LAHORE: Special Representative of the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony Maulana Tahir Ashrafi on Sunday said criticised the appearance of women in advertisements and said that "despite having so many good looking men in the country, advertisers still hire women to represent their brands."

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Ashrafi further said that women should not be "unnecessarily featured in advertisements", adding that he is against such practices.

Ashrafi also shed light on other important matters and said that upon the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan is internationally combating the rise of Islamophobia.

"For this purpose, the government has started reaching out to different Islamic scholars across the globe," Ashrafi said, adding that those who have been posting blasphemous content on websites have been taken into custody.

He also talked about the growing menace of sexual crimes in the country and said that perpetrators must be sentenced to harsh punishments as these crimes cannot be ignored.

"The ulema have a role to play in eradicating obscenity, terrorism, and extremism from the country," Ashrafi said.

Some of these Mullahs are so sus, like they're clearly in the closet and would rather support same-gender relations than opposite-gender attraction.

The government will soon ban women from ads. Women will only be allowed to feature in ads if absolutely necessary. The government is approaching PEMRA and PTA regarding this.

Sp should men be advertising women's clothes? It is simple Maulana if you are that pious then lower your eyes to avoid any sinful temptation.

This part of the article was ignored by the other posters, probably because of not reading the entire post and just going by the headline.

The Ulema are an important part of society, and can help ensure that peace remains in Pakistan.

Do you have a source for this? As far as I can tell their is no law being proposed by the govt to ban women from advertisements. Simply one man is expressing his opinion, which he is entitled to have, that women should not unnecessarily be in advertisements.

This is an extremely important issue that ministers of the government should tackle forthwith so that the country can advance socially and economically.

Imran Khan is proving to be worse than Zia with his constant use of religion, moral-policing, self-righteousness and piety. Last week, DG PEMRA banned intimate scenes from TVs but violent scenes of men beating up women and Ertugrul and co beheading Christians are fine! Ironically, DG PEMRA was fired two days back after being found guilty of sexual harassment of a woman employee. The irony could not have been stronger.

At least he does not want to declare himself Amir-ul-Momineen like Nawaz.
