Quebec City Police say several people are dead after shots were fired inside a Quebec City mosque on Sunday night during evening prayers.

Multiple people are also feared wounded. Their condition is not known at this time.

Quebec City Police Const. Étienne Doyon said mostly men were gathered inside the Islamic cultural centre of Quebec in the Sainte-Foy neighbourhood when the shooting began just before 8 p.m.

The president of the centre, Mohammed Yangui, said at least five people were killed, but that information has not been confirmed by police.

He added that he thought somewhere between 60 and 100 people were inside when the shooting began.

At the moment of the attack, the men where praying on the ground floor of the building, while women and children were upstairs.

Two suspects have been arrested, one of whom was apprehended after a chase that ended near l'île d'Orléans.

A large perimeter has been set up around the mosque.

Quebec City Police said they are working with the RCMP and the Quebec provincial police. At 10:40 p.m. police said the "situation is under control."

"The building is secure and the occupants evacuated. The investigation continue," wrote Quebec City Police on Twitter.

'A Quebecois accent'

A witness, who asked to remain anonymous, told CBC's French-language service Radio-Canada that two masked individuals entered the mosque.

"It seemed to me that they had a Quebecois accent. They started to fire, and as they shot they yelled, 'Allahu akbar!' The bullets hit people that were praying. People who were praying lost their lives. A bullet passed right over my head," said the witness.

"There were even kids. There was even a three-year-old who was with his father."

Quebec premier tweets in solidarity with victims

Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard said in a tweet that the province is mobilizing to assure the safety of Quebec City residents.

He added that "Quebec categorically rejects this barbaric violence" and offered solidarity with the families of victims and wounded.

Last June, during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, a pig's head was left on the doorstep of the mosque.

Montreal, Gatineau increase security

In the wake of the attack both Montreal and Gatineau, Que., said they will be increasing security and surveillance.

Gatineau Police said they will pay "particular attention to the surroundings of mosques."

Should be treated as terrorist attack.

Their president is welcoming Muslims. But some people may not be.

Scary stuff considering its not even a country ruled by Trump.

I live in a state that voted for Trump 60% to 34% over Clinton...I've decided to pack my bags as soon as I'm for a more civilized and intellectually functioning state.

Apparently the shooters yelled "Allahu Akbar" while shooting as per a witness inside the mosque. So the shooters might be ISIS related.

Canada got Prime Minister and he is from same province of Quebec (incident happened in the city of quebec )but from montreal.

As per reports, this is being treated as terrorist attack.

Only one witness said that and he also said that shooters had a strong Québecons accent.

Though above still need to be independently verified.

Only shooter was caught in mosque, other suspect was caught later.

Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un. Never good when any lives are lost.

Also seems like the attackers shouted Allahu Akbar afterwards...

Hope all the Canadian PP bros are doin alright, thoughts and prayers are with y'all. We just had a mosque razed to the ground in my state, not good times.

The myth got busted when 15 year old Noah Rabbani was beaten into a coma. Wanna know more about racist Canada? Look up Rebel media and Gavin McInnes on youtube.

It was not even a hate crime. Suspects are member of drug trafficking gang.

This is the same mosque where a pig head was found wrapped with a card saying bonne appetit

..and they say Canada is more tolerant. Shouting "Allahu Akber" doesn't prove a thing. Most non-Muslim's are so familiar with the phrase now that they use it as a means to blame Muslim's for such attacks. Anyone can shout "hallelujah", wouldn't mean they're Christian.

Apparently the shooters yelled "Allahu Akbar" while shooting as per a witness inside the mosque. So the shooters might be ISIS related.

Eyewitness testimony is often shockingly inaccurate. This could very much be a case of someone in the mosque shouting out Allah in some kind of prayer whilst another person, the attacker, shoots away. And the eyewitness puts 2+2 together and gets 5.

Canadian PM says mosque shooting a 'terrorist attack on Muslims'

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-canada-mosque-shooting-idUSKBN15E04S

Six people were killed and eight wounded when gunmen opened fire at a Quebec City mosque during Sunday night prayers, in what Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called a "terrorist attack on Muslims".

Police said two suspects had been arrested, but gave no details about them or what prompted the attack.

Initially, the mosque president said five people were killed and a witness said up to three gunmen had fired on about 40 people inside the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Centre. Police said only two people were involved in the attack.

"Six people are confirmed dead - they range in age from 35 to about 70," Quebec provincial police spokeswoman Christine Coulombe told reporters, adding eight people were wounded and 39 were unharmed.

The mosque's president, Mohamed Yangui, who was not inside when the shooting occurred, said he got frantic calls from people at evening prayers.

"Why is this happening here? This is barbaric,” he said.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement: "We condemn this terrorist attack on Muslims in a center of worship and refuge".

“Muslim-Canadians are an important part of our national fabric, and these senseless acts have no place in our communities, cities and country."

The shooting came on the weekend that Trudeau said Canada would welcome refugees, after U.S. President Donald Trump suspended the U.S. refugee program and temporarily barred citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States on national security grounds.

A Canadian federal Liberal legislator, Greg Fergus, tweeted: "This is an act of terrorism -- the result of years of sermonizing Muslims. Words matter and hateful speeches have consequences!"

The premier of Quebec province, Philippe Couillard, said security would be increased at mosques in Quebec City and Montreal.

"We are with you. You are home," Couillard said, directing his comments at the province's Muslim community. "You are welcome in your home. We are all Quebecers. We must continue together to build an open welcoming and peaceful society".

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said police were providing additional protection for mosques in that city following the Quebec shooting. "All New Yorkers should be vigilant. If you see something, say something," he tweeted.

French President Francois Hollande condemned the attack.

"The terrorists wanted to attack the spirit of peace and tolerance of the citizens of Quebec," Hollande said in a statement on Monday. "France stands shoulder to shoulder with the victims and their families".

Like France, Quebec has struggled at times to reconcile its secular identity with a rising Muslim population, many of them from North Africa.

In June last year, a pig’s head was left on the doorstep of the cultural center.

"We are not safe here," said Mohammed Oudghiri, who normally attends prayers at the mosque in the middle-class, residential area, but did not on Sunday.

Oudghiri said he had lived in Quebec for 42 years but was now "very worried" and thinking of moving back to Morocco.

Mass shootings are rare in Canada, which has stricter gun laws than the United States, and news of the shooting sent a shockwave through mosques and community centers throughout the mostly French-language province.

"It’s a sad day for all Quebecers and Canadians to see a terrorist attack happen in peaceful Quebec City,"
said Mohamed Yacoub, co-chairman of an Islamic community center in a Montreal suburb.

"I hope it’s an isolated incident."

Incidents of Islamophobia have increased in Quebec in recent years. The face-covering, or niqab, became a big issue in the 2015 Canadian federal election, especially in Quebec, where the majority of the population supported a ban on it at citizenship ceremonies.

In 2013, police investigated after a mosque in the Saguenay region of the province was splattered with what was believed to be pig blood. In the neighboring province of Ontario, a mosque was set on fire in 2015, a day after an attack by gunmen and suicide bombers in Paris.

Zebida Bendjeddou, who left the Quebec City mosque earlier on Sunday evening, said the center had received threats.

"In June, they'd put a pig's head in front of the mosque. But we thought: 'Oh, they're isolated events.' We didn't take it seriously. But tonight, those isolated events, they take on a different scope,"
she said.

Bendjeddou said she had not confirmed the names of those killed, but added: "They're people we know, for sure. People we knew since they were little kids."

Rip , atleast its being treated as a terrorist attack unlike other countries.

RIP.

Hope the Canadian ppers are safe.

Always got the feeling Canada is more tolerant towards minorities from Trudeau's speeches and from the ppers here. Gutted for the families who lost their loved ones.

I predicted this would happen yesterday after the Canadian minister welcoming immigrants speech. As I said in the other thread this will be seen as a massive vindication of Trump's policies.

Inna lillahi wa inallah-e-raji'oon - Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return.

May Allah grant them Jannat.

I am waiting for all the World Leaders to unite hand in hand and walk down some street in Canada to show solidarity. Right after hell freezes over.

Lets wait to find out who these guys were. Remember ISIS hates muslims (who dont agree with them) more than non-muslims.

Two suspects were under arrest after a shooting at a Quebec City mosque on Sunday evening killed six people and wounded eight, police said on Monday, and a source said one was French-Canadian and the other was of Moroccan heritage.

At least one of the suspects in the attack by two gunmen was a student at nearby Université Laval, the source said.

One suspect was identified as Alexandre Bissonnette, a French-Canadian, the other as Mohamed Khadir, who is of Moroccan heritage although his nationality was not immediately known, according to the source.

Police declined to give details of the suspects' identities or possible motives for the attack during evening prayers at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec.

“Legal procedures are now underway and we cannot make any comment on the identity of the suspects,” Royal Canadian Mounted Police national security superintendent Martin Plante told a news conference. He added the suspects, both men, were not previously known to police.

One suspect was arrested at the mosque, where police were called at about 8 p.m. local time, and the other turned himself about an hour later, Quebec City Police Inspector Denis Turcotte said.

Police said they were confident there were no other suspects involved in the attack.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau earlier called the shooting "a terrorist attack on Muslims."

The shooting came over the weekend that Trudeau said Canada would welcome refugees, after U.S. President Donald Trump halted the U.S. refugee program and temporarily barred citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States on national security grounds.

Trump's action was widely condemned in the United States and abroad as targeting Muslims.

Five people were critically injured in the mosque attack and remained in intensive care, three of them in life-threatening condition, a spokeswoman for the Quebec City University Hospital said on Monday.

Another 12 people were treated for minor injuries, she said.

A father of four, the owner of a halal butcher near the mosque, was among those killed, said Pamela Sakinah El-hayet, a friend of one of the people at the mosque.

The mosque concierge was killed, as was Ahmed Youness, a 21-year-old student, El-hayet told Reuters. One of El-hayet’s friends, Youness’ roommate, was in the mosque at the time of the shooting. He was unharmed, she said, but in total shock.

Ali Assafiri, a student at Université Laval, said he had been running late for the evening prayers at the mosque, near the university in the Quebec City area. When he arrived, the mosque had been transformed by police into a crime scene.

"Everyone was in shock," Assafiri said by phone. "It was chaos."

Université Laval is the oldest French-language university in North America, with 42,500 students.

There was an outpouring of support for the mosque on social media, and vigils were planned for Montreal and Quebec City, the provincial capital, as well as Edmonton later on Monday.

While the motive for the shooting was not known, incidents of Islamophobia have increased in Quebec in recent years. The face-covering, or niqab, became a big issue in the 2015 Canadian federal election, especially in Quebec, where the majority of the population supported a ban on it at citizenship ceremonies.

Pope Francis offered his condolences to Cardinal Gerald Cyprien LaCroix, Archbishop of Quebec, who was visiting Rome on Monday. Francis said he was praying for the victims of the attack.

"The pope underlined how important it is in these moments that everyone remains united in prayer, Christians and Muslims," the Vatican said in a statement.

it looks like the shooters are muslims: Alexandre Bissonnette and Mohamed Khadir.

It may have been photoshopped but if not it appears one of suspects was a fan of people like Le Pen and Trump.

what i am hearing is that Alexandre Bissonnette is a recent convert to Islam while the other guy Mohamed Khadir is a muslim of Morocco descent. Its possible that these guys might have been radicalized by ISIS (on internet), try to preach their ideology in mosque, was rebuffed by muslims in mosques and so considered the muslims of mosque as hypocrite and try to kill them all.

Quebec is pretty unique province. They speak French and were oppressed by the English for a long time. French patriotism is pretty big in Quebec to the point where they had a referendum in 1995 to split from Canada and lost by less than 60,000 votes or 49.5% to 50.50%. When you go out of Montreal, it can get pretty intimidating even for a White, English speaking Canadian. If you are not at least 50% English, your kids must attend French schools. They operate with certain laws that are different from rest of Canada. Canada is not all Lovy Dovy as it sounds. If I drive 1 hr north of here in to the country side or towards the South, i'll feel unfamiliar. Most to do with those people not having any interaction with immigrants and Muslim especially. Romali Rotti lived a little further away from Toronto, a during the 80s and he found it more racist than Australia. Muslims(Pakistanis especially) tend to move to areas where there are lot of White people and this doesn't help unlike Indians who move where there are more Indians.

Listening on BBC, I was shocked to hear that there is a lot of Anti Muslim feeling in Quebec (maybe not the issue in this case)

Not just in Quebec, even in Suburbs of Toronto it exists. In my Uni I've heard several stories of students feeling the heat in their suburbs. Most has to do with perpetrators not having any interaction with Muslims. I knew a Pakistani international student in high school who moved to a public school from private after feeling omitted by other kids. This has nothing to do with race at all.

RIP.

Peaceful land of the Canadians where racism and hate crime doesn't exist.

Sympathy goes out to the family members and the community there.

Even the Canadian PM has labelled this as a terrorist attack, media such as the BBC are making excuses to suggest otherwise.

Another lone wolf who had mental issues will be forgotton very quickly.

Suspect in Quebec Mosque Attack Quickly Depicted as a Moroccan Muslim. He’s a White Nationalist.

A MASS SHOOTING at a Quebec City mosque last night left six people dead and eight wounded. The targeted mosque, the Cultural Islamic Center of Quebec, was the same one at which a severed pig’s head was left during Ramadan last June. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the episode a “terrorist attack on Muslims.”

Almost immediately, various news outlets and political figures depicted the shooter as Muslim. Right-wing nationalist tabloids in the UK instantly linked it to Islamic violence. Fox News claimed that “witnesses said at least one gunman shouted ‘Allahu akbar!’,” and then added this about the shooter’s national origin:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Suspect in Quebec mosque terror attack was of Moroccan origin, reports show <a href="https://t.co/oRzxGHEXDm">https://t.co/oRzxGHEXDm</a> <a href="https://t.co/aEsEtccMvi">pic.twitter.com/aEsEtccMvi</a></p>— Fox News (@FoxNews) <a href="https://twitter.com/FoxNews/status/826120752529301504">January 30, 2017</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer exploited the attack to justify President Trump’s ban on immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries. “It’s a terrible reminder of why we must remain vigilant and why the President is taking steps to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to our nation’s safety and security,” Spicer said at this afternoon’s briefing when speaking of the Quebec City attack.

But these assertions are utterly false. The suspect is neither Moroccan nor Muslim. The Moroccan individual, Mohamed el Khadir, was actually one of the worshippers at the mosque and called 911 to summon the police, and played no role whatsoever in the shooting.

The actual shooting suspect is 27-year-old Alexandre Bissonnette, a white French Canadian who is, by all appearances, a rabid anti-immigrant nationalist. A leader of a local immigration rights groups, François Deschamps, told a local paper he recognized his photo as an anti-immigrant far-right “troll” who has been hostile to the group online. And Bisonnette’s Facebook page – now taken down but still archived – lists among its “likes” the far right French nationalist Marine Le Pen, Islam critics Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the Israeli Defense Forces, and Donald J. Trump (he also “likes” the liberal Canadian Party NDP along with more neutral “likes” such as Tom Hanks, the Sopranos and Katy Perry).

It is usually the case that there is significant confusion in the wake of attacks of this sort. And local police did apparently arrest two suspects at first: both Bissonnette along with el Khadir. And until the investigation is complete, one cannot know for certain what the motives here were. One should be careful about trying to infer too much from a hodgepodge of Facebook “likes” and, this early, even anecdotal claims about his political views. As for reports that someone yelled “Allahu akbar,” it is perfectly natural that someone in a mosque would say that upon seeing a homicidal killer randomly shooting people, or it’s possible that the shooter said it mockingly.

But this is exactly why no responsible news organization, let alone the White House, should rush to depict the shooter as Muslim and of Moroccan descent when so little is known about what happened. Yet not only did Fox and the Trump White House do exactly that, but worse, neither has retracted or corrected their claims long after it became clear that it was false:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Hour & a half after tweeting out false info on <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/QuebecMosqueAttack?src=hash">#QuebecMosqueAttack</a> Fox News has still not corrected or retracted. <a href="https://twitter.com/ggreenwald">@ggreenwald</a> <a href="https://t.co/IppNZrXxHH">https://t.co/IppNZrXxHH</a></p>— Derrick O'Keefe (@derrickokeefe) <a href="https://twitter.com/derrickokeefe/status/826141114931425280">January 30, 2017</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

The inflammatory effect of this sort of reckless, biased “reporting” is as predictable as it is toxic. All day long, people around the world cited these reports to justify Trump’s ban as well as their own ugly views of Muslims:

geller1-1485805046-640x312.png

geller2-1485805077.png

The only part of any of this that’s true is that it was an act of terrorism: terrorism aimed, yet again, at Muslims by someone who has apparently been indoctrinated with a great deal of hate toward them. Media outlets and the White House led people all over the world today to believe exactly the opposite.

https://theintercept.com/2017/01/30...as-a-moroccan-muslim-hes-a-white-nationalist/

^^ The Daily Mail also shamelessly tried to muddy the waters by saying this was an attack perpetrated by a Muslim.

Now that it is confirmed it was a terror attack on Muslims by a white right wing nutter they are hardly mentioning it and also not allowing any comments. Pathetic.

Mr. Bissonnette’s online profile and school friendships revealed little interest in extremist politics until last March when French nationalist leader Marine Le Pen visited Quebec City and inspired Mr. Bissonnette to vocal extreme online activism, according to people who clashed with him.

Not sure but have seen stuff about him being a fan of Dawkins and Hitchens on Facebook, which suggests otherwise.

No it was no Muslim convert.

Some white facist type who was probably a Trump lover.

Even Trumps spokesman initially got excited by this attack to justify his ridiculous ban but I'm sure they won't mention it now as it serves no purpose for their agenda.

Well this should sound warning bells, and a wake-up call to deluded Canadians who think this country is immune to facist, racist filth who would have the guts to carry out such an attack. Also, not surprised this happened in Quebec.

Quebec is a french speaking province, and population of Quebec are emotionally tied to France.
So after any incident in France, we observe a wave of anti-islam sentiments in Quebec.

Québec is also backward looking province and montreal is the worst city in canada among 13 big cities...

5% of the total population in greater Montreal area is muslim, mainly arrived from French speaking african countries, morocco, Tunisia, etc.

Canada is the best country in the world in this aspect. However, it is not perfect.

Mosque shooting victims: Six men who sought better lives in Quebec

On the last day of his life, Azzeddine Soufiane closed up his grocery shop on Ste.-Foy Road as usual and drove two minutes down the street to his city mosque. He knew the way well. He made the trip at least once a day so he could attend prayer services.

Last Sunday was the final ride. During the evening prayer, Mr. Soufiane, a big-hearted man known to dispense advice on halal meats as readily as tips to newcomers on affordable housing, was gunned down inside the one place he would have thought of as a sanctuary.

He was one of six Muslim worshipers killed in cold blood, an act of terrorism that left a country in shock and countless families and friends in Quebec City grief-stricken.

Azzeddine Soufiane, 57

At Mr. Soufiane’s modest apartment on Monday, mourners poured through the door to share their sorrow, their sobs mixing with a shattered sense of safety in their adopted land.

“The only thing we wished for was to live in peace,” Mr. Soufiane’s widow, Najat Naanaa, said in the home in the suburb of Ste. Foy, where a table was set with pastries and cups of Tim Hortons coffee. She described her 57-year-old husband as her spouse, her friend, as “everything to me.”

“We chose this country so we could live peacefully,” she said. “But that’s not what happened.”

The Sunday attack left six victims, connected by their faith. They were parents, civil servants, academics – six men who had left their countries of origin seeking a better life in the usually sedate suburbs of Quebec City. Most of them had young children.

In some ways, Mr. Soufiane’s trajectory mirrored that of the wider Muslim community, which chose Quebec City to seek out tranquillity and opportunity. He came to the provincial capital in the late 1980s from Morocco and studied geology at Laval University. He eventually opened the area’s first halal grocery, Boucherie Assalam, which became a way station for Muslim newcomers seeking to find their footing in a new land.

“He was almost like the president of the community. He helped and guided all the people who arrived here – students, families,” said Nouzha Enkila, head of a Moroccan community group called La Voix des Marocains du Canada.

Mr. Soufiane’s business grew alongside the number of the city’s Muslims. The Muslim Students Association was founded by four students at Laval University in the early 1970s, and the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec, where Sunday’s shooting took place, opened in 1985 and moved its current, larger quarters in 2009. The community has expanded to 6,760 people, according to the 2011 National Household Survey.

Abdelkrim Hassane, 41

Other families were also left stricken by Sunday’s assault. Abdelkrim Hassane, 41, had two young children who waited in vain for their father to return home, a co-worker said.

Mr. Hassane was a civil servant, working as an analyst-programmer for the Quebec government after a stint in IT for the provincial police.

His co-worker, Abderrezak Redouane, said he had gone to the morgue to identify him on Sunday night.

He said that by midnight, Mr. Hassane’s wife had called him, asking about her husband’s whereabouts.

Mr. Redouane said he didn’t have the heart to tell her that Mr. Hassane was dead, so he told her to come to the hospital to inquire herself.

When she arrived, she told Mr. Redouane that their children didn’t want to go to bed because they wanted to see their father come home from the mosque.

Friends gave conflicting accounts of how many children Mr. Hassane had. He was a father of at least two young children, one an infant born a few months ago. He had just returned to work from a three-month parental leave, his office colleague said.

“He was a very peaceful, sensitive man,” Mr. Redouane said.

Born in Algeria, Mr. Hassane had studied computer engineering at the University of Science and Technology – Houari Boumediene, near Algiers.

Mr. Redouane said his colleague had worked in Paris, then in Montreal, for the Sûreté du Québec provincial police force, before deciding to settle in Quebec City.

Mamadou Tanou Barry, 42, and Ibrahima Barry, 39

Mamadou Tanou Barry, 42, and Ibrahima Barry, 39, were inseparable. The civil servants lived on different floors of the same apartment building on La Pérade street in Ste.-Foy, a friend said.

The two men were both from the Republic of Guinea, in West Africa. Despite having the same surname, they were not related but “they were always together,” said the friend, Moussa Sangaré.

On Sunday evening, Mr. Sangaré said he and the two civil servants were visiting a friend who had recently lost his father. They comforted him, then Mamadou Tanou Barry and Ibrahima Barry left for the mosque and never came back.

Both came from large families that are now reeling from their losses, Mr. Sangaré said.

Ibrahima Barry worked for the province’s health-insurance board. He had four children, the eldest a 12-year-old, and his wife is in poor health, Mr. Sangaré said.

Mamadou Tanou Barry, who was known to his friends as Tanou, worked in IT. He had two boys aged 2 and 4.

Mr. Sangaré said Tanou’s father had died a few years ago so, as the eldest son, he was sending money home to help his extended family. Just a month ago, his mother had arrived in Quebec City to live with her son.

Khaled Belkacemi, 60

Laval University confirmed that one of its professors, Khaled Belkacemi, was also among the victims.

After graduating from Polytechnic School of Algiers in 1983, Mr. Belkacemi obtained his master’s degree and doctorate in chemical engineering from the Université de Sherbrooke.

Both he and his wife, Safia Hamoudi, were professors in agri-food engineering.

Among his research projects, Dr. Belkacemi had worked on finding healthier alternatives to spices used to cure cold cuts.

Boubaker Thabti, 44

Boubaker Thabti only lived five minutes from the mosque. His friends knew that he didn’t work on Sunday nights, so when they couldn’t reach him after the shooting started, they feared the worse.

Several men stood outside the mosque on Sunday night, hoping to get news from him, but they saw his wife leaving in sobs.

One of the friends, Ghazi Hamrouni, said Mr. Thabti worked in a pharmacy and had two young children, a three-year-old and another who was about 10 years old, friends said.

Another friend, Abder Dhakkar, recalled that when he moved to Quebec a year and a half ago from Montreal, Mr. Thabti was one of the first people he met. “He’s so kind; everyone loves him – everyone.”

On Monday, Mr. Soufiane’s grocery was dark, its containers of olives and packages of pita bread sitting on the shelves. Someone left a bouquet of flowers at the door. There was a tragic feel to his death. When the mosque moved into its current location seven years ago, he responded to some anti-Muslim messages by becoming a voice for peace.

“I’ve been in Quebec City for 20 years and never had a problem,” he said in an interview with Le Soleil. “We live in peace and we want it to continue that way.” The wish was shattered this week.

The perpetrator's faith has not been disclosed neither is it being questioned here because he was a non-Muslim responsible for attacking and killing Muslim people. Had it been the other way round the media would be going berserk over "Islamic terrorism". This hypocrisy and double standards are going to get out of hand soon resulting in a massive war with some very enraged people and countries involved. When non-Muslim's are the perpetrators the media just calls it "terrorism" or "a lone gunman".

Cant waitto hear as to why?? What motivated him to kill so many innocents, its a first world country with welfare and free education .

There are so many posters here from Canada who probably visit the mosque often, this is terrible that there will be fear in the mind of family and friends.

The PM of Canada called it so - end of.

So far he's been charged for 11 things: 6 counts of first degree murder and five counts of attempted murder. No charges of terrorism.

Last night's gathering in Montreal (it was around minus 12 C, feels like minus 20 C yesterday in Montreal):

No 'terrorism' charges for Quebec mosque attack suspect

Quebec: Alexandre Bissonnette charged with six murders

Bissonnette faces six counts of first-degree murder and five of attempted murder, but has not been charged with any terrorism-related offences, despite Sunday's attack being widely condemned, including by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as a "terrorist act" against Muslims.

When asked on Tuesday why Bissonnette was not facing terrorism-related charges, Thomas Jacques, a representative of the prosecutor's office, replied: "The charges laid correspond to the evidence available," said.

Incredible. Maybe white supremacist establishment suffering cognitive dissonance?

Call it what it is White Nationalist terrorism. Encouraged and fostered by Establishment hate preachers like Trump and Farage.

Title of the Thread modified too soon.

Canadian justice system is responsible and it would take some time before terrorism charges to be added.

Investigation is still going on.

Are you suggesting that if the gunman knew the difference he should be free to attack a Masjid but not a temple or Gurdwara? People like you are the world's problem.

What can I understand from his post is that JaDed wants right wing nutcases to know the difference between mosques and temples Gurdwaras and the difference between brown muslim people and brown non-muslim people.

No discrimination is a worrisome thing and its not about differentiation,as discrimination is against "others",so stop twisting words.

It can not be terrorism when the victim is Muslim.

BUT vice versa it will always be concluded as terrorsim.

The word terror is reserved for attackers with Muslim names and the media has done a good job of this.

The accused will get a life sentence regardless.

People are being emotional here. The charges are created with the premise of proving them in court. The prosecution only makes things harder for itself with the addition of terrorism charges.

Why do that when you can get the same verdict with murder charges?

Labeling him as a "terrorist" (which he is) requires tangible evidence beyond the act itself. The RCMP has to work along those guidelines.

Media + Canadian politicians (Trudeau/Goodale) have been adamant it was terrorism. Everyone knows what it was but the RCMP can't take that approach until further proof comes to fruition.

These vigilante group have a large presence in Quebec city where this happened.

^ dont understand where this allegation of "forced submission" comes from? If there was "forced submission" then India would be a muslim majority today.

That is what I was saying. When Muslims kill it is terrorism but when they are the victims it is not! These double standards only put more petrol on an already out of control fire. This is playing in to the hands of Daeesh who see such things as an open recruitment day! If you are not going to prefix names of other religions with the word terrorism then don't do so Islam or Muslims either. Why is Hindu soldiers having killed and blinded so many Muslim's in IoK not Hindu terrorism? Why is the west having killed million's of Afghans and Iraqis not Christian terrorism? Only justice will end terrorism.

It is too hard to prove ?

Don’t think that is the case when it is the other way around ?

You seem to be confused with your own argument, the sentence he might receive is just not relevant .

Why? Why does JaDed want right wing nutcases, who might wish to murder innocents, to know the difference between brown muslim people and brown non-muslim people? Is it so that the right wing nutcases could ensure that they were murdering the "right" type of brown people?
