You pushed us way harder than Australia, Pakistan, South Africa could.

What a match it was.

Proud to see where you guys have reached

They need the right pitch, can win against anyone in limited overs on their day.

All the best Afg as they are officially out from this WC :)

This was a match they should have won. Lack of experience at the highest level costed Afghanistan this match.

I was more proud of BD when they challenged us and lost by a mere 2 runs. These afghani players are overconfident af.

Very well played brothers. Thank you for giving some of our players a much needed wake up call.

Congratulations for what...

They lost a match that could have been won by scoring better in middle late overs.
Huge miscalculation by Nabi if he was planning to take on Bumrah etc at the end.

Nabi played a useless innings in the end, got his 50 but did not help the team.

Well done Afghanistan. Great effort.

But there was a big chance to win this needing 224 it wasn’t 260-270 which would’ve been out of their reach against Ind bowling. Lack of maturity in the batting, too much tuk tuk by Rahmat and Shahidi which even then wasn’t bad considering low target but both got out same over pretty softly, didn’t help them.

Another batsmen with a run a ball 30-35 runs from Asghar or Zadran, could’ve won it for them. F

Good try anyway.

Pretty sure you wouldn't have been calling them "brothers" if they had won. Anyways, congrats to AFG for pushing India far more than Pakistan ever has in 7 attempts.

Decent bowling and fielding effort but the batting was average at best. India were very poor in all facets of the game, any other team would have cruised to victory chasing such a low score.

I think they should feel disappointed. They did the hard work, got themselves into a great position to win, yet in the end lost to run rate despite chasing a very small total. India will feel very happy that they got out of what could have been a humiliating loss.

They have beaten windies 3 times recently, won against Pk in the warm up chasing 260. I get that it’s the WC and real stuff but come on 224 to get they’ll never ever, ever get a chance to beat India in the WC or in general for the next 5years to win an ODI. Don’t give me they don’t have experience, they’v beaten windies recently, beaten BD 2 times in ODI in BD, they went close to beaten Pak and BD in Asia Cup. They’ve enough experience to chase 224 had they batted better. I feel they’ve missed Shahzad who most likely would’ve given them good quickfire start at the top.

Pakistan has not stretched India in 7 World cup match attempts as much as Afghan Warriors did it in 1 attempt in World Cup.

Well done Afghanistan. Pleased to see our brother nation progressing.

Afghanistan Zindabad. Pakistan Zindabad.

Congratulations Afghanistan, you gave a scare, off all the teams who got full member status your team will be the fastest developed team in a few years, best of luck.

Brilliant effort by Afg.. MoM should have been Nabi. He bowled as effectively as Bumrah and got Rahul and Kohli. And he then played Kohliesque innings on a tough pitch almost getting them home.

Why not?

That’s very cheap of you to think that way.

No. Had they beaten us I would have called them brothers with a lot more respect and happiness for them.

India’s bond with Afghans runs deep.

These Afghans have better cricketing sense than some of the more so called accomplished teams out there. Hats off to their spirit and grit!

Yeah most Pakistanis are unaware of how deeply invested India is / was in rebuilding the Afghan economy and more recently helping their cricket. They just assume that Afghanistan is closer to Pakistan for some strange reason.

Also Indian cricket shares a very respectful and friendly relationship with Afghans.

They are based on Noida and play their home cricket here in India at Noida and Dehradun.

Indians have every reason to feel happy and proud for Afghanistan.

Cricketing sense wise it would have been a huge embarrassment to lose today but looking a It with big heart, there is every reason to celebrate Afghanistan’s rise in cricket.

All this brother business would have been out of the window if Afghan's had won!

Don't think so. India would have still progressed to the semis. Afghans would still play their cricket on Indian grounds. India wil never make the mistake of taking them lightly now. The Asia cup game was close too.

Well then the Brother business should have happened at toss not when it became clear that India were winning.

Well played, they exposed our weaknesses with other teams could not before them.

Time for Indian think tank to realise we won't win world cup with this playing 11.

Well then the Brother business should have happened at toss not when it became clear that India were winning.

The Indian media was full of arrogance today with articles like India should test bench strength n all. I hope they realise that it is only a couple of players who are carrying the team. Nullify them and rest are sitting ducks.

Afghans will be one of the favs for the 2023 WC in India for sure. I'm sure their batsmen will improve over the next 4 years - esp given that their home base is India as well. Their bowling will be very difficult to contend with on Indian pitches and they will have good support as well.

Dont get offended bro - just the thread reeks of opportunism.

To each their own.

There’s always a congratulatory message and in some cases a commiseration message.

That’s what the game is about.

You play hard out there and then you shake hands and appreciate good performances after the match.

Today has been a big day for Afghanistan.

Indians should share some of that brotherly love with Pakistan, they are closer in DNA than Afghanistan after all. Soft power seems to fail when it comes closer to home.

Every Afghani player who has played in recent past played his cricket in Pakistan FC. We have taken most number of Afghan refugees than anywhere in the world, there was always a bond we shared atleast we thought we did until some of the people in Afghan govt as well as some portion of their local public tried to swipe it all under the carpet and took a different stance all together.

Yeah I suppose Pakistan has provided asylum to refugees. But in terms of hard dollars and infrastructure development, Pakistan's contribution to Afghanistan pales in comparison to India - going back all the way to WOT era.

Imo providing refuge along with the complicated mess that was the WOT has backfired for Pakistan and has eroded most fo the goodwill for Pakistan within Afghanistan.

Congrats to AFG for the fight they showed, still think they will win atleast 1 game in this tournament :yk3 :irfan

And a lot of us do that. Certainly me.

Pakistanis are closer to me than Bangladeshiz and Afghans due to me being a Punjabi. I have always been closelt following Pakistanis due to a lot i have in common.

Pakistan is 4-5 hours drive from my home town.

It';s a big country. Dont expect South Indian, Bengali Indians, Gujratis, Marathis etc to have much love for Pakistan. Why should they? To them even i am a stranger practically being a north Indian.

Will wait for a Pakistan Brothers thread from you.

Your feelings are appreciated and a lot of Pakistanis share the same feelings.

Why do we have to be brothers, fathers, sons, why can't we all be just good friends & neighbors?

They also stretched India to the last ball in Asia Cup and tied. It was more of a mental aspect of hanging in there - being minnows and seeing the victory, messed up their brains.

Meh, this is the WC not some charity event, simple matter is that Afg lost.

If India calls Afghan a brother what's wrong? Ancient India was Afg pak and Ind all together. Now split into few countries so why not all can be brothers? For some weird reason I see a lot of pak posters feel Afghan is our private property. Give them respect .

They did well for sure. Indian experience was the decisive factor at the end.

I think Afghans will continue to be brothers as long as they are minnows.

Think things will change quickly if and they start winning. Very overconfident and disrespectful bunch from what little I have seen. Haven't really interacted with any Afghans on a personal basis while personally know many people from every other cricket playing country.

I'm not convinced with their batting but they have done fairly well as a minnow team. Still, Ireland was the best minnow team of all time.

Afghanistan captain Gulbadin Naib returned freelance_cricketer's brotherly love in the postmatch presscon.

"India is my favorite team and I always support Indian team when I'm watching them."

"Virat Kohli is also my favorite player, but today we missed the opportunity to beat them."

Even the fans maintain that respect. There would be a few who are unaware of the the deep bonding between Indians and Afghans but those who are aware would always act humble.

I live in Delhi. In Lajpat Nagar, we have a large Afghan refugee community. They are hard working, down to earth and amazing people mostly. Much better than most other communities living in Delhi probably.

After helping rebuilding their parliament and building a dam, India is also now involved in building their state of the art cricket stadium as well. We hope cricket will resume in Afghanistan very soon. They deserve it.

The match was sealed the moment Rashid Khan got out. From then on it was a matter of how close they´d get. It was all too much for Nabi from thereon. It was a tough surface to bat on, so it was never going to be easy, although I´m not saying that another team, other than Afghanistan, wouldn´t have got there. Experience counts obviously. However, they can be mightily proud of their effort from yesterday. They also ran Sri Lanka close. So they´ve not been a punching bag at all for other teams. Congratulations to them indeed!

Given how the Afghan spinners bowled on that pitch, I was expecting Kuldeep to be the man who´d stand between Afghanistan and their win, but it wasn´t the case. It was a collective team effort on India´s part. As a fan of Dhoni (and hence also the Indian team), not even once I felt nervous that India are losing this. Obviously, feeling so comfortable wasn´t a luxury that the fans of this team had some time ago. India´s improved bowling attack, especially the pace attack, and having better options to trust plays a part here. Years ago, I´m sure that the Indian pace bowlers would´ve handed this game to Afghanistan in a platter.

What can I say about Shami´s hat-trick? "Bhaagtey chor ki langoti hee sahi" is an Urdu saying that comes to my mind! :))

I think you are bringing politics here on this forum. You and I very well know what is the reason behind that... So unless some things improve and both sides let their egos go and build some trust.. then only its gonna happen. Don't want to say much else i will get banned for discussing politics.
Its not DNA... we are same people with shared roots. My grandfather and his brothers worked in Lahore for Punjab Govt before 1947. He has always shared some fond memories.. and some bitter ones as well, especially during escape. I am sure it is vice versa for some people of my generation in Pakistan.

being a pakistani i support Afghan cricket, im a great fan of their game.

The thread is just dramaybaazi as most Pakistanis hate them are quite racists against them.

They gave a very good fight, something that Pakistan could learn. Defeating India doesn't mean you play 4 pace bowlers, even spinners work aswell. All you need is quality bowling thats all.

Also YOU CANNOT CRITICIZE AFGHANISTAN!

Reason being, they havent been given any series to play agaiinst the big teams. Infact even if they get a chance to play against Test nations, those are done in spin friendly.

They have barely been given a series in countries like England, Australia or SOuth Africa. EVen if they have played in such places the opponenets weren't that good.

Thus, how could you bash them.
This team isn't gonna improve by playing Ireland or Zimbabwe

bilkul sahi kaha aapney bhai.

Would love to see Pakistan invite Afghanistan for a ODI series. Would be a good way of encouraging international cricket in Pakistan too. Imagine the packed stands in Quetta, Karachi or Peshawer.

Well done indeed. Afghanistan is improving everyday. They will give tough fight to Pakistan as well.

+Its cute to see Indo-Afghan love in this thread :moyo2

India Afghanistan was very close
As was England against wi and sl
Just waiting on Aus-nz now

2019 wc is really shaping up

Yes it would be great but Afghanistan will most probably decline. Present anti-Pakistan/Pro-India puppet regime in Afghanistan will not allow.

Fair enough. We often sometimes forget that one end of India is quite a bit different from another.

Providing refuge is the ultimate brotherly love. Money is easy to give if you can spare it, but only those who believe in family would invite brothers into their homes in the millions.

Really is eye opening when you think in such way. I'd be a foreigner practically in 60-70% of India. There's hardly anything in common. I am sure its the same in Pakistan too but at a much smaller scale. Diversity in India is at another level.
