Not even in senior cricket i have ever seen a man of such nerves.

The way this guy batted. This is an u19 tournament. Teenagers often play aggressive shots, and this guy kept calm and batted it out.

WHat a batsmen he is. SUCH A MATURE BATSMEN

Umar Akmal can learn from this kid

That kind of application and understand the situation, ZERO Pakistani batsmen right now have it.

Not even Babar.

I looked at Rohail Nazir last week to see if he had it, he didn't.

In fact, no Pakistani batsmen do.

This guy was outstanding.

Captain cool! Even his celebration in the end was calm.

The opposite of Mushfiq.

Mushi is so dumb. This guy is cool headed. Nobody would have backed BD to win because till now all of them at every level would crumble under pressure.

But this guy is different. Remained calm. Mushfiq needs to learn a lot from him.

First time BD pulled off a win when it matters.

And he showed that team comes first and did this for country, and what reward he did get in the end.

Hopefully reaponsible people can take care of him and the team after this win back home.

Early fame and money can ruin anyone if they are not careful. They will be invited by every rich person in BD now.

He kept saying from the semis that cricket is just a game. Treats it as such.

3 times he showed how mature he is.

1. when he was waiting for Bishnoi to finish of his qouta
2. when he was waiting for tyagi to finish of his qouta. He didnt socre a run for 3 overs
3. when he knew indian bowlers will bowl wides and he waited for Bangaldesh to get ahead of DLS score and didnt take any risks

Emon batted well, but Emon played a very bad shot, but its understandable as its u19 circket. But this guy, Akbar ali... I am his fan now

Even I was getting frustrated when he was leaving the balls outside stump over after over but this kid kept calm and cool. What a knock!

Well put, Sabbir Rahman and Nasir Hossain are examples. Both are spoiled and morally corrupt :nasir

He's in the mold of Thala Dhoni. He's sure going to win more tournaments for his country!

This is hyping him. Yes, he played a very good innings and gave BD their first WC. As they don't have a WC so far he is most loved cricketer for them for some time to come. But time will tell if he can convert his U19 level into a very good international one or not.

Our Honorable Prime Minister will ruin these kids now, will be given cars, lands and flats. Everyone will become yo yo honey singh :faf

Keacy Carty played a similar innings in 2016 U19 WC final and where is he now? Stop overrating U19 performances.

if you had watched teh game you would had understood what happened.

The situation Bangaldesh got stuck in, they were not suppose to win this. I have seen many good establish players not able to play out the match as they get impatient. And this was an u19 kid. u19 players are known for being impatient, yet he stood there and didnt rush anything.

It is an achievment that needs to be admired

to be honest, they deserve it.

When was the last time Bangaldesh won any thing in sports? this is a very very very big achievement for them and should be celebrated.

Mental strength plays a huge part in player's progress and Akbar played like a champion today. With this quality, he will make good progress and who knows, might bea future BD senior team captain in 6-7 years.

The kid spoke very well after the match also.

Very impressed with him.

The sort of cricketer Bangladesh has lacked at the senior level.

The future looks bright for Bangladesh cricket. Most of these players seem destined to represent Bangladesh at the international level, beginning with their captain.

Not seen any cricket recently and I don't have sky and couldn't listen to the commentary but it sounds like akbar stayed with the team till the end
Lots of flash in the pans come and go and freeze in finals but well done to the lad

Watched the whole tournament & Akbar might not have been the stand out batsman but the calmness he showed in the final to win it was amazing, this could go a long way as far as Bangladesh cricket is concerned.

He is very disciplined and mature. This is what Bangladesh need at the next level. Mature presentation as well.

The kid comes from a good background, academically good and has been a fighter from U13 level. He is technically very good, and extremely intelligent, a sort of specialist for such tug wars. This is his second MoM against IND juniors and a 3rd one was missed by one run - he took BD from 75/6 to within 1 run of a win in Asia cup.

He used to bat in top 4 because of his batting, but for last couple of years, he has focused for keeping and dropped down to six. He will have a long career for BD, and should lead in future.

He has a pretty low batting avg in list a avg of 22. But he has shown he has the potential to be a top batsman.

He must let go of the gloves and focus on being a top order batter. He is definitely not the most skilled, but should not waste himself down at no. 6

He is a superb captain, field placements and bowling changes were spot on. And also did not fall under pressure. Most captains today are under immense stress and can't handle it, even kohli and Smith. If groomed properly, he has the potential to be a real world class captain like Williamson(want to reiterate im comparing captaincy, not batting)

As a batsman, he’ll be just another good one may be. As WK-batsman, he can be among best in world. His keeping is exceptionally good - today he took a leg side catch, look at his covering, gathering & how he landed from dive, and he is a better WK against spin than pace - outstanding prospect, already the best gloves man in country.

I don’t like WK as Captain, hence won’t suggest for that - he can be the go to guy for captain and still contribute with his suggestions.

His List A stats are poor because of debuting at the age of 16. His T20 stats are good, because it’s started counting from last year.

He was very patient and he kept his composure to steer BD home. He could have easily perished like the rest, so credit to him.

Akbar lost his sister two days before Bangladesh U-19’s group stage game against Pakistan, on January 24

Bangladesh U-19 cricket team captain Akbar Ali led from the front in the final of the U-19 World Cup against India at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom Sunday.

His unbeaten 43 guided his side to victory, and came at just the right time when the young Tigers were struggling after the fall of a couple of quick wickets.

The right-handed batsman was rightly lauded for his performance in the grand finale, but admiration for the Bangladesh U-19 captain doubled once the news of his sacrifice came to light on both social and mainstream media.

In a tragic turn of events during the global age-level tournament, Akbar lost his sister, who died while giving birth to twins.

Putting aside the sorrow of his sister’s death, the Bangladesh U-19 skipper focused on the task at hand – leading his country in the world event.

Akbar lost his sister two days before Bangladesh U-19’s group stage game against Pakistan, on January 24.

The tragic news was informed to the team management but upon request from his family, Akbar was kept in the dark over this so that he could concentrate on his game.

Akbar was informed following the Pakistan game and astonishingly, the cricketer chose to stay back in South Africa and lead from the front.

Member of the Bangladesh U-19 team, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury said the entire team broke down in sorrow after hearing the news but that it was Akbar who kept his emotions in check, and tried to keep the team together in that moment of adversity.

“Apu [Akbar’s sister] died two days before the Pakistan game. But his family had decided not to inform him that. He got a call following the game against Pakistan and the whole team broke down into tears,” said Mrittunjoy.

“All of us were upset when Akbar told us to not think about it and focus on the tournament ahead. He reminded us that we were there to win the World Cup,” Mrittunjoy added.

Mrittunjoy said Akbar by character is an introvert and doesn’t flash his emotions in public.

“He likes to hold onto his emotions. Doesn’t talk much and he had told us not to talk about it. It is a matter of pride to play under a captain like him,” said Mrittunjoy, who had to return home due to injury halfway through the tournament.

Giving these kids some financial help/stability will only aid in their future success. From what I have read, some of them are from poor family/villages. How is this a bad thing? Why so negative for?

Working hard and getting a reward in return equates to spoiled in your head? Would you rather they work hard and get no reward in return?

Thing is, when you're dirt poor sometimes the money can get into your head if you earn it too quickly. A poor villager can get complacent very easily with little money. Not everybody has the drive to do well as much as possible.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. What mental strength it must have taken to spring back up. Being a captain insnt easy, and bearing such a heavy heart doesnt make it any easier either.

This is a double edge sword really. Deserves reward for hardwork but your point is valid too, some gets too complecent
