Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez says he has reached a level where he can compete with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sanchez joined Arsenal in 2014 from Barcelona, where he played alongside five-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi in attack, and has since scored 30 goals in 68 Premier League appearances for the Gunners.

Ronaldo, who has won two Champions League titles in the last three years with Real Madrid, captained Portugal to Euro 2016 success this summer and scored 54 goals in all competitions last season. However, Sanchez believes he has now got to a point where there is no one superior to him in football.

"I have reached a level where I can compete with great players," Sanchez told Sport. "I do not feel inferior to anybody. I liken [my qualities] to Messi and Ronaldo. I have the same abilities as them."

Arsenal have won just one of their opening three Premier League fixtures this season, with Sanchez opening his account for the campaign in the 3-1 victory at Watford last time out.

Manager Arsene Wenger recently insisted he is not worried despite Sanchez not yet signing a new deal at the Emirates. The Chile international has less than two years remaining on his current contract.

Arsenal will host Southampton as they return to Premier League action this weekend following the international break, with Transfer Deadline Day signings Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez having bolstered Wenger's squad for the campaign.

His skill level might be around the same level, but their performances are miles ahead of his.

Love this player - just gives so much energy to Arsenal - the day he leaves the Gunners will be a big disaster for the club. Worth his weight in gold

Admirable self-belief.

Need Asad Shafiq to have the same approach with regards to the standards he sets himself as a batsman.

It's not always possible to achieve the level you're striving for, but the best approach is to aim as high as possible.

He is no way near the likes of Messi or Ronaldo. Even Suarez is way ahead off him as is Coutinho.

I feel Suarez has been even more impressive than Messi and Ronaldo this past season. He's definitely one of the best in the world.

I am serious. I once wanted Sanchez at L'pool but now feel didn't miss out on much.

you honestly mean to imply that Sanchez would not get into liverpool's team?

If anything he is the ideal Klopp Player, technically good, insane work rate, and killer mentality

I like coutinho, but your statement on sanchez is actually true for us when it comes to coutinho. Unless he players on the wing, couthino would not get into a full strength arsenal midfield

If given the choice I would honestly prefer Coutinho in my side right now. This is not to say that Coutinho or Sanchez can not play for the other as it depends on tactics and format. I don't know much about the current Arsenal side so can't say who plays where. At this moment I consider Aguero as the only out and out world class player in the EPL.

Alexis has reached the level of Messi ...

in terms of height only :P

Alan Shearer agrees with you. :bm

Arsene Wenger has warned Chile they are in danger of making a “suicidal decision” which could rule Alexis Sanchez out for THREE MONTHS.

Wenger has revealed that he has been told that Sanchez has suffered a hamstring injury rather than a calf problem while away on international duty.

Arsenal boss Wenger is now ready to go to war with the Chilean FA to stop them from taking any chances on Sanchez by playing him and making the injury worse.

Sanchez is out of Chile’s game with Colombia but rather than send him home they have kept him in Santiago for treatment in the hope he may be fit to face Uruguay on Tuesday.

Looks like Chile may be willing to risk his fitness against Uruguay despite his recent niggle.

Wenger is understandably furious, as losing Alexis to injury would be a massive blow to Arsenal's hopes of continuing their strong start to the EPL.
