Afghanistan withdraw from Pakistan tri-series following cross-border incident

Afghanistan has withdrawn from next month's tri-series against Pakistan following the death of three local cricketers in a cross-border attack in the Urgun district of the country.

The T20I tournament, between Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, had been arranged by the PCB last month, and was scheduled to be played between November 17-29 in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

In a post on X, the ACB claimed that several lives had been lost in the attack, including three local cricketers who had been returning home after playing a "friendly" match in Sharana, the capital of Paktika province.

"The ACB considers this a great loss for Afghanistan's sports community, its athletes, and the cricketing family," the statement said.

Describing it as a "tragic incident", the ACB said that "as a gesture of respect to the victims" it was "decided to withdraw from participating in the upcoming Tri-Nation T20I Series."

The tournament would have been the second tri-series involving Afghanistan and Pakistan this year, following their meeting in August prior to the Asia Cup. However, it was due to be their first on Pakistani soil.

Afghanistan had previously played in the country, in the 2023 Asia Cup and earlier this year in the Champions Trophy, without playing against the host nation.

Pakistan and Afghanistan had been scheduled to play each other twice in the tournament - on November 17 in the series opener, and again on November 23. The tri-series had been finalised at time when the diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan were already deteriorating.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has yet to comment on the development.

Soon no one will be playing Afghanistan because of their women’s rights issues.

A country that no one wants anything to do with cannot deliver any kind of diplomatic bouncer lol
No one invites them from SENA

Now Pak wont be playing bilaterals

whats left to play? India too Busy

BD and Zimb perhaps

BD will be done with them too very soon.

Afghanistan basically hanging on as a respectable team to some extent as long as Rashid Khan is there. Nabi is leaving soon

The rest of the team are all useless without Rashid carrying them and making them compete.

Inna Lillahi Wa inna Ilaihi Rajiuun.

Two idiot countries fighting each other instead of coming together and fighting actual threats and innocent Muslims dying on both sides.

Good news. A T20 series against SL or BD would prepare us better anyway. No need to play cricket against these thankless Afghans. Let them play against their Indian brothers - A win win for both.

Afghanistan also regressed in T20. They lost 4 T20 games to BD, lost to SL, and lost the tri-series to Pakistan.

Maybe Pakistan can invite West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal, Ireland, or Zimbabwe.

Afghanistan pulling out of Pakistan tri-seriesCricket or geopolitics?”

More than just cricket: Afghanistan’s withdrawal shakes South Asian sports diplomacy.

Afghanistan just snubbed Pakistan, Guess who’s smiling quietly in Delhi.

Deeply saddened to hear the news of young Afghan cricketers dying as a result of reckless targeting of civilian infrastructure by the Pakistan army.

Could get PCB in a lot trouble with the ICC.

Was going through Rashid Khan's post and there were comments that he plays for Lahore in the PSL and that it was listed in his bio. I don't see it here. Did he remove it or was it never there

del.png

So what’s next, India & Afghanistan introducing a ‘no handshake, just side-eye’ policy at ICC tournaments?

Will the India–Afghanistan ‘friendship XI’ also come with a no-handshake clause for Pakistan?

Are we getting a cricket match or a proxy war summit at the next ICC event?

So… should Pakistan bring gloves or binoculars? Because handshakes might be off the table soon.

Will ICC have to add a new rule: ‘No warm-up, no handshake, just cold war’?

Talking of Rashid Khan. These are difficult moments once you make a general statement like he did. Removing it is a massive move because he might have had the best personal relationship with that team and players. But once you go down the political route, it's kind of hard to come back without looking silly.

They have more talented spinners currently and in reserves than Pak has ever had in its history.

Just because they beat u comfortably nowadays doesn't mean u disregard and ignore theirbtalent

You see Indian conspiracy here as well? :facepalm

They believe they can deceive everyone with their phoney crocodile tears. Any human being with a brain (not Pakistani conspiracy nut cases) wouldn't cook conspiracy theories with regards to Afghanistan pulling out of the series after what Pakistan did to them.

The loss of innocent lives is heartbreaking, whether it’s Afghanistan, India, or Pakistan. This proxy war has caused suffering on all sides. Every country responds according to its situation. Selective outrage doesn’t bring justice to anyone.

Oh right, only one country matters to some people. Innocent lives lost in Afghanistan, India, or Pakistan are equally tragic.

This proxy war is a disaster for everyone. Every nation reacts to defend itself, maybe try caring beyond your own borders.

Fitna e hindustan is spreading as expected with the Indian backing financially, and red carpet foreign welcomes at the expense of brushing aside their ladies.

Regardless, I believe in peace and cooperation. I hope things don't escalate between Pakistan and Afghanistan. At the end, it's innocent people who have to suffer. What wrong did those innocent 3 young cricketers do to lose their lives in such a young age?

Pakistani people might be conspiring but no on is worse than the Indians who are shedding their crocodile tears for afghans right now

When the Taliban took over Afghanistan after the US withdrawal, India didn't even allow the Afghans in India to stay who wanted political asylum

So take your crocodile tears for the loss of Afghan lives elsewhere. If Indians cared, they would have given asylum to Afghans

Out of spite, you are simply enjoying a very sad current Pak-Afghan conflict. Humanity has nothing to do with your approach

You can't find empathy if it's right under your nose, otherwise you won't be supporting RSS, BJP & Modi - the killers of Muslim and Dalits

You don't worry about the Muslims killed by your own people but are shedding crocodile tears on the Afghans, whom you conveniently like because they are presently holding a stance against Pakistan - even your media is openly saying that enemy's enemy is our friend.

It's your country that killed young upcoming Afghani cricketers inculding other civilians. And yet, it's you who accuse others of shedding crocodile tears?

Yet, you have no problem shedding crocodile tears for Gaza?

PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC... THREAD IS NOT ABOUT UKRAINE OR BRAHMOS.. TALK ABOUT SERIES RELATED STUFF

Fitna e hindustan is spreading as expected with the Indian backing financially, and red carpet foreign welcomes at the expense of brushing aside their ladies.
Yes yes, your country killing innocent cricketers is because of India. The audacity you guys have

In an ideal world, no one should be playing nations like Pakistan and Afganistan, but we know it's not happening. Most of the world is all talk and zero action.

Brother, take a deep breath.

Instead of saying most of the world, have a word with the man in your display picture first.

Have a word before judging the rest of the world.

Just make it bilateral series vs Sri Lanka.

Afghan Taliban are fully supporting ttp and also Afghan Taliban solders actively participating attacks in Pakistan and you expect Pakistan to be mum about it.

Far too long Pakistan has been quite but no more.

Which cricketer died?

You lecture us on delusion and fake news 24/7. Yet I have yet to see any sensible post from you.

Show us the cricketer killed.

Why are you under the impression that we are not sad at the deaths of the Afghans?

Not everyone has a policy of hypocrisy like indians. We have empathy with other Muslims. Most of us are sorry about the innocent Afghan deaths

You can't relate to it because your community has only one country's ownership. May be two including Nepal. Even Nepalis hate India.

*Afghan

Afghani is the currency of Afghanistan

Pakistan outright killed 3 young Afghani cricketers, and yet conspiracy nuts are still cooking their conspiracy theories about India being involved in Afghanistan's decision of pulling out of the series.

Exactly what I was thinking. Apart from @Suleiman , no other Pak posters here has condemned the death of 3 cricketers. This is sad to see.

Also, why did Pak military attacked innocent players?

Show me Pakistanis who celebrated the deaths of those Afghans in this thread?

We are unlike Indians. We don''t exploit the misfortunes of others. We all have different ways of expressing ourselves

The only celebration I see is of Indians, celebrating that Pakistan cricket will be in trouble because of these deaths. Some even want South Africa to leave Pakistan.

When Trump put tarifs on China, India jumped with glee and tried to undercut its neighbours

When Bangladeshi students rose up against a brutal dictator, India sent a plane to give the dictator refuge,

When the Taliban bombed Afghanistan and recieved worldwide condemndation for its subjagation of women, India stood with them in the United Nations and allowed their FM to degrade Indian female journalists.

Despite all this, Indians come and lecture us 24/7 about how to behave
:ROFLMAO:

Some pictures of the Afghan cricketers sadly killed in the operation.

They were at their cricketing peaks and were about to receive IPL contracts.

Condolences to all affected.

Attacking a country which doesn't have air defence capabilities by airstrikes during ceasefire.

Such a shameless act of cowardice.

Afghanistan violated the ceasefire by sending in some suicide bombers

This is is Pakistan military baby. Eent ka jawaab pathar hoga. Indians should know this.

I would urge all those who are only following this as a neutral cricket fan and have no real knowledge of the conflict to not trust Indian agenda posters here on the subject.

Afghanistan have not been playing fairly throughout, they are delusional to think that their 1900s style warfare is going to allow them to match Pakistan’s military that has successfully taken down Indian Military and also made it a global strategic player.

The collateral damage in Afghanistan is certainly going to be a lot higher in cross fire. Pakistan does not target civilians.

TAKE YOUR WAR-RELATED STUFF TO SOME OTHER RELEVANT THREAD IN TPS...

THIS THREAD IS SPECIFICALLY ABOUT SERIES WITHDRAWAL..

That should be the thinking and spirit. Looking at the comments here I am very disappointed. Two neighboring Muslim country in fight with one another. They should have helped one another and should have been in very good relationship.

Lol at Muslim brothehood

Where were these Muslim brothers when India committed terrorist activity on the 7th of May? Where what was the Afghan minister doing in the country that killed Pakistani children on the 7th of May?

No Muslim brotherhood unity anymore!

Pakistan stands for Pakistan. We depend on nobody. You mess with Pakistan, we will repay the debt in kind. That’s how we will roll now.
