assylum?

Sadly this is going to be common for Afghans and they try to find a way to leave the country.

I sympathise with the young lads - who in their right mind would want to go and live under their current regime.

Does anyone blame them? Who wants to go to Taliban Afghanistan?

This is just going to make things worse for the Afghanistan national team, I would be surprised if they receive visas for international tours to Australia, NZ and SA in the future. Possibly places like Holland and Ireland as well. Some of them will always be tempted to claim asylum, especially those who have nothing going for them in T20 leagues

hearing from reports it was only 1 player and 3 support staff their transit visa expires today interesting to see how this develops.

Cant say whether its a good decision or a bad one. You never know how life would turn out.

Being part of the Afghan u19 set up does mean you could end up playing cricket and enjoy the riches that are to offer.

Izatullah Dawlatzai was an upcoming pacer from Afghanistan and would had been enjoying the riches of cricket today. Too bad he also claimed asylum

It's 1 out of 15 players. It's a left arm spinner named Hassani.

It's a good sign that 14/15 players returned home when you think of the situation in Afghanistan.

Izatullah Dawlatzai left because he felt he was overlooked for national team. When he came out of u.19 team Afghanistan had Dawlat Zadran, Hamid Hassan and Shapoor Zadran at their peak. He felt he did not get a chance and he thought he will never be a regular. Ironically After Shapoor, Dawlat and Hamid the pace bowling talent totally dried up. Izatullah Dawlatzai was probably the best among the next generation and today he would be a regular in Afghanistan national team. Some time you have to be patient.

Btw Izatullah married an Afghan girl from Germany, so he did not seek Asylum.

Former England batter Graham Thorpe has been named as the new head coach of Afghanistan's men's team.

Thorpe, 52, left his role as England assistant coach following the backroom shake-up in the wake of the disastrous 4-0 Ashes series defeat in Australia.

Former head coach Lance Klusener parted company with the Afghanistan Cricket Board at the end of 2021 following two years at the helm.

Thorpe, who played 100 Tests and 82 one-day internationals, will take over from Australian Stuart Law, who had been fulfilling the head coach role on an interim basis.

A statement from the ACB on Tuesday read: "Former English middle-order batter Graham Thorpe has been named as the new head coach of our national men's cricket team.

"He will step up into the role of head coach ahead of the upcoming international events of Afghanistan."

Afghanistan Senior Men’s Cricket Team left Kabul for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this afternoon with the aim of gaining UAE residency as well as featuring in a preparatory camp to gear up for the upcoming international events.

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) often hosts other countries in the UAE, so it is needed that a number of officials and players must obtain UAE residency and/or residence permits.

With the influx of players into the country, the ACB preferred to organize a training and preparation camp for the Afghan players under the supervision of some best coaches in the UAE to better prepare for the upcoming cricketing events.

The Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) has also reached an agreement with some experienced and high-profile coaches for the camp, which will be announced soon on the organization's social media handles and other relevant sources.

It’s to mention that the Afghanistan Cricket Board has also named Graham Thorpe, a former English Batter, as the new head coach for the Men’s national team, who will join the team and step up into the role at the end of April 2022.

Afghanistan name squad for the ACC Asia Cup 2022

Kabul, 16 August 2022: Afghanistan Cricket Board today announced its 17-member squad for the ACC Men's T20 Asia Cup 2022, which will be played from 27th August to 11th September in the United Arab Emirates.

From the 16 players who are part of the Afghanistan Squad for the ongoing Ireland T20I Series, Samiullah Shinwari has replaced Sharafuddin Ashraf, who is now part of the reserve players for the event, along with Qais Ahmad and Nijat Masoud. In addition, the left-arm wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad, who was replaced by Mujeeb Ur Rahman for the Ireland series, has also found his way to the side.

Afghanistan Squad for ACC T20 Asia Cup - Mohammad Nabi (C), Najibullah Zadran (VC), Afsar Zazai (WK), Azmatullah Omarzai, Farid Ahmad Malik, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Hazratullah Zazai, Ibrahim Zadran, Karim Janat, Mujib ur Rahman, Najibullah Zadran, Naveen ul Haq, Noor Ahmad, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Rashid Khan and Samiullah Shinwari. Nijat Masoud, Qais Ahmad, and Sharafuddin Ashraf are the three players, who are part of the team as reserves.

Chief selector Noor Malikzai: “The Asia Cup is an important event for us and, as such, we have picked our best available players for the event. Samiullah Shinwari has been added to the side for the Asia Cup. He is in very good form and can give further impetus to the batting department, which already boasts Ibrahim Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi. Shinwari has not played any international match since March 2020, but he has done well in the recently held Shpageeza Cricket League 2022 and demonstrated that he is a good option to strengthen our middle order."

The Afghanistan National Team is currently in Ireland for a 5-match T20I series against Ireland. The team will depart for UAE for the Asia Cup after Wednesday's series decider against Ireland.

International sanctions have made it harder to transmit money into the country ever since the Taliban regained governmental control in August 2021.

According to a media report, the ACB will be able to pay only 30% of the salary to employees and other staff working in Afghanistan, despite having finished making all outstanding payments to players at all levels and the coaching staff.

Based on anticipated ICC revenues of $ 2.7 billion, the funds-disbursement model of the ICC predicted that the ACB would get about $40 million during the 2016–23 commercial rights cycle. However, that has been changed to approximately $4.8 million annually due to a decrease in the ICC's projected revenues.

The ICC last made a payment of $2.5 to the ACB in July of the previous year. Full Members get ICC payments twice a year, in January and July.

Since no foreign team visits Afghanistan for bilateral series and the ACB's T20 event, the Shpageeza, is not broadcast outside of Afghanistan, ICC revenue is unfortunately the ACB's main source of funding.

Afghanistan have named uncapped wrist spinner Noor Ahmad in their ODI squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka later this month.

Senior all-rounder Gulbadin Naib also returned to the fold after being an injury replacement in the T20 World Cup squad. Noor Ahmad, 18, is yet to make his ODI debut, but is already popular around the world for his performances in T20 franchise league.

On his T20I debut against Zimbabwe earlier this year, Noor snared figures of 4/10. Recently, he was part of the T20I squad for the Asia Cup in UAE.

"The selectors have included some young faces for the series which is a good sign for us leading into the ICC Cricket World Cup next year," Naseeb Khan, the CEO of ACB said.

"The series is vital for us in terms of our qualification for the mega event next year and I am sure the squad carries enough strength to do well when they get to the field."

Afghanistan are currently placed seventh in the Cricket World Cup Super League. The ODI series, which will have all three matches in Kandy, is part of the Super League and will begin on November 25.

Afghanistan ODI squad: Hashmatullah Shahidi (capt), Rahmat Shah (vice-capt), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Azmatullah Omarzai, Fareed Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Gulbadin Naib, Ibrahim Zadran, Ikram Alikhil (wk), Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Najibullah Zadran, Noor Ahmad, Rashid Khan, Riaz Hassan, Shahidullah Kamal, Yamin Ahmadzai, Zia-ur-Rehman

UAE to be Afghanistan's 'home' for next five years
The United Arab Emirates will host Afghanistan's home matches over the next five years, the Afghanistan Cricket board has announced.

Due to security concerns, teams have stayed away from Afghanistan, who have played 'home' matches in India recently.

Security concerns deepened when the Taliban gained control of the country last year, after Western forces were pulled out.

As part of the agreement, Test playing nation Afghanistan will play an annual three-match T20 series against the tier-two Emirati side, the cricket boards said in a statement.

The ECB would also provide logistic support to the ACB, including visa assistance and office space.

ACB chief executive Naseeb Khan hoped the "fruitful agreement" would serve future goals of both the boards.

In the past, the UAE has served as venue for Pakistan's 'home' fixtures, and also hosted last year's T20 World Cup after the tournament had to be moved out of India following a Covid surge.

Afghanistan have confirmed their place at next year's ICC Cricket World Cup after their ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday was abandoned due to rain.

The five extra points that Afghanistan receive in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League standings courtesy of the no result takes the Asian side to a total of 115 points in the current cycle.

That has them sitting safely in seventh place on the current standings, with the top eight sides at the end of the Super League earning an automatic spot at next year's 50-over World Cup in India.

While the five points was a good result for Afghanistan, it was the exact opposite for Sri Lanka as their hopes of qualifying automatically remaining hanging by a thread.

Dasun Shanaka's side are in 10th place on the standings with just 67 points to their name and only have four matches remaining this period to try and sneak into the top eight.

They can pick up a valuable 10 points and tie the current series by defeating Afghanistan in Pallekele on Wednesday in what now looms as a crucial match for both teams.

Sri Lanka will be hoping for another strong showing from their spinners in that deciding match, after their slow bowlers did well to reduce Afghanistan to just 228 in the clash ruined by rain on Sunday.

Sri Lanka v Afghanistan, Scorecard
Half-centuries to Rahmanullah Gurbaz (68) and Rahmat Shah (58) had provided Afghanistan with a good start, but Waninudu Hasaranga (1/39) and Dhananjaya de Silva (1/37) helped slow the rate as the visitors were bowled out in the penultimate over.

Sri Lanka were 10/0 in the third over in reply when the rain came, ending what looked like being an exciting finish in the second ODI.

Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s Cricketing Wizard, has been appointed as AfghanAtalan’s Captain for the T20I format, replacing the senior all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, after he stepped down from the role post the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

Mr. Mirwais Ashraf, the ACB Chairman, expressed his desire for the appointment of Rashid Khan as the captain of the Afghanistan National Team for the T20I format. “Rashid Khan is a massive name in Afghanistan Cricket. He has colossal experience of playing the format around the world which will help him take the team to a new level in the format”. Added Mirwais Ashraf.

Ashraf further added: “Rashid Khan has the experience of leading AfghanAtalan in all three formats before and we are happy to have him as our skipper for the T20I format again. I am sure he will come out on top and will bring more glories to the nation”.

Rashid Khan is also delighted to take the leadership role and considers this a massive honor for him to be granted such a big responsibility to lead Afghanistan's National Team in the T20Is. "Captaincy is a huge responsibility. I have the experience of leading my country before, there is a great bunch of guys with whom I have a good understanding and feel pretty comfortable. We will try to stick together, will work hard to put things on the right track and bring pride and joy to our country and nation". added Rashid Khan.

Rashid Khan has so far represented Afghanistan in 74 T20I matches and has 122 scalps to his name in the format, which makes him the third leading wicket-taker in the format behind Tim Southee (134) and Shakib Al Hassan (128). He has also been in very high demand in franchise cricket, playing 361 T20 matches for 15 different teams around the globe from 2015 onwards and has bagged a mammoth 491 wickets which makes him the 2nd bowler behind Dwayne Bravo (614) with the most wickets in the format.

Afghanistan National Team is set to tour UAE in February where they will take on the hosts in three T20Is, which will be Rashid Khan’s first tour as Afghanistan’s skipper after 2019.

It will be the first meeting between the teams in any international format since 2018, where they met at the 50-over Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Afghanistan won the meeting by five wickets, and the men in blue have been victorious in the last four T20I meetings between the teams.

Really think they've got a good chance to beat Bangladesh and sneak into the Super 4 stage. Would be fantastic for them to gain some confidence before the WC, nowhere to go but up considering their 2019 outing!

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announces the appointment of Nicholas Trevor Lee as the new Strength & Conditioning Trainer for the Afghanistan National Team. Lee is set to join the team on February 23, ahead of Afghanistan’s upcoming all-format home series against Ireland.

The 40-year-old Nicholas Lee was a former right-hand batsman for Kent, having played 13 matches in his first-class career, scoring 490 runs at an average of 30.62, with three half-centuries and a highest score of 79* not out.

Nicholas Lee has most recently served as the Head of Physical Performance for the Bangladesh Cricket Board since March 2020. Before that, he worked for over three years with the Sri Lanka National Team as their Strength & Conditioning Trainer, from October 2016 to February 2020.

Before his international assignments with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Lee served as the Lead Strength & Conditioning Trainer at Sussex Country Cricket Club from March 2012 to September 2016.

Nicholas Trevor Lee holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Sports Science from Anglia Ruskin University (Cambridge) and is a Level II Certified Coach from the England Cricket Board (ECB). He has been an accredited member of the UK’s Strength & Conditioning Association (UKSCA) since 2013. In addition, Lee holds a Level 1 Anthropologist Certificate from ISAK and has completed a First Aid course from Pro Trainings in the UK.

The Strength & Conditioning Trainer position was previously occupied by Mr. Jason Douglas, who dedicated nine years of service to the Afghanistan National Team from June 2014 to Dec 2023.

The ACB recently appointed Shane McDermott as the National Team’s new Fielding Coach and is currently looking forward to filling the position of Performance Analyst, which remains the sole vacant position within the team.

Ihsan Janat Handed Five-Year Ban for Breaching Anti-Corruption Codes

Top-order batter Ihsanullah Janat has been banned from all forms of cricketing activities for five years following breaches of ACB and ICC Anti-Corruption Codes during the 2nd edition of the Kabul Premier League (KPL).

Janat was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which involves improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match. In light of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricket-related activities. Janat has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities.

The ACB Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has revealed that three other players are also under suspicion for involvement in match-fixing, and investigations are underway. Decisions regarding their involvement will be made upon confirmation of their guilt.

The ban on Ihsanullah Janat takes effect immediately with the release of this statement and will remain in place for the next five years.

Ireland call off Afghanistan series 'for financial reasons'

Ireland's men have called off plans to host a multi-format series against Afghanistan this year "for financial reasons".

Ireland were scheduled to play one Test against the Afghans, as well as three ODIs and three T20s, according to the Men's Future Tours Programme.

The Irish men's team will however play their first home T20I series against England in September, as well as hosting ODI and T20 series against West Indies in May and June respectively.

"One planned series that won't go ahead for financial reasons is against Afghanistan," Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom said.

"This decision is part of our management of short-term budgetary constraints, as well as our requirement to comply with the Board's mandate to deliver balanced investment across the organisation's strategic objectives."

He added that Ireland fans would however "be able to enjoy some of the world's best cricketers playing on these shores".

Ireland's women will welcome Zimbabwe for three T20Is and two ODIs in July and the following month will host Pakistan for three ODIs.

Their schedule will also include competing in two ICC World Cup qualifier tournaments.

The women's team will play Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, Thailand and Scotland in 50-over World Cup qualifying matches between 9 and 18 April.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed its sorrow at the death of Afghanistan umpire Bismillah Jan Shinwari at the age of 41.
