Sarfaraz Ahmed presser before T20Is against SL:

"I took a chance to bat higher up the order in the previous match. In T20s, I bat at #4 and that is my number"

"I won't say their main players didn't come, whatever it is, their main team has come and their players are good potential wise. Even after getting 5 out, they made 230 and in the previous match they made almost 300. In T20s, you can't take any team lightly whether it's #1 oe #8. Whichever team plays better on the day will win"

"If we look ahead then most limited-over matches are T20s. So based on that we have made our team and a few players have made comebacks. Ahmed Shehzad had brilliant performances, Umar Akmal and Faheem Ashraf have also come back. We will look ahead to the World Cup and try and give players chances at their preferred positions so that we know our best 15 players for the World Cup"

"When I came to the ground, I was looking at the dew and at 6pm you can see the dew. Toss will play a factor so in the 2nd innings it will be quite a lot so toss is important"

"The security is tough for people but it's for our own safety. It is a little difficult but if we can endure it then hopefully cricket will come back to Pakistan. So I'd like to request everyone to turn up to the stadium to watch the match, as they did with PSL and other recent tours"

"Hasnain is player who can be our star bowler in future because he has pace and ability. His development is in progress. We have kept him with the team. We wanted to give him a chance but it was a 3 ODI series and one was washed out so we went with our best possible team for those matches and he didn't fit in that team. But in T20s, you will see him in the playing XI"

"Shadab is going for runs but I still believe he is one of our best bowlers, good and bad times come for everyone. My full support is with Imad and Shadab. Shadab is bowling well now also, he got hit a bit on a good pitch which can happen with any bowler but the good thing is that he bowls wicket-taking balls. I know he is a match-winning bowler. Imad is also bowling well, Nawaz has come back, Iftikhar is doing well so we will support these bowlers and they will hopefully do well for Pakistan"

"Congratulations to Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad for making comebacks. Both are very talented players and have made spots in the team for themselves with performances. It's good for Pakistan that players who have done well in the past have an opporunity again. As a captain, I will try to give them maximum chances. They are players who can win you matches when they stay at the crease. I wish them the best and hope they perform well for Pakistan. Players can be in and out but now they are back. I think they can play well for Pakistan. In my team QG, they played an important part in our victories. I am hopeful that they will perform well for the team"

"We will pick the best playing XI and try to give chances to all the players"

"I know when I spend some time at the crease, a big innings isn't far away. In the last match I tried to spend some time on the wicket"

"Mickey Arthur had his own opinions, he wanted players to perform well for Pakistan and he wanted Pakistan cricket to go forward"

"PCB have stated they will review captaincy after every series so whoever they opt to make captain is their choice, we will focus on playing the matches"

"I haven't reduced weight, I have reduced my fat levels. The weight is the same"

Both are OK players but neither has the talent or brains to make a mark. UA has more talent but is like a child in a man's body, his behavior reminds me of a kid with ADHD.

Umar and Ahmed have played 370 times for Pakistan.

How many matches have they won for their country?

History...is...repeating...itself.

Sarfarz said almost exactly the same thing about Hafeez and Malik before the World Cup - something like 'they are the backbone of our team'. Look how that turned out

Every time Pakistan has invested in youth recently, it has paid off. Barber, Harris, Imad, Fakhar, Imam, Shaheen, Shadab, Hassan Ali, Fakeem, Abid Ali - sure some of these guys have had poor performances, but they have also won Pakistan games and some of these names are absolute superstars.

All of this was possible only because Inzi let go of failures lile Shehzad and Akmal. Their reintroduction is nothing short of disgraceful. Misbah will never change.

I wouldn't be surprised if Akmal or Shehzad made some runs against the Lankans. However, the Lankans are, at the best of times, a poor side. This Mickey mouse team aren't event that.

More than Umar and Shehzad can ever dream of winning.

The only meaningful T20 Misbah won us was the 2007 T20 WC group stage game vs Aus when we chased 160 odd.

Shehzad to date has scored the only T20 hundred for Pakistan in 2014 World T20...

The only superstar from your list is “Barber” - Haris is great too but needs longevity in the side. The rest are rubbish (I guess Shaheen / Abid are decent prospects...)

Sarfi will be saying the same thing prior to WC23 after both are kicked out and then brought back. This cycle may repeat for another 10 years.

More than Umar and Shehzad can ever dream of winning.

How many hundreds and match winning knocks has Misbah scored though in comparison to these two?

Having said that I don't want Shehzad back in the side.

Umar Akmal on the other hand walks into this T20I side.

Pakistan's downhill in the first half of the 2010s was primarily due to Misbah's incompetence as skipper and selfishness with the bat. Key examples are the Mohali 2011 WC (as a batsman) and 2013 CT (as a captain).

Not to also forget Misbah's SR in ODIs was in the 70s during the 2013 CT, 2014 calendar year and 2015 WC.

We can't keep turning to failed ex players. Time to try some new blood now.

We can safely say that Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad are not those people Sarfaraz thinks they are!

Happy now? Got the Akmal and Shehzad special performance you were hoping for? You might not rate our youngsters but Fakhar and Harris are centuries ahead of known FAILURES Akmal and Shehzad.

by playing a combined total of 10 balls only (hence leaving enough overs for remaining batsmen) they surely did their part in helping pakistan win the game

The same vicious cycle.

Serial match losers.

We finally started making some progress in LOIs. But this is just going backwards.

With Hafeez and Malik being sidelined, it was an opportunity to try new players.

But this is just sad.

Next, kamran akmal, and these types of TTFs will be recalled.

Then we will hear about how we are in rebuilding phase.

How is it rebuilding, if you are trying same failure players???

The last time Sarfraz gave this kind of statement was about Hafeez and Malik being the batting backbone at the WC.

And we’ve replaced those two batting greats with Shezad and Umar Akmal to keep the backbone strong it seems.

It takes 2 legends to replace 2 other legends :)

A spineless yes-man and lackadaisical coach have been thoroughly exposed.

These two are a virus. First game back and look at the state of this team. Complete shambles

Another match winning performance by the two today. Sarfaraz should really thank the media mafia who got him into the team after scoring a ***** ton against Ireland in the 2015 WC. This guy can't bat, can't keep and most importantly doesn't think before talking.

So what did the others to today to merit any praise? :13:

We all speak of hafeez, Malik, shehzad and Umar Akmal being ttf‘s, but it’s pretty clear now that Sarfraz is also one.

So what did the others to today to merit any praise? :13:

 typical reaction of a Shehzad and Akmal fan. Try and point out faults in others rather than accept responsibility for their own mistakes.

Two guys sitting on the bench today were Harris and Fakhar. The fact that hacks called Shehzad and Akmal played in their place is a travesty.

insanity to select them

Why do you expect things to change in their 10th comeback when nothing positive happened in the previous nine comebacks

Safaraz Ahmed in his post match presser:

"As far as the topic of Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad is concerned, previously they have had good performances in domestic season and also done well in PSL"

"As I had said before, whichever players we bring into the squad will be given adequate chances"

"They are good players and will perform well in the future"

Such an idiot running the show. Cant believe this guy was given dual roles lol. Let them play the next 2 matches and win the series.. clueless captain once and now a clueless coach cum selector

Maybe Sarfaraz was behind the selection of Umar & Shahzad?

Sarfi is the greatest “Yes man” captain. He haven’t learned anything from the worldcup. He keep giving chances to usless TTFs and keep saving the management.

These are probably Sarfraz' selections, Umar and Shehzad are both in his PSL team. I agree partly though, Misbah should've intervened as he gets the final say in selections.

As usual meddling and backing rubbish from the captain

When was the last time Umar Akmal won Pakistan a game? I can't remember.

An out of form Fakhar is 5 times better than a TTF like Shehzad.

Sarfraz is losing it now.

Umar akmal against Australia in 2014 TtWC in Bangladesh but i agree with you all 3 must be kicked out off the team.

Haris could have done well at no. 3 today given the situation and loss of Babar early but Fakhar is a hack and as far as I’m concerned no better than Shehzad.

His fluke CT century withstanding - his true value and struggles were shown in the WC. He might be given a chance in the 2nd T20 but I don’t expect any better outcome...

Why did he drop fakhar and haris to give chances to akmal and shehzad. :wy must be happy now

We all expected the outcome which was delivered by the legendary shehzad. If u happened to be his fan in the past for his few hundreds u can still change and even saying so he hasnt done anything close to fakhar to even compare. That is not a fluke century by the way and 20 times better opener than shehzad. No one rates shehzad tuk tuk as an opener except u

Well the number of matches these two buffoons had lost shud definitely be more than they won for sure. Cant believe these two still have fans, i believe the fans of shehzad and akmal are not pak fans as because they knowingly want them to play so pak will lose every single game.

Nothing against Fakhar and Harris, they are good players but get your facts straight they are not youngsters and older than Umar and Shahzad lol

This was a perfect opportunity to give some youngsters a go but no. We had to revert back to the two “match winners.”

The sample size is too small. I need to see another 200 matches of failure before dispensing of these two permanently.

PCB Logic.

Umar is too dumb for international cricket. It is simply not going to work.

His fans blame everyone under the sun but him, even though it is abundantly clear that he doesn’t have the mental capacity to perform. Shehzad’s case is complicated. I was a vocal critic at a time when he was rated highly, but now I see the good player in him who is being held back by his fear of failure. This sounds cliched but I think it is probably true. He is too worried about losing his place in the side.

If Misbah thinks that he is worth an extended run in the team than he should give him a decent opportunity without removing him from the side. Also, dropping him from the Test team was a farcical decision. He didn’t do anything in that format to deserve the ax, and it was purely a reaction to his poor Limited Overs form.

Let me translate that:

"I was a vocal critic when everyone might have thought he would turn out to be a good player, but now I see an opportunity to support this player that nobody rates anymore so I can make a series of attention-seeking posts"

You can say what you want, but I cannot explain and elaborate the same points in every thread. Call it attention-seeking if you want to have your moment in the sun. Go ahead, have the last word.

I already know I can say what I want.

There are no elaborate points in the world that could ever redeem rubbish like Ahmed Shehzad.

Keep the sun to yourself attention-seeker, I'm just stating facts here :yk

Defo both match winners for opposition team right now

Need to be patient, helpful and understanding towards Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal, it was their first game in the comeback, its always hard, need more chances to show their calibre

Yeah its not like the millions of others times they have been tried and tested werent hard

Solely for the purposes of keeping a balanced XI, I wouldn't have minded only Umar in the team as Fakhar and Babar would be the openers. Unless Shehzad would've been ok with batting down the order, he just wouldn't fit.

Someone was saying during the match that Shehzad's technique is as good s Haris and Babar's. Standing and swinging your bat at a good length ball at 6th stump is amazing technique.

This should hopefully be the last time we ever see these 2 clowns and national embarrassments wearing the Pakistan jersey.

Maybe Sarfaraz was behind the selection of Umar & Shahzad?

I don’t think so. We didn’t see them when MA was there even after good PSL only UA was tried in ODI series against Aus at UAE to see how he does perform as they were looking for power hitter down the order , competing with Asif Ali. UA pathetic fitness + Akon concert saw him kicked out as usual.

This was purely Misbah selections trying to give chances to his buddies at home against Srilanka B side to revive their careers. Look at how far he has gone. He has dropped Fakhar and Haris to give chances to these uselesss TTFs + Abid and Imam was not selected for t20s so that shehzad can be selected

I agree with that but they are not debutants + playing against a Srilanka b side at your home ground Lahore. Can’t ask any better opportunity than this to make a strong comeback. Having said that on what basis was their comeback. How much did they score recently and how fast have Ahmed scored. For UA how fit he is first of all, has he shredded his pot belly. Why Abid, Hussain talat, Farhan, were dropped. Umar amin also had a good PSL he won a match for his team under pressure after losing early wickets if I rmb correctly , he can also be given a chance and he bats better than shehzad in terms of strike rate

Home t20s are the best time and opportunity to try out youngsters like rizwan hussain, Saud shakeel, Nasir nawaz, Amad butt, nasim shah, asghar, etc. If Misbah is not doing that then he is not better than any other chief selectors in the past certainly not better than Inzi. He doesn’t deserve a dual role,he has been crowned like a superstar saviour whatever u call it.

For how long will we be patient with these two numpties? They have time and again only let us down, with no performance to back their continuous comebacks.

I find it rich that a guy who bashes Fakhar Zaman has so much patience for no-hope hacks like Shehzad and Umar Akmal.

The catch Umar took made me laugh. Shehzad was desperate to get involved and try to catch it and between them they nearly messed it up.

Shahzad is an imposter. You have to be clueless as captain coach and selector to think these two deserve to play international cricket.

Blame should be firmly rested at the door of Sarfraz and Misbah for picking them. We already knew these guys were going to fail. After WC, Pak taking one step forward and three steps back.

Shehzad T20 career: 26.03 AVG 115.16 SR (played in his prime)

Our current openers:
Fakhar - 25.79 AVG 138.51 SR
Babar - 52.50 AVG 128.96 SR (and he is someone we somehow criticize for playing too slow when his SR is significantly better than both Shehzad and Akmal, as an opener and with an incredibly high AVG.

Akmal T20 career: 26.40 AVG 122.81 SR (played in his prime and primarily batted in 4th/5th/6th position). Somehow his SR is only 111 batting at 6, which seems almost incomprehensible for someone batting low at the order. Akmal best spot is 5th career wise, where he has a 26.9 AVG 133.16 SR.

Can Pakistan please hire an analytics department or maybe just have people that actually at stat sheets?

It’s ridiculous that they selected these two over Fakher and Haris. Our team management really need to look at this.

Sarfraz also backed Shehzad by saying that if he settles in the team, they won’t be able to find a better opening batsmen then him!

What about Babar and Fakhar!? I thought we all agreed that they are the best T20 openers we have.

The question also arises if Sarfraz knew so well that Akmal and Shezad are match winners why did you not take them with you to the World Cup? You could have then had 4 (or 5 including Sarfraz himself) match winners in the same batting line up with Hafeez, Shezad, Akmal, Shoaib Malik and Sarfraz forming the Top 5.

Who needs Imam/Babar/Fakhar In the presence of such match winners and batting backbone strengthening assets.

Very good point and one that should have been posed to Sarfraz when he made that statement.

The reason is simple. Misbah had a influence in this decision just like Mickey had it in the world cup.

Maybe Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad are only match-winners in the month of October.

These 2 legends have played 100s of matches yet have made zero progress in terms of technique, game-management, temperament and the ability to win matches.

I barely follow Pakistan cricket anymore. So it was a real mean surprise seeing Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad’s names in this T20. And then I remembered why I do not follow Pakistan cricket anymore.
