Afghanistan (188/6) secure a commanding 94-run victory over Hong Kong (94/9) in the opening game of the Asia Cup 2025

If I remember correctly. Abu Dhabi had a stat of most dropped catches ratio in all of UAE.

It has to do with its lights. It's not an easy place to take high catches.

I added two from Hong Kong: Anshuman Rath and Yasim Murtaza. Both ended up being big mistakes
 
Afghanistan should bring in Rashid and Noor. 8 overs them can finish off the innings maybe.

Should be a big NRR boost for Afghanistan.
 
HK - 44/5 (11 overs).

Babar Hayat is on 23* from 34 balls. One of the worst T20 innings I have ever seen considering target is 189.
 
Why are people judging Hong Kong 🤣🤣🤣🤣. These boys are here for extra money.

Most of these guys are likely office workers working a full time job in HK.

Lol they are still more successful then @Devadwal though 🤣🤣.

Agree.

BD was new to international cricket and they used to play out overs instead of going for the wins.

But, Hong Kong has been around for a while (longer than Afghanistan actually). They should've improved more. They are one of the weakest associates.
 
Nepal actually have some decent players. They wouldn’t have allowed Afghanistan to cross 150, and they would scrap somehow to get close. They are all gun fielders too.

They allowed Hong Kong to surpass 140 in qualifiers.

Nepal almost beat South Africa in 2024 World T20. They are a pretty good associate.

I am surprised Hong Kong qualified ahead of Nepal. Nepal should've played here.

Imo these Hong Kong’s, UAE and Omans have no business playing these ACC tournaments with hardly any home grown players.

Nepal are 100% home grown. They have so many talented players coming through like Afghanistan do.

Nepal is better than Hong Kong and Oman. Not sure about UAE. UAE is probably better.

This is a proper Asia cup. All nationalities with players that are organically produced. All separate identities of nationalism.

They should have qualified then.

I get the point around being home grown. Its a valid one, iCC shouldn't let these shame teams play but Nepal can't be that good if they lose to these guys

Just like Italy didn't make it to 2022 WC after losing to North Macedonia.

Nepal is better than Hong Kong. They almost beat South Africa in 2024 World T20.

I told everyone this at the start. Hong Kong stands no chance no matter how crap Afghanistan plays.

But I feel like Afghanistan will get smoked this tournament. Their spinners ans their players are ageing. Honestly serves them right.

I think excluding Nabi, All of them have lied about their age. I mean they have a 22 year old player who is balding? Bruh.

You're telling me a guy who is only 3 years younger then me, is apprantely bald and looks like he's old enough to father me 💀💀
 
Afghanistan needs to Play better cricket against spinners . Fielding was also not great either and others team won't let them get away with it.

For that to happen Nepal have to beat them. Nepal have only themselves to blame if they can't even rank in top 2 or 3 among these associates.

You are right but I expected a bit more fight from HK. Associates often fight hard (Netherlands, Scotland, UAE, Nepal etc.).

If they got all-out for 50 while swigning, that would've been better than doing tuk-tuk and reaching 94.

you're probably right about the age fudging but tbf, I had a friend who was balding since we were in elementary school lol. Bro lost all his hair by the time we graduated HS. And i've noticed that AFG folks (teens included) tends to have a rough looking face, making them look much older. BUT I am with you on this, they look way too old lol
 
This should've been a round robin tournament between top 6 Asian sides. There is no point to teams like Hong Kong, if the team was made out of native Chinese it would've been different.

There are 8 teams now. So, round-robin would be pointless. Who wants to see Oman vs Hong Kong or Oman vs UAE?

Round-Robin would've been great if there were 5 teams only (BD, Pakistan, SL, AFG, and India).

Afghanistan batting is always one shot away from complete meltdown. They don't quiet get the grasp of how to manage collapses. Partly because utter lack of batting depth. Even top tieer team will struggle if they are top heavy. India had this issue for like 5 or 6 years under Kohli. Everything has to go just perfect in the batting department. Srilanka on the other hand has decent batting depth. BD also had decent batting depth.

I am with you on this. UAE and Hong Kong has been playing for a while now - no local (I really mean local - not born there from ind/pak) represents the team ever. Heck, get teams like Japan or wtv in and let them play. Yeah, they will get their teeth smashed but atleast the locals will be representing the team and you know when the locals play, the country tends to follow it slowly. Am really tired of these 3rd class indian/pakistani team. We already have the premier teams to follow, no one wants to follow these other teams. Am all for 8 teams playing, not for india/pak 2.0 extra teams.

I watch quite alot of Afg cricket - I noticed that most days when Gurbaz or Zadran does not deliver - their batting will collapse. Nabi plays some good knock here and there but their batting is top order heavy, if that fails, it's pretty much GG most days. Today they got lucky with many drop catches. Cause they were 2/20ish at one point very early in the game.
