Aitchison College Principal Michael Thompson resigns over 'political interference'
Thompson says there is no place for politics and recommendations in schools

Principle Aitchison College Michael Thompson has resigned from his post due to political interference in his official work.

Federal Minister Ahad Cheema's family requested not to charge fees during the holidays due to shifting to Islamabad, Principal Aitchison College Michael Thomson rejected the request for a fee waiver, but the Governor House Secretariat by using their powers issued a notification to waive the fee.

The Principal of Aitchison College has announced to leave Pakistan in protest.

Micheal Thompson said in a letter, that there is no place for politics and recommendations in schools, the powers are misused to benefit a few people.

According to Michael, the decisions of the Governor's House created a problem in the administrative affairs, and in the famous and prestigious school of Pakistan he could not think of unnecessary interference, he said he would leave the post from 1st April and would remain away from the administrative affairs.

Punjab Governor stance

Punjab Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman exclusive conversation with SAMAA TV on Aitchison College fee waiver of Federal Minister Ahad Cheema’s children has brought to the fore the issue of fee waiver in Aitchison in a different manner.

Baligh-ur-Rehman said while talking to SAMAA that the fee waiver of Ahad Cheema’s children was waived for not studying at Aitchison College.

Ahad Cheema and his wife shifted to Islamabad, the children had discontinued their education in Aitchison.

They waived the fee notice they received despite their children not studying at Aitchison College and shifting to Islamabad.

The Governor is making a law not to charge fees after any student leaves school.

WHAT A LEVEL: Two kids of Ahad Cheema have been granted full waiver for 3 years from fees of Aitchison College on the request of their mother. Are these guys poor or paupers?? But N-Leeg does not let any opportunity to make even a small bit of money go by !!

Aitchison College is known for its political influence, as it primarily caters to the children of affluent politicians, businessmen, and bureaucrats.

This is how they always operate. They threaten and bully people and laws for other people to follow.

All these politicians must make good enough government schools and colleges for their students to study there.
 
I didnt see such posts when PTI's favourite pmlq backed kahsmala tariq also tried to pull off something similar of sorts for her son (who also murdered a person in Islamabad and got away with it)

Well you should have made them. But if you are talking about the accident and you probably are then I am sure it was all over social media at the time.

so its ok if it happens if no one talks about it?

it was all over hte news when kashmala was wanting her son be allwoed back in the college. And when her son killed a person in Islamabad, again her son got away with it.

All happened under Immys govt.
 
Political interference has been a reality in Pakistan. No wonder the GORA principal thought he should resign instead of being a puppet of a political personnel.

It's not OK and never will be. But what's interesting is that you expect to be trusted but no one does. As the PML Q are now your partners maybe you can get her to become a witness against IK( for protecting her) and start case number 2010.
We accused Naqvi of being a murderer and being corrupt( btw what is corruption) but you said only the PTI were against him but Javed Latif accused him yesterday of the mayhem on 9th May. Any comment. Thought not

Parents of Aitchison College students express solidarity with principal​

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Parents of some Aitchison College students on Tuesday took to the street to express solidarity with the institute’s principal who resigned a day earlier (Monday).

Michael A Thompson tendered his resignation on Monday, citing nepotism and political interference as the reasons behind his decision.

Several parents gathered outside the Governor House and raised slogans demanding restoration of the principal of Lahore’s premier institution.

They also sought an impartial inquiry and reversal of, what they said, illegal measures of Governor Balighur Rehman.

A police contingent dashed to the Governor House to prevent violent backlash.

Aitchison College gets new principal

The approval of appointing SM Turab Hussain was given in a meeting of the Board of Directors of Aitchison chaired by Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider.

The meeting was attended by Ali Ayaz Sadiq, Mustafa Ramday, Ali Pervez and Khawaja Hassan. The post of the principal was lying vacant after Michael Thompson resigned from his post.

The Aitchison College fee waiver controversy came into the spotlight in March, when Principal Michael Thompson resigned from his post over alleged political interference by Federal Minister Ahad Cheema’s family.

Michael Thompson stepped down from the post accusing the family of Federal Minister Ahad Cheema to force him to waive fees for the holidays.

The Aitchison College Principal maintained that he denied the request for a fee waiver, but the Governor House Secretariat used its authority to issue a notification waiving the fee.

Following Principal Thompson’s resignation, then-Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman said that an audit of the principal’s salary was initiated as he was receiving Rs4 million salary.

In a letter to Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman, Cheema refused to benefit from the policy, however, he said that Aitchison College Principal Michael Thompson had approached him personally regarding the matter.

The minister claimed that he was given several offers to sort out the matter regarding his sons’ fees, however, he declined to receive any “under-table deal.” Further, Cheema in his letter decried disrespect to his family in the whole fiasco.
