With the T20 WC in full swing, I thought of doing a thought experiment of creating an all time T20 XI of players who never played the game but had the capacity to be great. Here's my XI

1. Saeed Anwar (Pakistan)
2. Gordon Greenidge (West Indies)
3. Viv Richards (West Indies, Captain)
4. Brian Lara (West Indies)
5. Aravinda de Silva (Sri Lanka)
6. Garfield Sobers (West Indies)
7.Imran Khan (Pakistan)
8. Romesh Kaluwitharana (Sri Lanka, wicketkeeper)
9. Wasim Akram (Pakistan)
10. Malcolm Marshall (West Indies)
11. Abdul Qadir (Pakistan)

Was struggling between Clive Lloyd and Arvinda but I just feel Arvinda would have been a great T20 player. Specially in Asia. Also really wanted to add Saqlain but apparently he's played T20s for Surrey towards the end so didn't qualify.

Coincidentally, it only features West Indians, Sri Lankans and Pakistanis, which means there certainly could be other amazing XIs that would be competitive in a modern T20 WC. But this team could give any xi a run for their money. Could anyone creat a better ex xi to beat this? I'd like to see that team.

Lara, Wasim and Kaluwitharana did play a handful of T20 matches.

Hadlee, Botham and Kapil would certainly start. Garner has a strong claim to be the best odi bowler. He will get in too. Martin Crowe would be another one. Clive Rice..

1. Mark Waugh
2. Desmond Haynes
3. Dean Jones
4. Hansie Cronje
5. Clive Lloyd
6. Clive Rice
7. Kapil Dev
8. Richard Hadlee
9. Adam Parore (Wicket- Keeper)
10. Joel Garner
11. Curtly Ambrose

Interesting idea for a thread. Probably gonna copy most of your team.

1. Saeed Anwar
2. Desmond Haynes
3. Viv Richards
4. Brian Lara
5. Garfield Sobers
6. Imran Khan (c)
7. Kapil Dev
8. Moin Khan (wk)
9. Wasim Akram
10. Joel Garner
11. Abdul Qadir

I believe Wasim played the first televised t20.

A great thread though. Im struggling to name an XI. But I reckon it would be built around Imran Khan and Kapil Dev.

Why Adam Parore -He was a good player but never struck me an anything extra special?

Out of the wicketkeepers from that era (barring Gilchrist + Boucher) Moin Khan is the only one who stands out, who could come in and score some quick runs at the backend and bat with the tail.

There are of course some other interesting names that could be considered.

Barry Richards was said to be a great aggressive opener. Don Bradman once scored 300 in a day without needing a single six so he certainly knew how to find the fence. Could Alec Stewart or Andy Flower be keeper bats? Mike proctor was an extremely agressive batsman and an elite bowler with 48 FC hundreds and 1400 FC wickets!

Interesting Pakistani options include Wasim Raja who had a lot of flair, Majid Khan and Zaheer Abbas who were class acts. Maybe Mushi and Waqar would have made a career out of it too.
