Ahsan Raza looks a very competent umpire i expect him to get in Elite panel soon and challenge likes of Aleem dar, asad rauf and taufel....

I am impressed by his umpiring ..... as an umpire was a notch above every umpire that umpired in this series

survivor of that fatal attack in 2009, he has come a long way really!

good to see he doesnt buy into Srilankan appealing /bullying :murali

Strange that NONE of Pakistan's matches will be at a broadcast venue! Note that above is only for First round

I am guessing so although we should wait for the announcement

:)))

Um aur player kahaan se laygaa baba? :gul

lol .. is it permitted ?

Well it's called under-19 for a reason, so I doubt it's allowed. :))

Not sure how current this is but found this:

To compete in the ICC U19 CWC Players from Full Member countries must be
under the age of 19 on the 1st of September before the event takes place and
Players from Associate or Affiliate Member countries must be under the age of 20
on the 1st of September before the event takes place. (For the avoidance of doubt
this means that at midnight (in the country of birth) at the changeover from the
31st August to the 1st of September immediately before the event, players from Full Member countries must be under the age of 19 and players from Associate
and Affiliate Member countries must be under the age of 20. If Members are
in any further doubt as to the eligibility of a player they should contact ICC
offices as fielding an ineligible player is a serious offence.)

How do you guys rate Ahsan Raza as an umpire?

He is considered one of the best umpires in our domestic cricket, how do you guys rate his umpiring at international level?

I would say he is amongest the best. He doesn't act patriotic, and gives the same treatment to every player. Even as a third umpire, he follows the rules, and doesn't give any unfair advantage to pakistan.

pathetic. Didnt gave plumb lbw of Amla in the first innings.

in the next innings, wided Imran tahir when the ball had clipped pads of Maqsood

Ahsan Raza Umpiring Thread

He has been a very good and fair umpire, but the decision he gave against Sharjeel Khan, was a fantastic and brave decision, even when the appeal wasn't that convincing. He isn't patriotic, he is very fair.

Looks like another good Pakistani Umpire

It was a bad decision. No good umpire will give this OUT.

I think he was nearly killed in that attack on the Sri Lankan side in 2009. He looks like a very decent umpire.

I still don't get how he's umpiring in a Pakistan game.

Ya he is a top umpire may be ICC should add him as Test umpire is certainly better than Davies Bowden etc

Ahsan Raza feels honored to supervise the first international series since March 2009

Karachi: Umpire Ahsan Raza, who survived the deadly militants attack on the Sri Lankan team and match officials in Lahore six years ago, still remembers the day as a nightmare.

"I still remember that day, those minutes when our coach was attacked is one of the worst nightmares of my life. But even after that incident I just kept on praying that someday international cricket will return to Pakistan," the international umpire said in an interview.

Raza was travelling with match referee Chris Broad, field umpire Simon Taufel and the TV and reserve umpires when the militants opened fire on their coach.

"I vividly remember all of us getting on the floor but one bullet grazed my shoulder and another one went through my stomach and I lost consciousness," he said.

Raza underwent a life-saving operation as there were fears his kidneys might have been damaged.

"But somehow I survived and today it is a big honor for me that I am going to supervise matches of the first international series in Pakistan since that black day," Raza said.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has been forced to appoint its own umpires for the series of two T20 and three ODIs after the ICC declined to send its match officials for the series against Zimbabwe because of security concerns.

Luckily for Pakistan, Cricket Zimbabwe has sent former test umpire, Russel Tiffin with the touring side and he will stand in all three ODIs.

"It has not been easy for stakeholders in Pakistan cricket and difficult for us to tell the world that we can play international cricket in Pakistan despite all the problems. So for Pakistan cricket the Zimbabwe tour is a breakthrough," he added.

The PCB has also been forced to appoint national selector, Azhar Khan as the match referee for the series.

The portly umpire said he foresaw an exciting series when Zimbabwe plays Pakistan despite all the stringent security measures.

"Hopefully the cricket will be exciting because at the end of the day people must enjoy the game," he added.

Pakistani umpire, Aleem Dar said he was happy to be a part of a series that could be ground breaking for Pakistan cricket.

"For us the situation we have faced in the last six years I think this series is for us like we are starting off as new cricket nation," Dar said.

Bullet went through his stomach :O . Glad he survived the operation.

And still he prayed for cricket to return to this land. Speaks about the man and his passion for the country, as opposed to those who sell themselves in foreign countries :asadrauf

‘My wounds remind me of the gruesome incident’- Umpire Ahsan Raza on the 2009 Sri Lanka bus-attack

March 3, 2009- The day turned out to be a dreadful one in the history of Pakistan cricket. The Sri Lankan team bus was attacked by 12 gunmen prior to the third day’s play of the second Test at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. As many as six Lankan cricketers were wounded and a couple of civilians along with six Pakistani policemen also lost their lives.

International cricket was suspended following the incident and even after 10 long years, teams are still reluctant to travel to the war-stricken nation. The occurring remains equivalent to a horrific dream for many that include Ahsan Raza, the reserve umpire of that match, who managed to survive the attack. For the time being, he doesn’t want to recall the tragedy.

“My wounds have healed but whenever I look at them I remember the gruesome incident. Whenever someone mentions that incident I request him not to remind me of that tragedy,” Raza was quoted as saying to the media.

I was very emotional that day
After a six-year break, international cricket returned to Pakistan in 2015 when Zimbabwe toured the nation for a limited-overs series. However, the biggest development came to the fore when Sri Lanka went to Pakistan for a one-off T20I in Lahore in October 2017.

Raza officiated in that game as well. He went down the memory lane and also sounded confident about more foreign teams coming to Pakistan. “I was very emotional that day. To their credit PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has taken gradual steps and I am 100 percent confident that more foreign teams will come in the near future,” he remarked.

Ever since the attack, Pakistan play its home matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Even the Pakistan Super League (PSL) mostly takes place in the UAE, albeit the tournament authorities are steadfastly bringing the tournament back to Pakistan.

Ahsan Raza to complete his T20I umpiring career’s half-century

Lahore, 26 January 2020:

The third and final T20I between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Gaddafi Stadium on Monday will mark history with Ahsan Raza becoming the only umpire to officiate in 50 T20Is.

Ahsan is amongst International Panel of ICC Umpires and over the years has become one of the most recognised faces in international cricket.

Ahsan, a former first-class cricketer, began his international umpiring career in February 2010 by standing in an ODI between Afghanistan and Canada at Sharjah Cricket Ground.

Later that year in October, he officiated his first T20I match when Pakistan played South Africa at Abu Dhabi. Overall, the 45-year-old has stood in 85 international matches and he will be seen in action in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia next month.

Ahsan Raza said: “You want to excel in whatever you do. I am about to become the first umpire to stand in 50 T20Is, which is an honour for me and my country.

“I am very excited as I am completing this milestone in my hometown and at the home of Pakistan cricket.

“T20 format might come across as a short one to the viewers, but it has its own challenges for the umpires. There’s a lot of pressure while officiating T20 matches as anything can happen anytime. You have to be more active in this format because of the innovative strokes like reverse-sweep and paddle-sweep.”

The Pakistani umpires continue to excel, a testimony of which is the fact that three of the five umpires with most T20Is are from Pakistan.

Aleem Dar, the celebrated umpire who is part of Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, is behind Ahsan with 46 T20Is, while Shozab Raza, who is in International Panel of ICC Umpires, has officiated 36 matches and is fifth on the list.

So many of the elite umpires these days are making huge mistakes these days, I haven't seen Ahsan Raza make one.

Congratulations to him.

He has quietly done very well in the past couple of years, hope to see him in more ICC tournaments in the future.

Ahsan Raza made some poor decisions today in the final of the Tri-Nation ODI Series between Pakistan and New Zealand—anyone else notice?

He is among the elite panel. He must be doing something right overall. Having a bad tour does not mean you are biased or you are the worst umpire. Yeah he was not on top in this series but he is not that bad

Seriously starting to doubt the integrity of this guy.

He gave an extremely dodgy decision against Will Young in the tri series final to give Pakistan a chance….

Today he gave an absolute plumb lbw decision in favour of the Peshawar captain. That was 100% more plumb than the decision he gave to Will Young! What’s the point of being an umpire if you are only there to please Pakistan’s big names???
