Afghan mixed martial arts fighter, Javid Basharat, submitted Israeli fighter, Oron Kahlon, in their Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) match yesterday, serving justice after Kahlon called Basharat a "terrorist" before the fight.

On Monday, during the weigh-ins for their Contender Series bout, Kahlon missed his intended weight by three pounds (1.3 kg), putting the fight at risk. When the two fighters had the traditional face-off following their weigh-ins, Basharat refused to shake Kahlon's hand, leading to Kahlon being heard calling him a "terrorist."

In the caption of a post on his Instagram account, Basharat responded furiously to the slur, claiming that "This p*ssy [Kahlon] wanted a way out by missing weight by 3 pounds." When he told the Israeli fighter that he would beat him in the match, "he then called me a terrorist. [He] wanted a reaction again [and] wanted a way out."

Basharat was, indeed, true to his word yesterday, brutally unleashing a series of blows with his elbows on Kahlon in the first round, and seeming to enjoy having the upper hand in the second. It was four minutes into the third round when the Afghan fighter decided to submit his Israeli opponent with a guillotine choke.

The irony of an Israeli MMA fighter calling his opponent this.....

It was a brutal beating he received for his words...

Good going. The Israeli took a mega beating it seems.

I find it kind of annoying how MMA fighters are always referred to as being from their country of origin as opposed to the country where they learn their sport and where they live. For example, Adesanya fights under the Nigerian flag and this guy is acting like he represents Afghanistan with that thick British accent. Mate, you owe your career to England - the least you could do is call yourself British.

The Afghan absolutely pulverised the Israeli like his Dad! Reminds me of what Khabib did to McGregor some time back for similar reasons. Making personal remarks rightfully shuts up their mouth more ways then one.

No, it's a personal choice of the fighters. For example Khamzat used to be billed from Sweden but now he's chosen to rep his native Chechnya instead after fraternizing with Kadyrov.

Barbaric sport.

Barbaric outcomes.

And here we are cheering these people.

I generally don't like excessive force but I can understand Javid's anger here.

Well done, Javid.

I guess it depends from person to person. Beneil Dariush was born in Iran, he is such a humble person with great personality, but he gives me 'Murican-red-neck energy by waving the USA flag.

To put the whole matter is Karim Benzema's words: “En gros, si je marque, je suis français, et si je ne marque pas, je suis arabe” (“Basically, if I score, I’m French, and if I don’t score, I’m an Arab.”).

A disgrace they allowed this slur. Absolute disgrace. Should have suspended the fighter, fine line between this and trash talk.

Otherwise how is UFC different to the far right MMA under Nikitin in Russia or Rise Above in US? Both are popular among racist far right new Nazis, some of their fighters even got a contract with UFC(!)

I think Dariush waves the USA flag because he is Christian and probably relates more with the USA than Iran.

Its the oldest sport in history. MMA is a complex sport, requires great fitness, mental strength and discipline.

Trash talk is part of the game. Real talk takes place in the octogan.

Not condoning this outrageous slur, but no matter the gamesmanship of the Israeli, I think he should still have shaken his hand which probably prompted that outburst.

Have you ever lived outside of Pakistan?

Yes. But Pakistan has always been and will always be home base. Very happy with my Pakistani passport.

i'm asking because you are using British vernacular such as "mate" while criticising Adesanya for his Nigerian connection and this Afghan for a thick British accent. You are a prime hypocrite for using the term "mate". Mate. Oh yes, I am actually British mate, so I can say this.

I'm not criticising the "Afghan" for having a British accent lol - I'm saying that the man is far from being an Afghan with that British accent.

As far as using "mate" is concerned, you're ignorant for not knowing that the word is not exclusive to England - just as the English language isn't. I'm currently living in New Zealand where the word "mate" is used a lot more than in England anyway.

If using the word "mate" makes me a hypocrite then it makes me a hypocrite for also speaking English or other languages that I know that aren't my native language. Your ignorance is surprising.

It makes you a massive hypocrite "mate" since you are criticising Adesanya and others for flying ethnic flags while still bragging about being a home based Pakistani (while living in New Zealand).

Home based because that is where all my assets are and future is - I'm only here temporarily.

Glad the idiot got destroyed. I think the guy got away with it because it was on Dana White's Contender Series. There's no way it would fly if it was on a proper UFC card (Fight Night or otherwise). Dana claims he's all for free speech, but didn't give Belal Muhammad (Palestinian-American, and represents the Palestinian flag) a post-match interview when he won a fight around the time of the most recent significant Palestine-Israel dispute. He just allows things to be said when he knows they won't get him in too much trouble.

Not sure it’s the oldest, MMA has’t been around that long compared to Boxing. As far as combat is concerned maybe Wrestling is the most ancient, but you could back to 1700’s for bare knuckle boxing - the backstory / fighting heritage is fascinating. MMA doesn’t have the best PR perhaps because it hasn’t been around that long and has a fair distance to go and jump through similar hoops of scrutiny as Boxing did, but it also has suffered from the lack of mainstream appeal because it is seen as a sport which isn’t refined skilfully or require specialist demands (we’ve seen how an amateur career can start in the first five years of you’re life in specialist sports), you can win in a variety of ways - jack of all trades master of none type perception or have the fortune of submitting prematurely or not being able to stand up and continue fighting after a knockdown etc then there’s groundwork involved which can sometimes include one fighters behind or jewels in another fighters face, so that gentleman aspect goes out the window to, unfortunately whether right or wrong these perceptions can combine and view the sport as pure barbaric savagery which is primarily followed by youth.

I would argue though sportsman like Khabib have done their best to try and shift the negative perceptions is a master of his craft but then you have a savage like Conor who is a great example of how the sport doesn’t necessarily need one to be the strongest mentally to succeed or have the biggest heart and maybe more controversially - be the most skilful, quitting isn’t so taboo in MMA either and the chance of death is limited compared to other combat sports but that should be taken as a positive.

On the main topic, glad the Israeli got put in his place
