Pakistan opening batsman Ahmad Shahzad, who hasn't been able to perform consistently in the last few years, is planning to consult a psychologist to regain his form.

He is going to consult a British psychologist Dr Taimoor after finishing National T20 Cup, reports the Express Tribune.

Shahzad, who made his ODI debut for Pakistan in 2009, started well in his career but the right-handed batsman has been struggling with form since past few years.

He also failed to display a promising show in the recently concluded Sri Lanka series in UAE and thus was replaced by left-handed batsman Imamul Haq in the ODI series.

It was also reported that Shehzad's poor performance in 2016 World T20I led to a PCB committee suggesting a ban on him.

Seeing Shahzad's dip in form, Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur advised him to consult a psychologist to regain the disappearing boost.

Young Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad suffered a fractured skull after being hit by a Corey Anderson bouncer in a dramatic dismissal on the second day of a cricket test against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi.

Shehzad also suffered a fractured skull after being hit by a New Zealand's Corey Anderson's bouncer in a Test match in Abu Dhabi and it is said that the Pakistan cricketer has been witnessing a bad form since then. (ANI)

Can a psychologist help with strike rotation? Which for me is his biggest problem or If its a fear of fast bowling then some progress could be made but his issues are more technical and i dont think that a psychologist can help with those. He would be better off with someone like Mike Brierley who is a psychologist and a cricketer.

Interesting to note that he just scored a half century in the National T20 Cup.

I wonder if he met the psychologist before or after this tournament? Cause and effect?

Absolutely, psychiatriss generally mess up things. Their first job is to convince the person he has psychiatric problem.

There is a big difference between a psychologist and psychiatrist ... a sports psychologist should be working with pcb on full time

Instead he should read Pakpassion comments and analyze whats needs to be done!!!!

The Psychologist needs to recommend him a change of career - That'll essentially be the best outcome for everyone involved in this !!

Some very cruel posts here.

All the best to Ahmad. If he feels this is the problem with his batting, he is doing a good job to fix it.

This. At least the guy is making a conscientious effort to improve himself even if he is extremely limited as a player.

Goodluck to him though, psychological help is the right way to go about it.

Some motivational therapy/Cognitive behavorial therapy can bridge the gap between 'can and do'

There is no harm going to see a psychologist as he can give some mental exerricse that do help relieve stress and anxiety specially when the stressor is related to your field

Remember he's not going to a psychiatrist - who prescribes medicine for depression/schizophrenia

He can contact Dr Phil Jauncey who worked with Tigers and made them a world beating team.

This is absolute **.

Why would anyone know he's seen a psychologist?

Easy, because him, and his management have released the ** to the media. This is how players work in Pakistan now. Instead of seeing a psychologist being a very personal matter, they use it as propaganda to convince the fans:

A) He's now fixed and ready for another chance (As if a few weeks of sessions could fix him [If he even had a few weeks which is unlikely]. Ronnie O Sullivan needed years with the best sports psychologist in the world. And he's possibly the greatest player in his game anyway!)
B) The issue was with his psychology rather then with his ability (which I believe is quite mediocre anyway).

Absolutely hate these sort of articles and claims. Go score a 1000 runs in 10-15 matches in a domestic test season before running to the media.

Pathetic attempt.

Very good decision by Shehzad, if he can improve mentally and stop his addiction of dot balls then he can be a great opener for us

Once again it shows why Mickey Arthur is the right coach for Pakistan. Instead of just dropping someone or criticizing them he is trying to give them something to work on.

Umar Akmal might get offended but i think it would really help him as well to clear things up or simply things.

Ahmed Shehzad's issues are all mental.

His batting is different from what it used to be.

A psychologist can help him go to the point where it changed and hopefully press reset.

Despite all the brutal criticism that has come his way, rightfully some may say, he has kept trying. More power to him.
