bowler.......
No wonder then that he was selected as part of Asia Xi vs Rest of World Xi (the famous Michael Bevan 185 match). Year 2000.

He featured in this lineup:

Sanath
Sachin
Saurav
Aravinda
Ajay
Razzaq
Moin
Wasim
Kumble
Vaas
Murli

Also was trusted to bowl the crucial last over.

Easily in the top 5 best all rounders for Pakistan.
That’s not particularly hard is it?

Its between him and Imran Khan for the top spot. Khan sab looks like the better bowler but not sure if he was the better batsman.

IK
Razzaq
Afridi

These are the 3 best all rounders in Pakistan history.

You could potentially add Wasim Akram in there too but he would know he’s mainly a bowler first.

He was certainly a match winner. His innings against South Africa in 2010 was probably the best by him. One of the all time greatest innings in ODI cricket.

Pandya has barely had a 9 year career, and even that has been plagued by injuries which limit his ability to bowl. He can't even play test cricket because they think he will get injured. Razzaq had a 17 year career where he was at various points one of the best all-rounders in the world.

Razzak has hardly done anything in Test cricket and his numbers are mediocre.

Pandya has been better in tournaments and his overall numbers aren’t any lesser than that of Razzaqs even after considering era difference.

If I had to pick an all-rounder between the two...someone who could deliver in all formats, who had the technique to see off a new-ball and take on the bowling and hit sixes when the situation demanded. Someone who could bowl with the new ball and the old ball, and someone whose body wasn't brittle enough to not be able to handle test cricket, I would pick Abdul Razzaq.

Yes. He was a match-winner with the bat (his peak years) and also with the ball (his earlier days).
