In the Asia Cup 2025 final at the Dubai International Stadium, Pakistan started strong with the bat before India’s bowlers pulled things back during the middle overs. But beyond the cricket, a fresh controversy unfolded when Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Haris Rauf in the 18th over and celebrated in a rather unusual fashion.

Bumrah, after cleaning up Rauf with a trademark yorker, mimicked the ‘jet down’ celebration. The gesture immediately drew comparisons with Haris’s own celebration from September 21, when he pointed towards the skies, hinting at Pakistan’s win in the war — symbolically linking it to the 6 Indian jets downed during the Pahalgam post-tensions. On that occasion, the ICC took notice and fined Haris 30% of his match fees.

This time, however, it was Bumrah who ended up on the wrong side of online reactions. Instead of being hailed, the Indian pacer has found himself at the centre of trolling from Pakistani fans, who see his act as a clumsy imitation that backfired. Many argue that what was once Haris’s original and symbolic gesture has now been reduced to mockery, with Bumrah “humiliating himself” by trying to copy it.

Should the ICC fine him for bringing politics into sport?

Who care about fine . It was beautiful celebration by Boom boom Bumrah. I'm proud off him:kp

I'm pretty sure Indians would have been timid as well had we been all over them after 16th over.

In fact I'm willing to pay his fine from my own pocket. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
It isn't about paying a fine - if you're not good enough in your core job. These things do not matter.

Captain clueless also made so much non-sense about handshake thing. It would not have mattered had we pounded India hard.

Anyways.

Whatever your "SKY" says. The match-up is pretty much there in T20I between two teams.

We've had some close encounters more recently in T20

Although it started from 2007 T20WC.

2021 - Pakistan won.

2022 Asia Cup - India won in last over and next game Pakistan won a thrilling chase.

2022 WC: Kohli pulled off insane chase.

2024 World Cup: We were actually winning that one until a collapse.

2025 Asia Cup: First two games were one-sided but the final was pretty much 50-50.

I think even us Pakistani fans at the match thread had a laugh when Bumrah did it.

Seems light hearted banter and not political.

There is no need to sensationalise everything. On a sports field emotions will spill out, players cannot be expected to be robots.

So your examples are when India won?

I love to remind people that a better team doesn't mean they will never be in trouble, it means they will find a way to win still.

The invincible Aussies didn't just thrash every team. They were often in trouble..they won a world cup semi final with a tie and went on to win the final. They needed a gillispie 200 to win a test against Bangla. They needed Kamran to miss run outs to win against Pak at home when they were 8 down.

One off loss in last decade and a half with some close matches is a sign of dominance

No they will not fine him, and they only fined SKY because they wanted to fine Pakistanis to satisfy BCCI.

Asia Cup 2025 – Players sanctioned for ICC Code of Conduct breaches

Media Release

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed the outcomes of several Code of Conduct proceedings arising from matches played during the ICC Asia Cup 2025.

The hearings were conducted by members of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees following incidents in the matches between India and Pakistan on 14, 21 and 28 September.

14 September 2025 – India vs. Pakistan

Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Richie Richardson:

  1. Suryakumar Yadav (India) was found guilty of a breach of Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to conduct that brings the game into disrepute. He was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and received two demerit points.
  2. S. Farhan (Pakistan) was found guilty of the same offence and was issued an official warning, receiving one demerit point.
  3. Haris Rauf (Pakistan) was also found guilty of the same offence and fined 30 per cent of his match fee, resulting in two demerit points.
21 September 2025 – India vs. Pakistan

Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft:

  1. Arshdeep Singh (India) was found not guilty of an alleged breach of Article 2.6, which pertains to using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting, and therefore no sanction was imposed.
28 September 2025 – Final, India vs. Pakistan

  1. Jasprit Bumrah (India) accepted a charge under Article 2.21 for conduct that brings the game into disrepute and the proposed sanction of an official warning, which resulted in one demerit point. As he accepted the sanction, no formal hearing was required.
  2. Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Richie Richardson, Haris Rauf (Pakistan) was again found guilty of a breach of Article 2.21. He was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and received two additional demerit points.
This takes Rauf’s total to four demerit points within a 24-month period, resulting in two suspension points under the ICC’s disciplinary framework. In accordance with the Code, Rauf is therefore suspended for Pakistan’s ODI games against South Africa on 4 and 6 November 2025.

Notes to Editors

  1. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
  2. When a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points.
  3. Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test match or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the player.
  4. Demerit points remain on a player’s disciplinary record for 24 months from their imposition and are then expunged.

Lol so that's why Rauf isn't in the ODI squad.

Good from ICC to punish players for this kind of nonsense but in the future I hope the punishment is more severe. Missing a few meaningless ODIs and being fined a percentage of your match fee is like a slap on the wrist.

The punishment should be severe enough to deter this kind of behavior in the future.

Those who mentioned war and Pahalgam directly and posted on their socials were not suspended. Peak hypocrisy. There were various gestures from Indians too.

:kp

Thank you ICC for doing a tremendous service to Pakistan. Please increase the ban for a year, getting Haris Rauf out of the team is only beneficial for Pakistan Cricket. He can take his spray gun bowling to domestic cricket.

Demerit points ‘not discussed’ during hearing in Haris Rauf case: sources

Pakistan’s right-arm speedster Haris Rauf was not informed regarding demerit points penalty during the hearing over alleged International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct breach, sources told Geo Super on Tuesday.

According to the insiders, the pacer was told that his penalty would be reduced if he accepted the offence. However, his refusal resulted in him being reprimanded for 30 per cent of his match fee.

Sources further suggested that the demerit points penalty did not come under discussion during the hearing and was added later without prior notice.

Since the 31-year-old was summoned for alleged breaches on two different occasions, a total of four demerit points were added to his disciplinary record, which resulted in him being suspended from the first two ODIs of the ongoing home series against South Africa.

It is pertinent to mention that the apex cricketing body, earlier today, slapped two players each from Pakistan and India for breaching its code of conduct during the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025, played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in September.

Pehelgam was a terrorist attack. Condemning that is not wrong on social media.

Should I remind how many Pakistani players posted mocking posts about the victims? None of them were punished for their social media either.

No one from either side was punished for social media. Only for their behavior on the field

I think saying something in a personal capacity is one thing. Bringing anything adverse onto a cricket field is quite another. All these players who become advocates for narrow political theatre on a cricket ground should receive a sanction of some sort. Things are really getting out of hand

Better not to play against each other in such times.

Hopefully no India-Pakistan in same group in T20 World Cup 2026.

Hari’s Raufs 6-0 as below
lost match to India on 14th
Lost match to India on 21st
lost match to India on 28th
Got badly thumped in the final
Got fine on his match fees
Suspended for 2 matches.

Well done 👏🏼 Hope it was worth it 👍

Once respect and sportsmanship goes out the window, the line of human decency becomes blurred. I am not aware of what was said between the players but it seems fairly obvious that alot of personal things were said, which is a shame. Because none of this stuff has any place in cricket; whether it's the political stunts, the immature gestures or the verbal abuse.

If you can't behave like professional athletes then there is no reason to play each other.

Remind us.

Which Pakistan player mocked Pahalgam victims on social media?

Yes please remind us. Because it seems you are here to add fuel to the fire. It’s already a shameful episode that two nations engage in petty political games in a major tournament on the field.

Faheem shared a meme of a pak soldier putting sindoor on an indian widow of pehelgam.

Abrar shared the tea meme which had no relation to this incident at all

Rizwan spoke about the war and praised his army.

None of those made fun of victims of Pahalgam. You have been caught lying once again.

A guy holding a t-shirt a Guy holding tea cup and a guy supporting his army. All social media posts and relatively innocuous posted month before a match. And you think this is comparable to onfield disgusting behaviour?

The post I was replying to was specifically asking for things in social media and not on the ground.

Putting a sindoor on wife of pehelgam victim is nothing to do with pehelgam. Got it. The meme faheem took the image from specifically mentions pehelgam
