Afghanistan (106/2) emphatically defeat Sri Lanka (105) by 8 wickets in the Asia Cup 2022

8 down now - crumbled totally Sri Lanka - Afghanistan such as tough team to play against.

So is bowling first the way to go this time in Dubai?

Team batting second normally have advantage in Dubai.

But, Sri Lanka just batted really poorly. Also, Afghan bowling was good.

In the past it was the afghan spinners that would do the trick

Advantage was taken by tonking their pacers and the poor fielding.

Today afghan pacers bowled well and the fielding has been marvelous. Apart from karim jannat, the rest has been great

If Afghans win this, BD-SL game may become a knockout game (as I expect Afghans to beat BD too).

Team that bats first has no clue what to set here. They go after a target like 170 plus and end up getting bowled out for far less.

These wickets are very very poor for T20 cricket. Ball is turning, swinging, rolling during day game.

Where is Angelo Matthews, Chandimal, Dickwella, Jayasuriya etc.?

Why they are not playing?

All on Hasaranga and Theeskhana now.

I think this will still be a tight game. Just hope dew doesn't set in.

This pattern looks familiar. Very similar to how world T20 went. Batting becomes easier towards the end of the first game. And became super easy in the 2nd innings.

Looking at how charged up Afg team is, I don't know what's going to happen in Pak vs Afg

Chamika Karunaratne gets left with the tail everytime yet still gives his best. I feel for the guy.

Afghans need to be patient here , the target is not big , they should take there time

Naa. They will be playing bangladesh aswell so in this group rr will matter.

Afghanistan should finish this game under 10 overs to get that advantage

Afghans should try to finish it by 15th over. That can give them a big NRR boost and should propel them to next round (Super Four).

This bowlers action...looks like when you play Lasith Malinga in EA Sports :)))

Debutants feel the pinch. They just swing through the line.

I don't know why Sri Lanka went for this rookie in this tournament. He should've been tried against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe etc.

India did the same mistake last World Cup when they played Varun Chakrabarti.

More or less a forced change with Chameera out of action.

A big Afghan win can also be good for Bangladesh. SL's NRR is taking a battering here.

Pakistan better be on their toes. Afghanistan will not be an easy team to beat especially in this format and conditions

Afghanistan have the team to win the Asia Cup. They are the dark horse this time.

Man, it aches my heart seeing Lanka like this. Literally, within less than a decade, it went from world champion players to do you even know anyone in the team other than hasaranga ....

AFG - 86/1 (7 overs).

A bit surprised Hasaranga didn't bowl earlier. Only 20 runs to go.

I firmly believe that its the SL kit which is the problem!

You are right.

But, I am just saying that if NRR comes into play, SL should be in a big hole.

NRR will come into play only if Bangladesh manages to beat this Afghan side. I really don't think they can at this moment. Irrespective of the toss.

Afghans toured BD in February. T20 series ended 1-1.

So, let's see.

BD are scheduled to play Afghans on Tuesday.

Afghanistan won by 8 wkts

SL selectors should be sacked honestly. They picked 3 specialist pacers in the squad all 3 of them without any t20i cap. 2 of them made their international debuts today. The third one has played 1 ODI only.

Why didn't they pick Rajitha, Kumara, Asitha Fernando, Binura Fernando? Surely not all of them could be injured.

Don't think Bangladesh will be able to win against AFGHANISTAN, the real battle will be between SL and ban

Bangladesh has limitation in imposing themselves in the batting department. THey don't have many players who can score 40 in 18 balls. LItton Das has the best T20 strike rate. 126. Couple of them over 120. Rest are below 120. Mohammad Ashraful's strike of 126 is more than all the current top order.

Afghanistan has a lot of high impact players. In the right conditions they can challenge any side.

Afghanistan on Saturday defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the opening match of the Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium. Chasing a target of 106, Afghanistan reached the target with 59 balls to spare.

Hazratullah Zazai hit an unbeaten 37 while Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a quickfire 38 at the top of the order.

Earlier, Fazalhaq Farooqi starred with a spell of three for 11 as Afghanistan bowled out Sri Lanka for 105. After being put into bat, Sri Lanka were tottering at five for three as Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq ran riot in the first two overs.

Farooqi struck twice in the first over to dismiss Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka, before Naveen-ul-Haq got the better of Pathum Nissanka in the next over.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Danushka Gunthilaka added 44 runs for the fourth wicket before Mujeeb-ur-Rahman gave the latter his marching orders.

I was actually expecting a minnow-like collapse from Afghanistan in the run-chase and seriously thought that the pitch might be playing tricks out there, but I was absolutely astonished and blown away by the way the Afghanistan batsmen went past the target with immense ease and professionalism. What a team, what an addition they've been to cricket since some time now.
