Ahmed Shehzad post-doping ban - Comeback Watch

After a weak start to the PSL, he made a strong comeback and ended up with a match winning performance in the final with the highest score of 99 for his team.

Get this lad back in the team already. :yk

Do you think he could be a good #3 for our test team?

Well done.

Most consistent bat of the tourney.

Def needs to be in the convo for selection in T20s.

Hope it goes into the longer formats but he has disappointed so much that I don't expect it.

I ll play shehzad over fakhar any day of the week.

My team for world cup ll be:

1 Ahmed shehzad
2 Imam ul haq/ fakhar zaman
3 Babar azam
4 Sarfraz ahmed
5 mohammad hafeez/ shoaib malik
6 umar akmal
7 asif ali ( a must if u want to chase big totals)
8 shadab khan
9 hassan ali/ mohammad husnain
10 mohammad amir/ mohammad husnain
11 shaheen shah afridi/ mohammad husnain

Do you think he could be a good #3 for our test team?

He should be our number 3 in all formats. Babar should start opening because hes really good at power plays but has a weaker power game whereas Shehzad who is an accumulator like Babar but has a good power game and therefore wont get bogged down in non power play overs.

You can't be serious. Shahzad getting dropped was the reason we won the ct.

Oops thats a bowler short there, my bad.

You can't keep Lala's friends down for long. Like a Phoenix, he will rise from the ashes of failed conspiracies against him and set the cricketing world on :aag.

No way he is coming back.

ATM it is

Fakhar
Imam

Shan
Abid

And only three of the above will go to the WC.

Is anyone seriously watching his "comeback"?

He has been looking good recently.

I think Watson and the Karachi crowd will have something to say about his running between the wickets. The Mohammed Yousuf/Mohammed Hafeez school of hit the ball to fielder and run issue still plagues Shehzad.

That said, on his recent form I want him added to the squad for the Aus series.

Oh boy, this again. We've already been through this. This bowling machine product will not do anything in international cricket. He's too easy to cramp up for room. When teams play series, they can focus in on every player's weakness. This is why he gets exposed every time.

Players should be selected on the basis of current form.

He has been class. I have always supported him even when he had a poor start to this year’s PSL.

Cant believe he couldnt make it to our ordinary batting line up.

Any league in which the likes of Akmals shehzad & wahab shine in should not be taken seriously.

Still remember Shehzad in CT pak was literally playing with 10 men.. once he was booted out pak won the tournament.

Seems like has had a reasonable tournament with a fifty in the finals. So he is doing alright since his comeback.

Once Pakistan inducted Fakhar, we started doing well. There was no point playing Azhar and Shehzad at the top. Revisionism at its best. Fakhar made the real difference.

Let him play in the T20 leagues and domestic cricket for a year or so to prove himself. He has been a failure at international level so far, there is no indication that the things have changed on that front.

IF he ever plays for PAK again bw ready to see him score at a might 65odd SR.

International teams have worked him out.

He looks visibly improved , like he is playing more on backfoot and is not committing on front foot for almost every ball , not playing any stupid hoicks of late and seems to putting price over his wicket however his strike rotation is still not improved much but at least he is not throwing it away.

Spot on.

Sad thing is Inzi might just select him.

Media pressure.

Easy prediction: he will show the same mediocre skills he showed before he was dropped.

Probably.

One can hope, given he has done really well in domestic, but chances are in all likelihood he fails.

I hope I am wrong.

Please dont be so pessimistic. You should listen to his PSL final interview. You should relate with his desire to do something impactful for Pakistan and leave his name in the history books. He admits that he messed up and got the big stage too early in his age but is now ready to make amends.

To be fair to the lad 311 runs in 8 innings, average of 51.83 and at a strike-rate of 126.93 are pretty decent numbers.

To be fair he has been given more than his fair share of chances. He started his career sensationally but had a steep decline thereafter. Given his start, selector after selector stuck with him, but he made a habit of throwing away chances. Lots of ducks. Lots of 10-20 scores and that too at 50 strike rate. His eventual exclusion from the team was justified and, as others have said, was the single biggest reason for us winning the Champions Trophy.

All of that said, I am all for Shehzad of old and if that is what he has become now, get him in the team!

Just had a look at Shezhad’s ODI strike rate throughout his career. His peak strike rate 77 but that is after his eighth game. His strike rate for the most part was in the early seventies. He was never an aggressive player and we don’t need a player like him who can’t rotate the strike.

But no 'LOL' for the guy with the strike-rate belonging to the 80s? :13:

You gotta believe in the talent. :afridi

Shan And Imam are far better. Don’t know about Abid

LOL @ Shan being better, the guy cannot play anything other than tests. Has no power game. Has no strike rotation. And who knows, maybe even the SA series end up being a purple patch or fluke.

Imam on the other hand makes the team on merit but i see Shehzad as a replacement to him provided he fails.

Also, i personally want Shehzad to play on 1 down position. Not as an opener.

So Babar should open due to this hack. Shehzad was rubbish, is rubbish and will be rubbish. It's a fact a bitter one for his fans to follow. Shehzad has a strike rate of 70+. Tail enders have better then that.

No need to get mad bro. :yk

Everyone has a right to their opinion and so do you no matter how wrong and biased. :afridi

Yeah, that’s why he has one of the highest List A averages of all time

Trouble with Fakhar is, teams have started to figure him out. They are cramping him with short pitch balls and he doesn't see to have an answer. I have faith in him - to evolve his game - but at the moment, he isn't doing half as well as he was at the start of his career.

Which makes room for Shehzad.

Shan is the back up opener, not Shehzad

Ahmed Shehzad who started the day at the score of 22, was dismissed after scoring 63 from 168 balls with eight fours for Central Punjab

Back in the T20I side for 3-match series vs Sri Lanka

Pakistan’s T20I series against Sri Lanka, which commences from Saturday, comes with an opportunity for many youngsters to leave a mark with a year remaining in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.

For Ahmed Shehzad, however, this is a chance to reclaim a spot which he once he held firmly. He last donned Pakistan colours in June 2018 in a T20I series against Scotland.

To be back in the squad after a gap of over 14 months, Ahmed says, feels like to be wearing Pakistan’s kit for the first time.

“I am thankful to the Almighty that I have gotten an opportunity to represent the Pakistan team once again,” Ahmed told pcb.com.pk ahead of joining the 16-member squad in Lahore. “For me, this opportunity feels like I am wearing the Pakistan’s kit for the first time.

“I am extremely excited I will get an opportunity to play cricket at my home ground and in front of my people. It cannot get any bigger for me to be playing cricket in front of my people. Our people are passionate about the game. It unites us and people pray for our success.”

Ahmed, who made his Pakistan debut in 2009, comes back in the national set-up at the back of a prolific HBL Pakistan Super League earlier this year. The right-handed opener scored 311 runs at an impressive average of 51.83 – the best amongst the top 10 run-getters in the 2019 edition.

He scored fifties in half of his eight innings in the tournament, with an unbeaten 51-ball 58 in the final against Peshawar Zalmi at the National Stadium, Karachi which helped Quetta Gladiators to their maiden title.

“It is not easy to be making a comeback in the Pakistan side for the fifth-sixth time. Getting dropped again and again doesn’t reflect well. But, where this is a negative, to keep coming back in the side is a positive. It demands ticking a lot of boxes and for that a lot of improvement has to be made.”

He remains the only Pakistan batsman to hit a century in the shortest format at the international level, a feat he achieved against Bangladesh during the 2014 World T20. The 27-year-old is looking to make the most of the opportunity at hand and hopes it will help him secure spots in the national line-up for the other formats too.

“I have some fond memories of international T20 cricket, but this is a new beginning for me and I have to grab this opportunity with both hands and make sure I don’t take anything for granted.

“T20I is my favourite, but my ultimate favourite is Test cricket. But, at the moment, I am looking to perform in whichever format I am getting chances.

“I want to contribute to the dressing room and bring in positivity by educating the youngsters and help them stay away from the mistakes that I made.”

I'd rather have Awais Zia cos if you're going to play hacks, at least play some proper hacks.

Ahmad Shahzad was never a hack... he had more determination to stay at the wicket and put a prize on his wicket than any batsmen in last 15 years to play for pak (Bar Misbah and Azhar) ....

Can live with him and actually could be useful if he stops being a show off and reduces his dot ball %

much much million miles better than the brainless slogger the junior akmal

If his ego was not that huge he would actualy succeed as a batsmen. What has held him back is his mindset.

gotta say before he got hit on the head he looked like he would have a pretty long and steady career.
Honestly i think he deserves another chance. Especially in test cricket. I hope he has improved his run making game for the shorter formats. He looks lean and fit so lets see..his last PSL wasnt much to write home about though..

His stats before being hit on the head and after being hit on the head were pretty similar so I don’t know why you are trying to rewrite history. In fact his first innings after his return was a century.

Heck the bouncer was by Corey Anderson who bowls in the low 80s miles per hour so it wasn’t express bowling either and he shouldn’t have been hit in the first place.

Only Lord knows how he would negotiate a bouncer by Jofra Archer then...

He has his chance now, all on him to prove the people wrong.

Agree. Legal in welfare state Canada.

How is Canada relevant? It's illegal in Pakistan, and against the Code of Conduct of the PCB.

Its not doping, but Shehzad was rightfully punished

Lets see how he does today - nothing in the pitch so good chance to get a big score

Some things never change.

What a poor innings. No timing, no placement and then a lousy shot to get out.

Misbah speaking to the media today:

"Ahmed got chances, he couldn't perform but we will monitor his performances going forward. We have time for the World Cup so we will review our team make-up"

He should get chances in ODI's. He will get opportunities again.

60 for Ahmed Shehzad for Central Punjab vs Sindh in Round 5 of QEA (1st innings)

Ahmed shehzad 100 (11*4)of 148 balls in 191 minutes for Central Punjab v Southern Punjab

He should get chances in ODI's. He will get opportunities again.

He such a slow scorer in limited overs. Cannot pierce gaps, unable to rotate strike!

Gets away with it in domestic cricket.

But the issues remain when he faces International bowlers, nothing has changed. Well done to Shezad on keeping his fitness game up, only if spent more time fixing his batting flaws.

100 and 100* in the last round of QEA to get his average for the season up to 40, from 24 before this round.

issslooow and ishteady is Ahmed Shehzad vs IU at NSK

7 off 11 for Ahmed Shehzad in his first PSL 2020 innings - typical?

I do not even feel bad for him anymore. How can he not realize that he just sets himself up for failure EVERY SINGLE TIME?! Dot dot dot... big hit results in a wicket. If a batsman is SO THICK that he can't see a pattern here, he does not deserve a place in the side regardless of anything else.
