So Razzaq wanted the PCB to cover up fixing in order to save the image of Pakistani cricket. What a stupid thing to admit to.

Karachi: It was only after Pakistan ODI skipper Shahid Afridi slapped Mohammad Amir that the pacer confessed to spot-fixing while Salman Butt was involved in corruption much before Pakistans infamous tour of England in 2010, claimed former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq.

"He (Afridi) told me to leave the room but after a while I heard the sound of a slap and then Amir told the whole truth," Razzaq told GNN news channel.

Razzaq blamed the then Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regime for bringing bad name to the sport in the country.

"I thought instead of going to the ICC to prove its efficiency, the PCB should have instead directly taken the three players to task despite their denials and sent them back home on some pretext. They should have banned them for a year or so. In the end by not doing this, the PCB spoilt the image of Pakistan cricket worldwide."

In 2011, Butt, Amir and Muhammad Asif were banned for a minimum of five years by the ICC's anti-corruption tribunal after they were first suspended in September 2010 for their role in match-fixing.

All three have now returned to playing after completing their five-year suspensions.

Among them, Amir is currently representing Pakistan in the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales.

Razzaq also revealed that Butt was playing dot balls on purpose, much before the scandal broke out in England.

"I shared my concerns with Afridi but he said it is just my Waham (misconception) and nothing is wrong. But when I was batting with Salman Butt during a match of the World T20 in West Indies, I was convinced he was letting down the team.

"I was surprised when he refused this strategy. When I realised what he was up to (something) I told him strictly to give me the strike. Yet every over he deliberately played two or three balls and then gave me strike. I got upset and felt the pressure and got out."

Pakistani ex players should stop talking to media, every time they open their mouth they speak utter rubbish.

Razzaq is right actually. Had the PCB taken action against the players themselves, the ICC would not have had an excuse to step in and the players would have faced a shorter ban and a whole lot of embarrassment could have been avoided.

Btw Amir should have filed a police case for assault. How can you let someone slap you and get away with it?

Good call from Razzaq and he is absolutely correct. PCB should have cleaned house when they had the opportunity. Instead they indirectly connived with these players when they let them play.

Maybe someone needs to do the same with Razzaq to shut him up. He was a good player but like the majority of ex-players born with a microphone up to his mouth.

Both Afridi & Amir have not denied the story so far. There must be reason behind Pakistani team being so consistently inconsistent & losing matches from winning positions so damn consistently. Their entire team & management changed over the decades but dodgy performances continued. Look at their campaigns in major tournaments, they almost every time appear as if someone scripted it.

Just look at the timing they have released this article on.
This statement was making the rounds some time back.
But some sites have posted this today after Amir got his 5fer.So disgusting.

need more slaps from Afridi, one to Salman Butt, one to Kamran Akmal and one to Gambhir

Whats the point of this coming out now during the world cup?

If razzaq had any braincells he wouldve had a better career than he did have If you dont have anything decent to say its better to be quiet

I remember Pakistan's then Ambassador to UK appeared on many interviews to say the whole thing was a conspiracy against Pakistan. He also had the temerity to accuse England team of fixing!

Nobody cares anymore!

He paid the price, rehabilitated and has successfully been integrated back into the game.

These stories are useless now.
