Announcing the change on Twitter on Saturday, he wrote: "The being formally [sic] known as Kanye West. I am YE."

West, 41, has been nicknamed Ye for some time and used the moniker as the title for his eighth album, which was released in June.

The change came ahead of his appearance on Saturday Night Live, where he was expected to launch his new album Yandhi.

He replaced singer Ariana Grande on the show who cancelled for "emotional reasons", the show's creator said.

As well as being an abbreviation of his current professional name, West has previously said the word has religious significance for him.

"I believe 'ye' is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means 'you,'" West said earlier this year, discussing his album title with radio host Big Boy.

"So I'm you, I'm us, it's us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye - just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are."

He is one of a number of famous rappers to change their name.

Sean Combs has been variously known as Puff Daddy, P. Diddy or Diddy, but this year announced his preference for the names Love and Brother Love.

A former West collaborator, JAY-Z, has also made do with or without a hyphen and capitals.

Kanye West filed court documents Tuesday to legally change his name.

The Los Angeles Superior Court filing says the 44-year-old wants to get rid of his full name — Kanye Omari West — in favour of just his longtime two-letter nickname, Ye, with no middle name or last name.

The documents, dated Aug. 11 but not sent into the court system until Tuesday, cite “personal reasons” for the change. An email seeking comment from the attorney who filed the documents was not immediately returned.

A judge must approve of the change before it becomes official.

West, who has called himself Ye on his social media pages for years, tweeted that he wanted the change in 2018, saying, “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”

The moniker was also the title of his 2018 album. He has said in interviews that, along with being a shortening of his first name he likes, that it’s a word used throughout the Bible.

West is in the middle of a divorce with Kim Kardashian West, who did not ask that her last name be changed back to just Kardashian when she filed to split from him in February. The couple’s four children also have his last name.

He has been holding a series of stadium listening parties for his forthcoming 10th studio album Donda, which is scheduled to be released before the end of August.

Reminds me of a Symbol, The Artist (Formerly Known as Prince).

Just seen that he's 44 years old in that article posted just there. Obviously still got the mental age of a 15 year old.

I approve of the name change.

Would be interested to know what Mamoon makes of it.

These celebrities do anything to be relevant. Pak actresses too do the same. It is all about getting attention, nothing else.

Pak actresses should not be compared to one of the greatest artists of the 21st century

Kanye is one of the biggest creative geniuses of our life time. He has dominated music production, rapping, fashion and footwear.

Every album is iconic, and have helped to shape hip hop, apart from the last one and unfortunately this one.

I think unfortunately he has now crossed that line from genius to being slightly insane.

A US pastor is reportedly suing Kanye West, alleging the rapper used parts of a sermon he gave without permission.

Bishop David Paul Moten claims parts of the sermon were used for 70 seconds in total on the track Come To Life, according to Texas court documents seen by US showbiz website TMZ.

It amounts to more than 20% of the just over five-minute track.

In the documents, Bishop Moten reportedly says it is the latest example of Kanye and the music industry "wilfully and egregiously sampling sound recordings of others without consent or permission".

The phrase "my soul cries out hallelujah and I thank God for saving me" is heard at the start of the track and there are other snippets too.

Bishop Moten is also said to be suing UMG Recordings, Def Jam Recordings and G.O.O.D Music over the song.

Damages are being sought from all of them, TMZ said, adding that it had sought comment from Kanye and not heard back.

Come To Life is on the rapper's 10th studio album, Donda, released last year.

Clothing giant Adidas has cut ties with rapper Ye, known as Kanye West, saying it does "not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech".

Adidas's Yeezy brand collaboration with Mr West was put under review, after he showed a "White Lives Matter" T-shirt design at Paris Fashion Week.

Days later, the rapper posted antisemitic comments on his Twitter account.

His products will be pulled from sale with immediate effect, said Adidas.

The sportswear brand has previously said the Yeezy brand collaboration with Ye was one of the most successful in the company's history.

Cutting the partnership means Adidas will make a net loss of £217m in 2022 as a result, it said.

Ye had previously accused Adidas of stealing his designs, in a now-deleted Instagram post.

In a statement on Tuesday, Adidas wrote: "Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye's recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company's values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness."

Instagram and Twitter suspended Ye's account in the days following his antisemitic remarks. His business partnerships have also come under increasing pressure: Bank JP Morgan and clothing retailer Gap said in October that they were ending their relationship with Ye.

Ye accused Gap of not honouring terms of their deal, including by failing to open standalone stores for his Yeezy fashion label.

Although Adidas put its relationship under review after Ye showed his "White Lives Matters" T-shirt, the company did not say the collection was the reason for the review.

It told the BBC it had made the decision to put the partnership under review after "repeated efforts to privately resolve the situation" of being accused by Ye of "stealing" his designs.

The phrase Black Lives Matter, which represents opposition to racism and police brutality, was widely used after George Floyd, an unarmed black man, was killed by a police officer in Minneapolis in the summer of 2020.

High-end fashion house Balenciaga and talent scouts Creative Artists Agency also cut ties with the rapper earlier in October.

Film and television production company MRC said on Monday it will not be airing its recently completed documentary on the rapper.

"Kanye is a producer and sampler of music. Last week he sampled and remixed a classic tune that has charted for over 3,000 years - the lie that Jews are evil and conspire to control the world for their own gain... As leaders of this company (a Jew, a Muslim, and a Christian), we feel duty bound to say to all of you this is a pernicious, terrible use of false logic," MRC wrote on Monday.

'Net worth falls'

Shares in Adidas fell as much as 8% after the announcement but have since pared their losses.

Adidas had warned in its last financial forecast in October that deterioration in its business in China, along with lower consumer demand in major Western markets, have put pressure on its profit forecasts for 2022. The brand is also looking for a new chief executive, after announcing in August that current boss Kasper Rorsted would be leaving in 2023.

A spokesperson for Campaign Against Antisemitism said: "Adidas has finally joined other brands and agencies and cut ties with Ye (Kanye West). This would not have happened without the almost 175,000 who signed our petition and the celebrities and influencers on both sides of the Atlantic and around the world who helped promote it and amplified the message."

The rapper has also lost his position in Forbes magazine's list of billionaires. The magazine estimates the loss of the Adidas partnership has cut Ye's net worth from $1.5bn to $400m.

The BBC has contacted Ye's representatives for comment.

I think he is not clothed in his right mind. When he lost his mother I think his grip on reality loosened a bit.

I feel sad about that, but he can’t go around saying those things and expect to represent a German company.

I hope he gets well in himself again.

Say anything negative about Jews or Judaism, it is called hate speech. But say anything negative about Muslims or Islam, it is called freedom of speech.

I very much doubt anyone would have batted an eyelid if Kanye made negative comments about Muslims.

Indeed.

There are many Islamophobes who openly say nasty things about Islam and Muslims. They do not get canceled. But, antisemitism can get you in serious trouble.

Would anyone bat an eyelid if he said something negative about Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism.

Its not what anyone says, its how you react.

Go and watch his full interview he did on drink champs. The media is making him a scapegoat. I don’t agree with everything he says but everyone is entitled to a opinion.

Let’s cut through these generalisations.

Nazi Germany committed an extermination programme against we be if these religions - Judaism. Adidas is a German firm. Modern democratic Germany takes antisemitism very, very seriously.

You don’t know what Adidas and Gap would have done had West maligned those other religions, because he didn’t do it.

Adidas didn’t care when he was making white lives matter shirts and telling people George Floyd died of fentanyl. He just called out the people you can’t mention that’s why he’s getting canceled. Which proves his point.

Please stop drawing false equivalences.

Did he say he was going to “death con 3” on white people or black people?

No.

is Kanye saying that he is going “death con 3 on Jewish people” an acceptable comment to either of you? Im curious.

He's full blown crazy now.

Sadly he seems to have pushed away everyone close to him and is lashing out at everyone.

He is being used to by media outlets who are using him to generate clicks and views.

After his most recent comments there was no need for 'journalists' like Piers Morgan to interview him and allow him to rant further.

He needs sectioned.

We should call out bigotry no matter who the target it.

His most recent comments were abhorrent.

Antisemitism is a serious issue yet whenever there are examples of it instead of condemning it people like you start complaining about the treatment of Muslims.

It is possible to condemn both.

It's a play on words - DEFCON 3 (he is a rapper after all).

This is nothing compared to some of his lyrics in his music which have earned him millions, while music labels and sponsors like Gap and Adidas endorsed him; and yes, he has given crazier interviews before his recent meltdown, not to say anything of his support for Trump.

Lets not pretend there's one rule for one, and another for the rest.

Given the facist merch he was selling and his views on GF’s death, do you think it was appropriate for a global brand like Adidas to continue supporting him, also considering their diverse customers? especially considering their current stance

We’ve seen business which have cut ties even during the “innocent until proven guilty” phase on a number of moral/ethical breaches

And with Adidas being an upstanding company for maintaining their moral high ground, it’s interesting, their inconsistency

No, I don’t. Perhaps they weren’t aware that “White Lives Matter” is a hate group slogan? I wasn’t until this thread. I thought it was used by some white people who feel threatened by the equality movement. Ignorant, but not actually evil.

His view on Mr Floyd’s death can be dismissed as craziness.

But you absolutely cannot be antisemitic to a German. They jail people for questioning the Holocaust. That’s how ashamed they are, and how much they want to prevent that ideology returning.

Adidas is a brand which is very popular among the Afro Caribbean community, I am surprised they didn’t take action.

I think it is naive to suggest they didn’t recognise that there are sensitive feelings surrounding GF and white supremacist rhetoric. This is not something which can be “dismissed”, the brand outright ignored this.

I am not suggesting they should have cut ties with Ye then, but maybe a statement along the lines of we are an international brand who are all for diversity and the views of those we employee/sponsor are not shared with Adidas global or whatever.

They outright ignored Ye’s behaviour in this instance.

I am not in favour of any attacks against the jewish community but there is clear problem here which the west need to address.

FYI Gap deal was terminated in September itself, also Adidas was just looking for a way out..

Fair comments. Adidas have marketing people watching what their brand ambassadors do.

Adidas isn't all of "the West" though - as pointed out GAP (part of "the West") had already dropped Ye. You are right, Adidas should have dropped him sooner.

Plenty of Western film and TV and advertiser firms have made strides in Black representation since the BLM marches.

No, it isn’t acceptable and I didn’t try to justify Kanye’s comments.

I was just making another point that people get offended when there are negative comments being made about a certain group of people, but don’t seem to care when the same type of comments are made about another group of people.

If that was the case they need not have waited this long with Ye lol

That's actually true too lol but I have heard countless times how much headache he was to Adidas and with Yeezy resale values down he wasn't as lucrative as before.

Jordans still are #1 eventhough Yeeze's are sooo ahead as a shoe in style and comfort.

That’s fine, and thank you for the reply.

I do think your initial response could have been a bit clearer because it looked like you were trying to walk past the bigoted Kanye comment and perform a deflection.

What I find intriguing is that when Islam/Muslims, Christianity/Christians, Hinduism/Hindus, Sikhism/Sikhs are discussed, criticised, and even ridiculed, it's all free speech - the right to offend.

Yet, when Judaism/Jews is the topic, not only is it taboo, but the people who oppose anti-Semitism, are dead silent when other religions are under the spot light; they will leave social media, boycott forums and products. I put it down to brainwashing and subconscious racism.

One religion/people deserve more attention above all else - this is the Western message and mantra indoctrinated since WW2. It is wrong.

Address the elephant in the room, Jews were not the only people to be persecuted, the method is irrelevant, Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Sikhs have all been persecuted, so why does Western society prioritise anti-Semitism?

When these said folk hold all forms of racism and discrimination to be all equal, rather than prioritise anti-Semitism, is the day the world will move a step closer to harmony.

Until then, celebraties and politicians are rewarded for speaking their mind against all religions but Judaism, yet celberaties and politicians have lost careers when criticising Judaisim.

Take Sinéad O'Connor, she was propelled to super stardom for dissing Christianity and the Pope - LIVE ON STAGE. She never lost a sponsor, but was rewarded for her view. Had she done the same with Judaisim, she'd be a foot note.

Watched his interview, pretty smart guy.

Its strange the MSM are attacking him more than they attacked Epstein or other peados.

He also stated this in the USA, where it is no crime. Brands should respect nations freedom to speak.

His freedom to speak has not been abrogated.

It does, however, have consequences in this case. Adidas have upheld their freedom not to be represented by someone who makes racist remarks.

Exactly this.

It's appalling that the conversation here has turned to the censorship aspect rather than the bigotry - which tells you everything about the views of some of the posters here.

There is plenty of critic of Judaism . The libraries are full of books which are very critical of Judaism. Mel brooks and Larry David have made their careers on mocking Judaism . There have been no issues. Anti semitism is not on. Same with islam. You should be able to criticize islam the religion. Mocking and ridiculing Muslims is not on.

It's an absolutely ignorant comment. I'm sure there are plenty of people around the world who are heavily critical of the Israeli state on a lot of matters, but to take a broad swipe at Jews en masse is terrible stuff.

Freedom of speech is the right to criticise the government without repercussion.

In Amreeka this goes further, the right to say what you want, when you want, is inshrined in their constituion.

The point in this case is cancel culture. Ye has been more critical and generalising of blacks but sponsors were still supporting him, and no doubt had he said anything about Muslims, even if it were that all Muslims should die, he would not have been cancelled, and gotten a warning or something.

Antisemitism will always be on the rise, cancelling speech, views, making denial illegal, only fuels the rise because people are waking up to the double standards.

Ye is spot on, he will only apologise for his comments once the studios, institutions, media, etc apologise for supporting and perpetratoring vile comments towards blacks in Amreeka in the past.

And yes MSM will attack Ye more so than Epstein, Peados, etc because its no big secret on who controls the MSM narrative in the West, and what faith Epstein was.

Kanye West returns to Twitter with 'shalom' post - six weeks after antisemitic ban
The rapper was dropped by many businesses after his antisemitic posts in October, most notably by Adidas which ended their lucrative Yeezy trainer deal.

Kanye West has returned to Twitter with the Hebrew word "shalom" after his account was previously blocked for antisemitic posts.

He posted the word - often translated as "peace" but also used as a greeting or farewell - with a smiling emoji on Sunday evening.

A few hours before, he tweeted: "Testing Testing Seeing if my Twitter is unblocked" - with new Twitter owner Elon Musk replying: "Don't kill what ye hate. Save what ye love".

West's Twitter and Instagram accounts were restricted in October after he posted he was going "death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE".

He was apparently reinstated on Twitter a few weeks later - just before the Twitter sale was finalised, Musk said at the time.

But after a few tweets at the start of November, West said he was taking a "verbal fast" for 30 days as well as abstaining from alcohol, "adultfilms" and sex.

His last post before Sunday was on 4 November.

Fans of West - also known as Ye - seemed happy to see him back after his short absence and his "testing" tweet notched up 678,000 likes in five hours.

The rapper was dropped by many businesses after his antisemitic posts, most notably by Adidas which ended their lucrative Yeezy trainer deal.

As that controversy played out last month, West announced he was buying fringe social network Parler - a platform popular with conservatives.

Ye's latest tweets come as Donald Trump's Twitter account was reinstated at the weekend after nearly two years.

He was allowed back after Musk held an online poll of users - which the former president narrowly won.

Mr Trump was banned in January 2021 in the wake of the siege at the US Capitol building.

However, the former president has suggested he won't be posting anytime soon having set up his own social network, Truth Social.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West reach divorce settlement
Rap mogul will pay ex-wife $200,000 a month in child support, and both will share custody of children

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have reached a settlement in their divorce, averting a trial that had been set for next month, court documents filed on Tuesday showed.

The former couple and their attorneys filed documents asking for a judge’s approval of terms they have agreed on, including $200,000 a month child support payments from Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, to Kardashian.

The two will have joint custody, and neither will pay the other spousal support, according to the documents filed in Los Angeles superior court.

The judge declared the two legally single at Kardashian’s request in March, ending their eight-year marriage, but issues of property and custody remained that were to be worked out in a trial starting 14 December.

The two have four children whose ages range from three to nine years old.

Kardashian and Ye will equally split the expenses for the kids’ private security and private school, including college, according to the settlement proposal.

They will also each pay their own debts, the settlement said. The two had a prenuptial agreement and kept their property largely separate.

The couple began dating in 2012 and had their first child in 2013. West proposed later that year using the giant screen at the empty waterfront ballpark of the San Francisco Giants, and the two married on 24 May 2014 in a ceremony at a Renaissance-era fortress in Florence, Italy.

The two appeared to be headed for a cordial split with agreed-upon terms when Kardashian first filed for divorce in February 2021. Neither discussed the split publicly until early this year, when Ye started lashing out on social media against Kardashian, her family and her then boyfriend Pete Davidson. Among his complaints were that he was not being allowed to make major parenting decisions and was been excluded from birthday parties and other events for their children.

Ye, who has fired two lawyers since the divorce filing, also raised several technical issues and demands, including seeking the right to question any new husband of Kardashian’s under oath, which the judge, Steve Cochran, promptly rejected.

The settlement comes soon after several companies have cut ties with Ye over offensive and antisemitic remarks that have further eroded an already withering public image.

His latest lawyer, Nicholas Salick, did not immediately reply to a request for comment on the settlement.

It was the third marriage for Kardashian, the reality TV superstar, businesswoman and influencer, and the first marriage for the rap and fashion mogul Ye. Theirs was one of the most closely followed celebrity unions in recent decades.

Totally lost it this guy.

Twitter suspends Kanye's account again on violating rules

Dec 2 (Reuters) - Twitter Inc on Friday suspended Kanye West's account again, just two months after the rapper's account was reinstated, as his tweets violated the social media platform's rules.

Twitter-owner Elon Musk, who calls himself a free speech absolutist, had welcomed the return of the rapper, now known as Ye, to the platform in October.

In his latest tweet late on Thursday, Musk said "I tried my best. Despite that, he again violated our rule against incitement to violence. Account will be suspended."

Twitter late on Thursday also restricted one of Ye's tweets. His account was suspended within an hour after Musk responded to a Twitter user, who said "Elon Fix Kanye Please."

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Twitter had restored the account of the rapper, before the completion of the social media platform's $44 billion takeover by Musk. However, he later clarified that he had no role in bringing Ye back on Twitter.

I'm intrigued to see how people defend him.

I don't think anyone would defend him unless they are just looking to have an argument.

What I don't get is why is he even in the news, is it necessary to give him a platform and airtime.

He was one of the biggest artists and fashion designers of the last 10-15 years and still has a massive online following.

He and his fans exist in a bit of an echo chamber. If putting the spotlight on his extreme views helps penetrate that echo chamber then its worth it.

I think history shows that this expands and empowers his echo chamber.

Kanye and his supporters are mostly proponents of Black Hebrew Israelites. I have seen some podcasts where American blacks who think they are the real Jews and the modern day Israel is full of fake Jews. Their hatred for Jews is very palpable.

This London Studio Is Offering Free Kanye West Tattoo Removal

A tattoo removal studio in London is offering to remove Kanye West's tattoos free of charge as the American rapper continues to promote antisemitism and praise Adolf Hitler, reported CNN.

NAAMA Studios, a laser tattoo removal spot in Central London, announced on Instagram that it would not be charging its clients to remove tattoos related to the rapper. In the post, the studio said, "Yeezy come, yeezy go Got a #kanyewest tattoo? Tag us." The photo reads, "We'll remove your Kanye tattoos for free."

In another post, they wrote, "When you have a tattoo inspired by someone you admire and they end up making headlines for all the wrong reasons... at NAAMA we offer an empowering, empathetic, high-tech tattoo-clearing experience. If you want a change, we're here to help."

According to the website, the full tattoo removal can be done in about 2 to 3 weeks, or 10 to 15 sessions.

People with Kanye West tattoos can reach out to the studio through email or by tagging them on social media.

According to a CNN report, the tattoo removal initiative has received "global interest and a great response."

Briony Garbett, NAAMA's CEO, told CNN, "It seems there are a few former fans with tattoo regret."

"When you have a tattoo inspired by someone you admire and they start making headlines for all the wrong reasons, it's not exactly something you want to wear on your sleeve that you are or were a fan," Garbett added. "With that in mind, we wanted to come to the aid of those who are embarrassed about their Kanye West-inspired tattoos and are offering complimentary treatment for all UK fans that want them removed."

The rapper openly heaped praises on Adolf Hitler. In what could be termed as an unlikely and bizarre statement, Kanye said that he sees good things in Hitler, as per New York Post.

According to New York Post, which is a daily tabloid newspaper published in New York City, Kanye appeared for an interview with Infowars host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on Thursday wearing a black hood that covered his face.

In the last two months, Kanye has received a lot of flak due to his anti-semitic rhetoric, which has cost him lucrative partnerships with companies like Adidas and Gap.

Adidas severed ties with Kanye last month after the rapper went on an anti-Semitic Twitter rant. Gap, another corporate partner who sold Kanye's clothing line, also dropped him following his incendiary remarks.

I hope they stop giving him more coverage. He is clearly mentally unwell and hence spouting out crazy theories.

Yes, it feels a bit irresponsible and exploitative at this stage to be giving him this kind of a platform.

Kanye West's Honorary Doctorate Revoked Due To Anti-Semitism Remarks

American rapper-songwriter Kanye West's honorary doctorate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) has been rescinded by the institution.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, an American entertainment news outlet, in a statement to The Chicago Sun-Times SAIC officials said, "The School of the Art Institute of Chicago condemns and repudiates Kanye West's (now known as Ye) anti-Black, anti-Semitic, racist, and dangerous statements, particularly those directed at Black and Jewish communities."

They added, "Ye's actions do not align with SAIC's mission and values, and we've rescinded his honorary degree." This honorary doctorate was awarded to the rapper in 2015.

The decision was made in response to a change.org petition started by members of the SAIC community for SAIC President Elissa Tenny to revoke West's honorary degree in light of his recent anti-Semitic remarks.

"We informed the SAIC community this morning," a school spokeswoman told the Sun-Times, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

"This award bestows the legitimacy and luster of the School on a figure who has in recent months has made repeated public statements expressing and justifying anti-Semetism. Regardless of his contributions prior to receipt of this award, it is harmful to allow Ye, as he is presently known, to continue to use the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to help legitimize hatred and violence," the petition partly read, according to the outlet.

The same individual(s) calling him smart were also defending some German people who were recently arrested for holocaust denial and for doing Nazi salutes.

Nothing surprising really. This kind of mindset is prevalent in densely populated Pakistani ghetto type areas especially in Birmingham. I have cousins there who told me that most Pakistanis in their region don't hang our around with non-Pakistanis because of their hate for non-Muslims.

Rosa Parks was an American black civil rights activist. Parks' refusal to give up her seat on a segregated Alabama bus for a white passenger in 1955 sparked a boycott that galvanized the movement for equal rights for blacks in Montgomery and nationwide.

Black men and women stayed off the buses, walking or arranging other rides to work for more than a year to fight for desegregation.
