Azhar Mahmood in a pre match press conference before the match against Canada:

"After two defeats, everyone is quite disheartened. Losing against India is more disappointing than a defeat against the USA," he said.

"At the moment, everyone's morale in the team is down, it's necessary to lift it as we can still bounce back and we won't lose hope until it's over," he added.

"Our shot selection wasn't right, which led to a run rate of 10. We were playing well until the 15th over. We lost as a team and can't blame individuals, he maintained.

"The responsibility of failure lies with the entire management, we all have made mistakes," he said.

"If a player starts doubting their ability, it becomes very difficult. If we play with confidence in ourselves, it will prove everyone wrong.

"Now there's no room for misunderstandings. If someone considers any opponent easy, they don't have a place in international cricket."

On the match vs Canada:

"There are players in Canada who can perform against us. We have to win this match at all costs now."

"Our decision making and short selection was quite questionable. Sometimes the shot is on but the choice of bowler that we pick to attack was not right."

On Pakistan's timid approach:

Everybody criticizes the strike rate of Babar Azam & Mohammad Rizwan but from the past two years, we've been losing too many wickets after the powerplay, even if we start well in the first six overs. When you play a big tournament, you definitely need a bit of luck on your side.

"We have used different players at different positions but unfortunately, most of our experiments in the batting order couldn't pay off. We certainly need a bit of calmness in the middle. We've to win the next two games."

"If you look at our batting line-up, Shadab Khan plays at number 8 and he can bat. Imad & Shadab in our line-up gives us the balance and you cannot rely on your tailenders to win you matches with the bat. If your top-order is not clicking then you can't expect the guys coming in next to win you games."

"As team management, we accept the blame and we've made mistakes and we have failed as a team."

On rift between Babar & Shaheen.

"There is nothing like that. Both are the stars of Pakistan and they are good friends."

On players enjoying in USA:

"Cricket is played on the field. We're an emotional nation and there is life outside of cricket as well. If you lose a cricket match then it doesn't mean that your life is over. If you sit alone in a room after losing a game then how does it help? Everybody is following the diet plan."

"If you're playing for your country then you can't be complacent. USA & Canada have some good players and they have played first-class cricket in other countries as well. In T20Is you can't take any team lightly and this is our time to show some character."

"We can try new faces against Canada but I am not sure. We will have to do everything to win the next game because it's a do-or-die game for us. We need to be mentally ready for the game. Physical practice doesn't help much. Preparing for the game mentally matters."

This is where I don't understand this mindset.

On what planet is Shadab and Imad batters? They are tailenders. Once in a blue moon innings against a minnow doesn't count :ROFLMAO:

the entire madness of pakistani cricket strategy can be boiled down to the fact that shadab has been treated as a full time batsman since he slog swept rashid for a six. one shot, that's all it took.

Bla bla bla.
Does Azhar not see what the players eat? Is he blind or what, they act and behave like tourists.

He's reflecting back the panic and depression that is in the dressing room.

I believe he is saying the truth mostly.

theres videos of fast food being bought in, azam khan eating hot dogs. What diet is being followed. Why is wahab riaz there on taypayers money? Why was Azhar bought back even after he was atrocious as a bowling coach last time and made our player forget how to bowl short? List goes on and on

The morale of the team depends upon June 14 now. If Ireland manages to beat USA and India wins all its games, only than Pakistan goes to the next round.

Its funny how even after losing 2 gams, we still have a chance.

Like no matter how bad of team we are, the fact that we still have a pulse amazes me every time we go into an ICC tournament.

azam khan eating hot dogs -- for real?? Besides unhealthy it is also Haram! Does he not know what is in hot dogs or he probably does not care?

still teams will qualify on the highest run rate so for that Pakistan should aim to beat canada with good margin to improve ther NRR

Eating hot dogs when he's a big boy is bad
But why does halal come into it
A) he might not strictly eat halal and that's his choice
B) there are halal sausages

But I agree he really doesn't care about his diet from a weight pov

This is not going to happen as well. Pakistan might lose the remaining games as well. We are that pathetic as a team now. No more hopes.

There's no pride in this team. Bunch of charlatans meanwhile Indian cricketers are de facto soldiers

Lol there are halal hot dogs as well. Not all of them are made from pork. But anyway, I'm wondering where this video is. I'd love to have a laugh

It was a big mistake we have this azhar mahmood as a bowling coach.

Dont know why Gillespie is just a test coach when we hardly play any tests .

Sorry what ? Emotional nation ?

Team is the laughing stock of the world. The fans are justified.

We lost as a team and can't blame individuals, he maintained.
how can you lose as a team when you didn't even play as a team during the game ?

Most of the hot dog vendors in NY sell halal hot dogs

I think we should get out of this halal and haram talk. Food conversation is not for this thread, please stay on topic.

What a pathetic press conference.

First of, the captain should be the one speaking. Babar ran away from the post match conference against India and now he has ran away from the pre match conference against Canada. Pathetic.

Being the captain, you are required to face the music. You can send the coach in once, but to do this twice now?

So let me guess, if we pull off a miracle win off Canada, babar will be doing press again?

Disheartening now after loses yes why not when you chose to persist with Azam khan and Ifthikar Ahmed , I’m happy atleast they dropped them now.

In the 50 over WC Ifthikar continued to play all the matches failure after failure.

He is not in the slips today and catches are taken, then raises the question who are you playing for Babar by keep on backing ur non performing TTF friends

I think he is there for translation as well. Then it’s better to make Shaan Masood all format captain , no translator needed

So more disappointing losing to a no.1 ranked side than the world no.18 with part-time cricketers. Ok!

“…losing against India is more disappointing than a defeat against the USA"

Fans have the right to opine with fewer consequences. But when a analyst, far less a former player, says this you have to wonder if they’re deluded.

I mean seriously? In what world is Azhar living? Is the quality gap between India and Pakistan so less that a defeat was more disappointing than a loss versus the frikkin’ USA? Does Pakistan undervalue themselves so much in his eyes?

After two defeats, everyone is quite disheartened. Losing against India is more disappointing than a defeat against the USA,

What a ridiculous statement

Then don't play international sport.
