Abid Ali - Opening batsman from Lahore

The guy has waited until his 30s to get a chance, its not as if we have had great openers over the last decade.

Looks good against spinners. Also plays shots all over which is a good sign. The way he bats he resembles M Rizwan.

Looks like a good prospect. Solid footwork, a natural batsman. Should not bat any lower than no.3.

The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final is being streamed on PCB's YouTube channel and Abid Ali is playing for HBL.

We'll have a chance to properly dissect his technique then.

His chances of selection has increased with Hafeez's retirement.

No place for Abid Ali in the Pakistan Test squad.

Masha Allah what a great story. So so happy for him.

Abid's story tells you that even if you dont have connections, have a poor start to your domestic career and not in good books of coaches still you can make your way through hard work. The guy has completed transformed himself as a batsman in last 3-4 years and would be utterly dejected not to be picked for SA but he continued the good work and now rewarded.

Thank you Inzamam, Sarfraz, Selection committe, Mohammad Wasim, other ex-players and especially to pp members that we played our part in raising our voice for the selection of a deserving candidate. Markhor

I'll be honest, when I first heard a guy aged 31 and averaging 37 in FC cricket was picked for A side I thought what a waste of a spot. However it was his outstanding performances for the A team againat good quality bowling attacks that convinced me he was worthy of international selection.

I also learned he's been the best performing opener along with Fakhar Zaman in the last two years of FC cricket with average of 41. Now considering Abid's home pitch is Diamond Ground, Islamabad, the toughest pitch in the counry, that is exceptional.

We have constantly begged on this forum for selectors to reward these domestic grafters who perform consistently year in year out, and not guys who just deliver in a six week tournament like PSL.

Hard work pays off, a fully deserved World Cup selection.

Very sad to see how much criticism Abid is getting on here. People are welcome to debate his selection all they want (like you I am happy with his selection) but even if posters disagree no need to talk as if Abid is a TTF like Ahmed Shehzad.
